The over saturation of firearms and the idea that firearms can solve anything is the Biggest issue along with lack of any real mental health programs

I think it's the people trying to make it ALL about the guns.

Other countries have relatively large amounts of guns, but don't have commensurate numbers of shootings.

Guns are a problem in the US, because it's an unsuitable place to have so many of them. But it's a lost cause trying to rid a nation like the US of guns... it's simply never going to happen. In fact gun availability is increasing, and looks set to continue along this trend regardless of gun control measures.

So the solution needs to shift elsewhere, away from the tools and towards the core motivations and causal effects of the violence. But then certain groups would be denied of their favourite political football to kick around... so round and round we go! People just looking to score points rather than actually solve the problem.

And it's only going to get worse ,we already seeing 3D printed semi auto pistols and assault rifles ,no way of tracking or enforcing them ,

Sooner or later some numpty will be able to print a belt fed light machine gun and see what happens then

I've had this debate out with a lot of Americans over the years and I've never found this "nothing can be done about the guns anyway so what's the point" argument to be convincing. I say that because I think it's a cop-out to avoid being challenged on the actual rationale that underpins the belief that guns are needed in the first place.

The gun economy in America, like all economies, works on narrative. There is a narrative as to why you need or should want a certain product — and in the case of America's love-in with guns, while the 2nd Amendment gets trotted out as the inviolable right, the narrative as to why it's so inviolable appears to rest more in the concepts of self-defence, home defence and this pretty murky hypothesis of balancing the odds against the government should it decide to become tyrannical.

The great crime of the conservative Right in America is that its brighter proponents are either happy to massage these narratives as a means of creating vote-generating fear of the Democrats or are unwilling to actually apply the same "facts and logic" thinking they appear to pride themselves on when it comes to trans issues. Because ultimately, each of the narratives that underpins the tight cling of American fingers to their arsenal of weaponry are capable of being challenged and de-escalated.

A shooter in Jacksonville killed several black Americans in a racially and politically motivated attack. His gun was covered in swastikas, he apparently left one or more copies of his manifesto. He first tried to commit the shooting at an HBCU, before then deciding to target a Dollar General. FBI treating this as a hate crime. He drove out from Clay County where he lived with his parents to carry it out.

Of the top 2 states for mass shootings, one has loose gun laws and the other doesn't. If loose gun laws are the cause of shooting massacres, then logically how is it that they don't both have loose gun laws?
