There's still no compelling reason for not bringing in rapid build bus gates which would reduce the reliability issues over night.

Still no barrier to implementing camera enforcement, which we're due to get another report on by December. I'm sure commuters will be delighted with another report.

    It’s utterly daft and unclear.

Yet again the NTA can’t get the simple things right.

Show departure time from Parkgate St and show the departure time from the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre.

Instead we have a timetable for the round trip and you can’t tell what stop that the times quoted are from!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭StreetLight

It looks like buses will depart the Visitor Centre, turn at Parkgate Street, pick up and immediately head back. So the Visitor Centre is the one and only terminus and layover point.

No waiting around at Parkgate Street, clogging up the 46A turnaround or the 26/69 stop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

That’s what it is but it would be helpful to explain that simply!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,773 ✭✭✭AngryLips

How long must BC continue to fail before there's any official acknowledgement and recognition that it has failed? You can't solve the problem if no one's even willing to admit the problem. Are Dubliners just expected to continually exist in a state where they're served by overstretched bus network on the promise that one day it won't be overstretched anymore without any specific deadlines for when relief might come?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,072 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

Are they going to start charging for it?

Does anyone get the Luas red line towards city in morning rush hour? It's so frustrating. It's impossible to get on due to the amount of people. Multiple trams arrive but everyone is packed in like sardines so need to wait for the next one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

We still need the improved bus network though. That has to happen, regardless of anything else.

It’s not one or the other.

I certainly would not agree that BusConnects has failed - the new orbital bus routes that have been rolled out aren’t failing, quite the opposite.

What is certainly the case is that it is happening far more slowly than we’d all like, but it looks as if the next phase, which is probably the largest in terms of service expansion of the lot, is destined to launch in November.

The free version allows for seeing the next few buses arriving at a stop, the paid version shows all of them, or something like that.

Having used the free version, it's still better than what's out there.

I mean that's the definition of a crisis and I think it has been admitted that there is a staffing crisis. Covid was a crisis, nobody could tell you when it'd be over, wars are a crisis etc. I wouldn't say BC is a failure, because it has yet to be implemented, it remains a plan on paper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

I’d agree - being able to see where the buses physically are is brilliant - I can use my own judgement then as to when to head to the stop.

Is the next phase solely the southern orbitals, or will a spine be launched alongside?

Also is the new EW fleet going to be replacing the remaining VTs.

A FF councillor in Blackrock will have an online meeting this Sunday evening at 7:30pm to talk about an update on BusConnects. It is discussing the impacts of the BusConnects Bray to City Centre corridor on the junctions at Shankill and the N11 roundabout. I'm not sure whether the rollout of the Southern Orbitals phase along with the E-Spine routes will be discussed at the meeting. It would be a little helpful during the meeting to have a new rollout date for the E-Spine if it is going to be officially delayed due to the lack of drivers.

Are there any local politicians who have actually looked at the plans? Usually they just tell people bus lines are getting removed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭DaBluBoi

More likely that AXs will be retired. Capacity cut from retiring the VTs would be too much, plus more drivers would be required

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,630 ✭✭✭john boye

There's only about 20 AXs left. There'll be a lot more than just those being replaced. Suspect the VTs will be safe for now though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,900 ✭✭✭thomasj

Sure there is no suitable alternative for the 39a atm, it can barely maintain the 10 minute daytime frequency , it would struggle with a reduction of 10% in some of it's departures of the VTs were to suddenly be taken out of service.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,336 ✭✭✭p_haugh

Just the southern orbitals (plus the 74, so one radial route as well).

Would the EV's (Enviro 400) fleet would also be due for retirement soon after the AX's go out of the fleet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,508 ✭✭✭VG31

Hopefully - the EVs are the worse of the DB fleet from a passenger comfort perspective IMO. The legroom is poor and the seats at the back downstairs are very hard.

There was a fatal accident in phibsboro last night meaning total road closure with all traffic diverted to Whitworth Road. When this happens for some reason bus lanes are suspended. Can't imagine why?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,336 ✭✭✭p_haugh

Route 99 has been launched, ahead of it starting on Sunday. Given PA223 was used for the photo ops I'd imagine it'll be operated by Conyngham Road.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,292 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

Honestly can't see that getting much use at all. Maybe if it continued up the quays and into the city centre as per the 90z proposal it might be more logical. The routing sounds very similar to the short lived Aircoach operated Phoenix Park Shuttle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭Daith

A pity perhaps it wasn't launched before the summer but be interesting how much it's used alright

Noticed a new stop on Butterfield Avenue opp Circle K towards Tallaght this afternoon before the one at The Old Orchard - looks like bus changes are coming soon

I would have thought that the new single decker EV buses coming to the O route would have been better suited to this new rubbish Phoenix Park route.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,606 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Will the S6 or the S8 use the new stop on Butterfield Avenue or will it be used by both routes?

Just seen on social media, the new phoenix park bus only runs from 9am to 6pm. I guess its meant to fail by the sounds of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭Daith

It's mainly designed for people going to the Zoo or just visiting for the day right?

I can kinda see the logic in this.

It would have been great if a bus could go through the Cabra gates as a proper bus route, but that ain't happening now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,773 ✭✭✭AngryLips

So they're not going to serve people cruising in the furry glen?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,606 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

I've seen on Youtube that EW 61 did a few runs on the C2 on Saturday. Did anyone here get on it?

Latest internal date for phase 5 implementation in Dublin Bus is November 26th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭cgcsb

What does phase 5 include? I'm lost at this stage as to what the phases and half phases are.

The Learner buses with 'driver under instruction' on them are going through St Helena's road with a greater frequency than the actual bus service so hopefully we've turned a corner so to speak in recruitment.

The southern orbitals in the form of S4, S6, S8, L25 (I Believe S2 as well?). Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 74 will also be introduced as it covers most of the section of the 17 between Rathfarnham and Rialto, and sections of the 61 around Balinteer/Whitechurch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭cgcsb

So far all the spines launched are the ones that terminate in or very close to the city centre. Will be interesting to see a cross city cinema implemented but we're probably a while of that.

For me the inner orbitals are sorely lacking the O, N2 and S2 are game changers in connectivity for a lot of people.

This next phase, is probably the single largest set of changes of any phase - it completely changes the southside orbital network and sees a decent increase in frequencies. Lots of positive changes, and hopefully one of the routes will see 24 hour operation - the S4 being the one I'd choose. I still believe that the S8 routing, totally bypassing Dundrum, is a mistake, as the 175 is frequently full in Dundrum arriving from and leaving for points west of Dundrum.

When the major cross-city spines start changing, I think that's when it'll be interesting to see reactions, as some people travelling cross-city on a direct route will now have to change, while others gain a direct route. Most of the changes with the spines are more like re-arranging the furniture, while the orbitals are the real game changers in terms of connectivity.

Did anyone go to the online meeting held by the FF councillor about the planned infrastructure changes for the Shankill roundabout & N11 junction on Sunday evening?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,366 ✭✭✭bikeman1

Anecdotally at least, I’ve noticed quite a lot of Dublin Bus training bus / buses out and about across the Northside over the last few weeks. These have been out at all times morning rush hour and even after 20:00 tonight.

Hopefully we are close to seeing these new drivers filter through onto the network and ease cancellations.

  • Registered Users Posts: 88 ✭✭AX636

There is 2 shifts in the training school 7-3 and 3-11 pm as the school is very busy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 744 ✭✭✭lordleitrim

I think a key indicator of progress will be newly trained drivers not leaving after a few months having decided its not for them. I unfortunately know a couple of new drivers who left within a year due to the erratic shift schedules and poor work life balances. Unfortunately the unions won't help with that as the longtermers who are the most embedded to the unions wil not sacrifice or share the better shifts with the new bloods.

It's taken about 25 mins to get from one end of OCS to another this afternoon. And I'd like to lay the blame at cars in the way but I've hardly spotted any cars just lots of buses. Maybe bus connects will partly resolve this bur j think it's still too reliant on OCS, more use should be made of Church and Gardener St

It took me 8 minutes on the Luas getting from O'Connell St South to OCS North stop.

Painful and that's before you get to the chaos after that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭cgcsb

Maybe not enough people complain, the number of people effected by the current **** show in public transport nust be enormous, in the hundreds of thousands but the media seems to want to talk about the conor pass deabcle instead.

You were lucky on the luas buses are more than double that time doing that distance.

Was there ever a reason given why we can't have rapid build bus corridors in advance of busconnects?

  • Registered Users Posts: 658 ✭✭✭loco_scolo

Something else going on on OCS. Is it a protest ? It's closed to traffic southbound. Luas moving okay, just stuck behind one other. But Marlborough Street is bumper to bumper taxis and rerouted buses.

Edit: it's a pro Palestine march starting at the Spire. Good luck getting through city if commuting. I just made it ahead of protest but traffic is bedlam

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭Daith

Yeah, my Luas delay was before the protest kicked off anyway.

It's just an awful street in general

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,773 ✭✭✭AngryLips

There's a protest about the situation in Israel/Gaza
