    Torrential rain, west Dublin

Gfs picking up some potentially heavy ppn again overnight right over Cork. Noteworthy because everything that falls right now will flow off a saturated ground!

Re the fiasco on orange/red alerts my opinion is its very hard to call it correctly at times but there's been a notable change of mindset since Eyelyn retired.

The sun has just come out for the first time since Tuesday. We had fairly heavy rain from Midday till about 10 minutes ago. The lawn is now waterlogged in parts. I probably won't be able to give it another cut now even if I wanted to.

We had a lovely warm few hours in the early afternoon with plenty of sunshine after an overnight deluge but now the rain is back. Garden and roads are saturated.

Felt very warm in Tralee today, bloody storage heaters in work, sweltering with every window open, what a waste of energy. Certainly felt every bit of 18C in calm airs.

Not as warm tomorrow getting up to highs of around 15C and cooler Saturday and Sunday.

Absolutely lashing down here in Arklow

A right shower train feeding up from Pembrokeshire by the looks of the radar, some thunder on it earlier,so maybe something to look forward to?

After almost 2 days of non stop rain and floods in South Kerry , today was a pet day! I swam at Derrynane in the sunshine and later hiked up around Molls Gap and Black Valley, I think I got a bit of sunburn on my neck, temperatures up to 18 degrees! Amazing day but we are back to the rain tonight.

Raining heavily here in South Wicklow all evening with a particularly heavy band just starting to move away now. Around 11mm since 3pm today and around 20mm since early morning, on top of the 50mm that fell in the previous 24 hours, and another significant spell forecast for tomorrow on some models could leave some parts of Wicklow around the 100mm mark by midnight Friday. It's nothing compared with Cork obviously, but still a significant amount of rain for this part of the country, around an average month's worth in 4 days.

Any idea when we might get a couple of days in a row break from the rain?

You're not imagining it at all. Hot countries are getting hotter, rainier countries are getting wetter, quite clearly climate change. And changing very dramatically too as seen in just in a few years. When I lived in Dublin rainy days were, like you say, very infrequent. Here in Kerry while it was always much wetter than in Dublin, we used to enjoy a lot more dry weather. Nowadays dry days are few and far between. And the experts say that it will only get worse.😲

It has been an absolute nightmare for me, honestly the back roads have been horrendous and the amount of crashes on Motorway has been unreal.

Was there today, absolutely drenched out of it and so much flow.

Yeah looks amazing, apparently still heavy rain up there right now so tempted to take a trip tomorrow morning!

October is now Dublin Airport's 4th consecutive wetter than average month with 83.5mm estimated as of 2100 this evening. Could it reach 100mm? Would be the 4th consecutive month to do so as well. There hasn't been 4 or more consecutive 100mm months here since 1958.

Going to be serious trouble if Nov and Dec are wet too.

Cork Airport could even beat last October which was its wettest since 1996.

A beautiful morning here in Castlebar. Light winds and good sunshine. Enjoy today and tomorrow. Unsettled from Monday again

    More on Cork Airport...

It's on 215.2mm of rain for October 2023 now.

Last year was its wettest October since 1996 with 232.5mm.

Could very well end up its wettest October on record.

Well off its wettest month on record though which is December 2015 with a mental 402.2mm.

There was a big spread in the models yesterday to where the most rain would fall, models have come more on line now with the ECM , there may still be a bit of movement in the track but looking heavy for sure.

Area of LP dragging up a trailing front over Ireland, the triple point set to move up overland, could well see in excess of 30mm in places, one to keep an eye on.
