"A lot of men won't watch it"

I would say in general men would have a much larger interest in football than women (obvious generalisation, people can do or like whatever they want) so would be more likely to watch it.

My group of football supporting lads who've been to both Euros in our adult lives all watched the qualifier and though it was a cagey game it was a great watch with the tension involved.

I don't have high hopes as the quality just is not there for the Irish team but women's sport is often let down by women not watching or engaging more than men who would be more likely to sign their daughters up for sports like this.

With even that said, can we just not begrudge this? It's a world cup and it's Ireland. If it was on in Italy everyone would be watching, just like Italia 90. As it is I hope everyone does try. Just a shame we were poxxed by the match times.

You would have to wonder why so many people came in here to tell us they have no interest in this. You’d feel sorry for the women in their lives considering their attitudes toward them.

    Holding tyrants to the fire

I probably won't be watching many of the Irish team's games. I am not comfortable of the fact that they sang a sectarian song after a victory, while still wearing the Irish colours. It struck me as incredibly immature and disrespectful. They really let themselves down.

I am inspired by how much the women's game has grown though, it wasn't that long ago at all that they had to borrow tracksuits from the men's team and change in the airport toilets before trips.

I find it incredibly amusing to see the tantrums from sexist boomer commentators online, foaming at the mouth at the idea that there is a sport which exists that does not cater exactly to their tastes. Lying practically horizontally in their reclining chairs, knocking over the tins of Carling from their protruding, stretched, pink stomachs as they clamour for their greasy phones with slimy, stubby fingers. "They wouldn't last a half in the men's game" they wheeze in apoplexy, "they shouldn't play. They're girls. They shouldn't play." The misogynists death rattle.

New Zealand the better team so far. Nice goal at the start of 2nd half

    Nice goal by New Zealand.

Ada Hegerberg doesn't appear to be the player she was a few years back ,sadly she missed out on probably the peak years of her international career because of her protest against the Norwegian FA (which was stupid as he own sister played for the team during the last world cup so if she couldn't get her own sister to fully support her there clearly wasn't much real basis for her protest).

  • Sam Kerr is out. Arguably best striker in world. Big opportunity for Ireland.

  • Some atmosphere!!!!

This would be improved if someone could work on Stephanie Roches knuckler dub accent....its like a cheese grater in my head...nearly on a par with Ronnie Whelans screeching dry brakes whine!

Such a basic thing to get right and rte yet again fail. Audio from the future. Super annoying.
