The only thing is in regards the birth time bomb etc. With all the Ukrainian children they have stolen if not given back to Ukraine will end up living in Russia and probably having kids there so there might not be a massive birth defect then.

No but no world leader likes a stalemate war either - by it’s very nature it becomes a back page news story and public interest and support wanes-you’re the naive one if you think countries can sustain 100s millions and billions of euro support to Ukraine indefinitely without their voters asking questions

What's huge about Russia possibly occupying a town that's been largely destroyed? So far no-one has even been able to spell the name right. Pre-war Avdiivka was the 131st largest city in Ukraine (obviously now the population has mostly fled).

So the best thing that Ukraine could hope for right now is that the war becomes back page news in the US. At the moment, the big hold up is that some Republicans can use the support of Ukraine to attack the Democrats. If the public loses interest in the Ukraine war, the Republicans will move on to some other issue. If that happens, then the Democrats can provide as much support to Ukraine as they like and no one will criticise them for it.

The voters dont ask questions about things that arent on their mind. Just think of all the money the US spent on iraq and afghanistan which were at best a bi weekly or monthly news story from 2005 onwards

Who said countries have to? Unfortunately (fortunately?) the west follow a lot of legal process. Part of that is releasing frozen oligarch assets to support Ukraine, this has already begun. It will get to a point where Russia is funding Ukraine in it's fight against Russia.

Ukraine already have venture capital pledges, with the support of Blackrock etc... to rebuild and recover, along with EU funding, separate to weapons (which Hungary have no reason to veto on, like they do with the weapons bills) so that's that element covered.

You have a very short sighted naive view of this whole situation other than "blahhh I turned on Sky news and Ukraine isn't on it, Russia won!!!"

They've been on there already and got blasted back off it by artillery. Hopefully the same has happened this time. All I see is a lowly flag up there and no sign of any infantry or vehicles.

I suppose avdiivka is important as it's on the doorstep to delonetsk city and allows Ukraine to launch strikes there and it's also held since 2014 despite Russia's best efforts.

The war in UKr reminds me of the WC similar final between South Africa and England. England were clearly on top through MOST. Of the game. Most of the game was played in the SA half. Any time SA got into the Eng half SA hardly ever got past the 20 yard line and it never looked like scoring. Eng won most of the battles - in line outs , scrums , at breakdowns, etc,

BUT all changed late in the game when SA brought on THE BIG GUNS , upped the tempo by a gear and went into the lead - FOR THE FIRST TIME - with 🏈two and a half minutes to go. SA must have had a strategy of never letting Eng get too far ahead and having the confidence and knowledge that it can pull away in the end.

Ukr is holding its ground and not letting Ru get too far ahead and it has the enemy and its capability well sized up, . It is hammering away at Russias core’ assets’ re personnel arnaments, equipment , communication / supply and service routes- thus seriously weakening Ru capability and then ‘ pounce ‘ with the proverbial @TWO AND A HALF MINUTES to go

Russias been handed it's worst defeat maybe in the whole war, rolling up into battle in 1930s trucks, atacms picking off bases etc. at will and posters rush in to say oh it's probably time the Ukrainians start taking about peace or oh people aren't interested in this war anymore. Jesus can ye not see how pathetic that sounds.

Might want to look closer at this russian offensive as its about to get flanked and crushed near donetsk airport.

And they haven't even captured it. It's just contested. It is a bit worrying that the Russians seem to think they can afford to throw away thousands of men, hundreds of tanks and armored vehicles for a small town. Smaller than Bakhmut. Maybe they can afford to? I don't think anyone knows.

Had to laugh at the news cycle comment though. Biden about to push through a 60 billion package for Ukraine shortly. But oh no "lads did anyone catch the rugby at the weekend?". This just in: Ukraine left wanting for 155mm artillery shells as Russia pushes on Avdivka after news of Sexton retirement shocks fans. 😅

It takes away a staging post for attacks on the airport, the city and the high ground to the North east... it has road and rail links for logistics, and it's pretty much flat land, very hard to defend for miles and miles after that...

Bar the ridge that runs north of Donetsk to the Russian boarder, East Ukraine is very very flat. That can be a good and bad thing

Russia's blanket interference in media and politics at large should be a bigger deal than it is. I would have expected a lot more to be made of it by governments because it's creating division and a swing to the extremist right wing groups and personalities that are just Putin puppets.

So further reports suggest Russia bombed the hill very hard forcing the Ukrainians to evacuate their tunnel trenches. They were too slow and suffered some losses.

Russian soldiers while they have placed their flag which has now been destroyed on top didn't take up positions as the previous Ukrainian positions were either too damaged or destroyed making this a no man's land rather then a stronghold for Russia to launch further attacks.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out as Russian attacks have reduced dramatically the past 2 days while they regroup. Fingers crossed for a positive next few weeks.
