(edit) apologies, post was erroneous and don't know how to delete the post 🥺

Curiously enough, a manual retune of both muxes yesterday didn't correct the LCNs, but today an auto retune did.

Hi. I just want to know. Will virgin media ireland will launched TG4+1 and RTE2+1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭Mickey Mike

They'd want to launch Virgin Media 1 HD on saorview.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,110 ✭✭✭✭lertsnim

I wouldn't hold my breath considering it is taking them so long to add RTÉ 2 +1

They’d want to launch virgin media one plus one as well

Why waste bandwidth on +1 channels ? Implement catch-up via the players similar to Freeview, yes I know that would mean some agreement would be needed with Virgin Media to use their player. RTÉ player & TG4 shouldn't be a problem.

Imo the bandwidth taken up by these +1 channels would be better used giving us the main stations in HD. Again some agreement with Virgin Media would need to be sorted for that to happen.

It does seem bizzare starting a +1 channel in this day and age, however ratings for +1 channels show they still have an audience.

VM HD is not going to happen anytime soon if ever imho

I agree. Saorview is just a shop window for their cable service at the end of the day.

Only just noticed Challenge has been added after having to do a retune and wondering Uh? Any rumours or real stations being added in the future?

Is TG4+1 supposed to be a black screen? mine is since I tuned it in last week from Kippure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,389 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

Was showing scheduled programmes the last couple of nights for me.

I didn't tune at all but I see it on the EPG and when I click on it the on screen message says it's starting on the 8/09/2023.

Are you checking after 8:00 in the evening? Like BBC4 it co-shares the slot with Cúla4 depending on time of day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭ITV2

Thanks Gerry.. I wasn't aware of the sharing like BBC4 do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,551 ✭✭✭mackersdublin

Cúla4 officially starts at 4pm tomorrow

And as @Gerry Wicklow said, the channel will timeshare with TG4 +1 on Saorview

    14 'TG4 +1' (20:00-06:00)

    18 'Cúla4' (06:00-20:00)

It's a disgrace that VM is not HD.

It should be made part of the broadcast licence that if they broadcast in HD on another service that it should be HD on soarview.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,837 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

Is Cula4 on at the weekends?

Didn't realise it timeshared with tg4+1 but right now I am getting 'Cláir ag tosú ag 20:00'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,586 ✭✭✭Gerry Wicklow

Have you both channels tuned in as separate entries? Cúla4 is on air until 20:00

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,837 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

I did a full retune on the terrestrial and it seemed to come in as a separate entry. Then after renumbering and reordering the channels it had disappeared.

If it is sharing would they not be on the same channel anyway?

Edit. The Challenge channel also isn't there. Maybe I messed up something.

It's similar to BBC4/Cbeebies. They have different EPG entries. If you select BBC4 during the day you may see and hear Cbeebies (and an error message) but will not get EPG data for it.

I think it’s just a translation of “coolaboola”.
