This happened last week too and the Russians were absolutely wiped out over the next few days.

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

I agree that it is beyond question that the winter presents a totally different scenario because of the ground conditions but iritis not to say that the UKr can do nothing to keep upsetting the Ru ‘appletart’ Ukr cannot allow Ru any time to lay more mines/ defences or at least keep that aspect to a minimum . I understand that The UKr engineers/ innovative farmers , etc are genises at coming up with innovative solutions - By way of a very simple example a very , very light vehicle on very wide rubber tracks / tyres that can negotiate the mud and are very fast and versatile. I have never been there so I can only speculate like a lot of us . I had experience of extracting/ driving out a large vehicle from some serious quicksand

Would satelite, US and drone recon nance not fairly pinpoint where these warrens of group concentrations are and bomb the s—t out of them. And if they are empty , at least they cannot be used immediately again which exposes the Ru soldiers all the more. I assume that the UKr has all this worked out so as to get maximum effect from minimum input

The Polish have been the standout ally for Ukraine in continental Europe.

Unfortunately Germany has shown itself to be a lose cannon many times over the last 20 years, it's still going to resonate.

Not necessarily no , according to propaganda maybe ,but Russian artillery is still inflicting serious damage despite the repeated claims that Russia is out of guns and barrels ,and ammunition

Isn't it more a case of Russia digging deeper into Soviet era hardware?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

Oddly enough they are producing a mix and older and new equipment, despite various claims they wouldn't be able to ,and only recently they announced an 68% increase in military spending over the next while, that's a big increase even for them, I'd hazard a guess that a good bit of their budget will go on foreign weapons systems,

For sure will not go down easily, but it is also noguarantee of victory, as the poster claimed.

The early years of the Syrian uprising was also about people fighting for freedom and liberation from dictatorship. They fought with heart and heroism. Look how it ended (in no small part due to Russian involvement).

Ukraine needs continued massive Western backing or has no hope of outright victory. Let's hope they retain it

Quadruple chin nepo emerald mine apartheid off spring hardly has room to talk. Ukraine is fighting for its survival. Back in 2015 he had already received almost $5B in government subsidies for his vanity projects. Seems to be something wrong with him upstairs.

It's all such a joke to him, in his ivory tower.

There was a time when people in his position of wealth and power just kept quiet and stayed in the background counting their money and luck. When did it become the norm for them to behave like teenagers?

He should take a trip to the frontlines and see how his tech bro jokes go down.

The mask has come right off since he bought Twitter. Little or no critical thinking, far right views, anti-vax, falls for conspiracies, fake pictures on social media, the whole 9 yards. Desperate to be liked and to be contrarian, it's unsurprising he's gone down the "I support Ukraine but" rabbit hole.

It’s truly amazing how Musk has destroyed his reputation so completely. This was a guy that a lot of people saw as someone trying to do something good, moving the dial on EVs and rockery etc. Try to helping humanity through technology. But now?

Ever since the attack on the British caver involved in the Thailand rescue 5 years ago his reputation has plummeted and continues to do so - is it deliberate, to court the MAGA wing of the republicans to hedge his bets? He didn’t get on with Trump last time and lost EV tax credits, is he trying to prevent this happening again? Or is he just a **** person.

Either way his behaviour jeopardises his businesses, I know of a few people who were fanboys wanting to own Teslas, who now won’t dream of supporting him and have switched to rival EVs.

I’m sure some in the space administration must have great reservations about him and are hoping Boeing finally get their capsule up and running so they can reduce their dependency on Musk.

I can see the EU moving against twitter in the coming years - that is if it lasts…..

There's a whole thread here dedicated to ribbing and generally collecting the continued brainfarts of this naked emperor, continually unrobed by his own bullshít. He's a middled aged edgelord beloved of 8chan contrarians, I'm not the least bit surprised he's trying to Well, Actually and Both Sides Russia. Like Jordan Peterson, I wish Musk would fúck right off.

You can count me in that EV category in that originally when I was considering buying my first EV it was without doubt going to be a Tesla. But due to my dislike of Musk that got ditched and I bought a Ford instead.

Musk has admitted he's in contact directly with Vladimir Putin.

He most likely admires the thought of a white male dictator.

He sees himself above what the little people on the ground have to endure. Probably gets a perverse pleasure from it.

50% of Jordan Peterson is AI.

It looks like history is starting up again.

Few posters here showing their colours. As if we didn't already know.

You think it's funny when a president has to approach the global community hat in hand so that he can protect his people from being murdered, raped and its children stolen to be brainwashed? That's a joke that has you rolling around on the floor?

Meanwhile Mr Martin visited Ukraine today and got an award for absolutely nothing

Not sure zelensky ever had an Irishman begging in his office before

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,550 ✭✭✭Virgil°

Ireland hosts almost 94,000 Ukrainian refugees. That's a little under half of what the UK is doing and our population is 14 times smaller. We're par or exceeding the likes of Germany per capita.

We have no military to speak of and are banned by our constitution to send direct military aid anyways. But we've still donated millions to the cause. Sent mine clearing instructors and non military aid in the form of ambulances and kit.

It could be argued that we're doing well beyond what could reasonably be asked of such a small country. And if Zelensky wants to hand out a medal to one of our representatives for that then why f**k not? What sort of miserable gowls would bemoan it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,254 ✭✭✭Economics101

According to the Statista numbers, Russia has the highest number of refugees (1.275m), more than Germany and Poland (a little less than 1m each).

Something very fishy about those numbers: I wonder about the source of the Russian ones. Does it inlcude those who were kidnapped or expelled?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,370 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

We are not banned from sending direct military aid. There is nothing in our constitution about neutrality.

However we are giving significant aid to Ukraine as well taking a significant number of there population into our country. Rather than going head to head with people who are against military aid we train there troops in mine clearing which we are very good at. As well we are training them in combat medicine.

We do not have a significant military or have weapons development expertise so not much point in us going down that roi

    Slava Ukrainii

Without wanting to derail the thread, I have to say that I'm very disappointed in what he has become. As a casual student of aeronautical and space engineering, I have been following his career from the very moment he went to Russia to buy up some old Russian engines shortly after Spacex was formed. While his drive and achievements with Falcon 1, Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, the Dragon capsule, starlink and of course the soon-to-fly-again Starship and the Super Heavy Booster, not to forget the incredible Raptor closed-cycle engine, is to be lauded, he does undermine the work of his engineers and technicians with the absolute nonsense he comes out with. It's little wonder Gwen Shotwell has taken over at Boca Cica.

Some here have described his projects as "vanity projects", however Nasa and almost every western country and company that now look to space, beg to differ. Spacex' s Falcon rockets ( plus Dragon) are currently the only method for the US and European astronauts to get to Space, ( Boeing have yet to fly a crew in theirs), since the war in Ukraine. Plus, the Artemis Project, which is humanities return to the moon, is relying on Starship ( in development in Texas) to work. People forget that there are almost 24,000 people working for Musk and they're not all nutcases.

He's an important individual, but is beginning to believe his Messianic hype and is in serious danger of destroying decades worth of advancements in engineering for the good of humanity. If the Artemis program fails, or if the support for SpaceX's and NASAs endeavours evaporates, he only has himself to blame.

It is widely known that he has serious back pain issues over the last number of years and has been self medicating with some seriously strong pain-killers. His erratic and moronic behaviour coincides with this long period of self medicating. In my opinion, he's better off retiring and allowing his executive engineers and managers to get on with their work before he does something idiotic. Or worse, some idiot does something to him.

Also, while the Ukrainian armed forces were very quick to recognise and exploit the power of Starlink, the US Government have been asleep at the wheel in this regard.
