Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If the last 3 official MSAs are anything to go by, we could be waiting until Paddy Kielty's drawing his pension, before this opens...

Personally think there should be services every 25km on the motorway network but an changes shouldn't be allowed delay the projects. They should be amended in tandem with the current process.

  • Registered Users Posts: 56 ✭✭Norteño

I think 40kms would be a sensible compromise. I personally agree with you, but the costs involved would be huge, it would probably put off both the retailers and TII.

Do you really need a service station every fifteen minutes? The M11 is remarkably empty most of the time anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,633 ✭✭✭prunudo

Yes, certainly from a truck driving point of view. There is still a serious lack of service areas to allow the required breaks.

But not every stop needs to be a full service area. In France and other countries, every second or more stops are serviced by only a Toi Toi, but provide the necessary space for truckers and motorists to stop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,633 ✭✭✭prunudo

Yes, every stop doesn't need to have costa, bk, subway and convenience store, but it should be serviced with toilet and clean water, also needs to be well lit and have safe parking, not a layby 8m from traffic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,154 ✭✭✭✭josip

not a layby 8m from traffic.

Ah, the autostrada solution for trucker's rests.

At sundown, when they're nearly all full, 3 trucks can almost fit in each one.

'Almost' means that the nose of Truck 1 and the asre of Truck 3 sticks out into the hard shoulder.

Might improve the signage approaching the Oilgate roundabout. The barrier is alway in bits and I notice track marks on the roundabout today where a car has gone across it.

Aside from the service station, this appears to be going ahead fairly well. I had no idea they were at the ground investigation and archaeological stage.

    Are detailed plans up yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,154 ✭✭✭✭josip

Fingers crossed the archaeological investigation doesn't unearth a long boat or something.

Has there been any updates, or is there any more information available? Looking at a property that is near to the preferred option (2-3 fields away) but not directly affected by it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭geographica

Well the preferred corridor is published and it’ll be within that area, what updates do you need?

The next update can’t be too far away

    Proper update:

» Following the commencement of Phase 3 (Design and Environmental Evaluation) in December 2021, the Project Team has made progress on the development of the design of the Preferred Transport Solution.

Our environmental specialists continue to undertake wide ranging ecology surveys in relation to badgers, otters, birds, bats, and barn owls amongst others.  In addition, noise and air quality surveys, archaeological geophysical surveys, cultural heritage walkover surveys, agronomy surveys, and ground investigation works have progressed.  These surveys have been facilitated by landowners granting Wexford County Council and our agents’ permission to access their lands, and liaison is on-going.

In line with current policies, e.g. the Climate Action Plan, the Project Team are now examining provision of the following facilities as part of the project:

    • An Online Service Area with EV Charging infrastructure and Safe & Secure Parking facilities.
    • Active Travel facilities to meet future demand.

This body of work is extensive, and has extended the timeframe to complete Phase 3.

It is programmed that the project will be submitted to the Department of Transport (in accordance with the Infrastructure Guidelines) in Q1 2026; with permission to make Planning Application submission to An Bord Pleanála (i.e. to progress to Phase 4 – Statutory Processes) anticipated in Q3 2026 (subject to receiving the necessary approvals and the availability of funding).

4.5 years from route selection to ABP submission. A proper **** pisstake.

That's actually incredible. Phase 3 was planned to be a 21 month project, and its now estimated to be (at least) 54 months! The mind boggles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,154 ✭✭✭✭josip

This country does not handle Scope Changes well. Everyone expected that there would be an increase in the timeframe due to the additional Service Area requirement. But I always get the feeling that as soon as any change is suggested, private contractors like BAM go ka-ching-ching, and state bodies seem to scrunch up whatever they have been working on and start all over again.

Let’s face it, wasn’t it always gonna be at least that long?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,154 ✭✭✭✭josip

I've voted Green a lot of times in the past 20 years but now seriously regret voting for them in the last GE. They went on a complete power trip and are completely anti rural with their policies. Eamon Ryan, even though he's no longer leader, wants us to commute to Dublin by bicycle.

If he wanted to do something practical, he should have started twin tracking the Bray to Greystones rail line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,709 ✭✭✭jd

It's as much to do with the requirement of an online service station. This hadn't been envisaged when the scheme started. Rural pols like a bit of green bashing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,754 ✭✭✭cgcsb

I'm curious what policies did you vote for when you voted green and what has changed since then? did the green party ever say they were pro motorway?

I don't actually think anyone wants you to commute from Wexford to Dublin by Bicycle, you sound hysterical.

Why are they taking so long to submit planning? Q3 2026 seems outrageous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭geographica

Your guess is as good as mine, all I know is they’ve spent a helluva lot of public money getting nowhere fast

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,040 ✭✭✭Pete_Cavan

If the intention is to build a motorway the whole way, then that would have added a lot of unnecessary time, cost and effort.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,474 ✭✭✭✭road_high

that is the plan as far as I know, but I think it’s way off as there’s a lot of far worse roads in the country. That whole route was upgraded in the late 80s and 90s as wide two lane and outside of rush hour and ferry arrivals isn’t that busy below Wexford town. Far worse roads in the country that had minimal upgrades need attention first

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,154 ✭✭✭✭josip

What are the other roads in the country that are in more need of an upgrade? Not looking for an argument, genuinely curious. Eg. some parts of Cork to Limerick has way less traffic (11,200) than Oylegate to Wexford (17,528).

    https://trafficdata.tii.ie/publicmultinodemap.asp

Also, big wide road doesn't necessarily mean safe. The extra width can encourage more dangerous driving practices and there are multiple right turns across oncoming traffic still permitted.

By the time planning goes in or is approved and works are about to start, the legislative requirements will of changed again and we'll be back to square one. It is literally that slow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭geographica

And round and round we go, with million upon millions spent already

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭geographica

You’d be surprised how busy the N25 is all hours of the day
