A good contest in fairness watched in the pub and so it could be the few pints that made it exciting. Monaghan were limited enough but do what Monaghan do and die with there boots on. Like I said earlier that's a great Dublin team and has enough there to get them over the line, but The likes of kilkenny and rock has not had much game time and it showed today. We have a job to do tomorrow to set up the grand final and the mouth watering contest that the neutrals are looking for.

There does seem to be bit of a gap between both Kerry and Dublin and the rest. We have a Limerick and Kilkenny hurling final, and a Dublin and possibly Kerry football final. There are disappointing final pairings if you're a neutral imo.

'82 stopped Kerry winning the five in a row. They had lost the '76 final so never a ninth in a row.

That was before they saw the replay was it not? They audibly reacted to the replay and moved on

Hopefully Kerry do the business tomorrow and give us a proper final.

They are away from the action. The ref is 15-20 metres from the play. I usually wait for the replay to make the decision if watching on TV.

The TV commentators are probably 100 M away from the action. You can hardly expect there realtime comments to be the actual definition of the actions

They are not allowed to use replays on the big screen. Though it was given in error, by the rules of the game, the 45 should have stood.

Not the first time that the referee let Monaghan off the hook easy. Two disallowed points for Dublin, a harsh yellow against McCarthy when he stood his ground and the Monaghan player charged into him, the soft free to allow Monaghan get the first score etc.

Wasn't a great refereeing display as a number of off-the-ball incidents were missed, all in all, the poor refereeing favoured Monaghan slightly in the end. As is normal, to win a game, Dublin need to score much more from play than the opponent as they won't be given frees inside the opposition 45 that often.

It is blindingly obvious, and was clear again today in Croke Park, when we had five minutes of Monaghan handpassing the ball around going nowhere.

Looking at the game today, one clear rule change that would stop the type of possession football at the back would be a requirement for the goalkeeper to stay inside his own 21. Fly goalkeepers make the boring repetition of possession much easier as they create a mismatch and lead to some awful football.

Ya the ref rose Dublin, he had saddle on the all day.

The best way to counter the anti-football that Monaghan play is fast, quick attack on turnovers. Dublin are so good at securing turnovers, that they can take a risk on upping the pace. Plenty of long kicking from Dublin at the right time was key, it may have appeared as rushed at time, but it made Monaghan less secure and confident.

This is the key statistic, happens time and again that Dublin outscore the opposition from play.

One other key part of today was that Dublin won the ten minutes during the black card. Poor decision-making both on the pitch and from the sidelines by Monaghan as that was the time to push.

Time will tell will he get 9 or will he regret coming back and losing a final and picking the ball out of the net 3 or 4 times. That's wishful thinking from a kerry point of view.

As I said, not whinging. These things happen. That 2 point lead at that stage was the turning point.

Again too limited a sample to come up with any conclusion about which counties do the most kick passing.

So what do we reckon, Kerry by 5 or 6?

If they get ahead it'll be pretty easy for them

Very wishful thinking, chap hasn't conceded a goal in over 1000 minutes , that's obscene.

Galway are one of the pukiest teams out there and got as far as they deserved.

The fact that we're beaten and knocked out (in salthill) by a completely out of form and out of sorts Mayo team makes it all the funnier.

One sad thing that the over funding and advantages some teams have has allowed happen is this idea that there is such a thing as 'anti-football'. Never mind puke football what a puke statement that is.

It is born of false arrogance to depict teams trying to overcome the obvious disadvantage they are at to call what they do 'anti-football' or 'anti' the game. Yesterday and many games before hand have shown that the passion and will to win is there in players and supporters. They are not 'anti' the sport they are just trying to do what every one is trying to do - win.

I think the success these super teams engender has attracted supporters who don't know the game nor care too much for it. Some of the shite talked here this week alone was soul destroying and depressing to be honest and I stayed away from this forum in the build up.

You can be sure the 'anti-footballers' of Monaghan will be togged out and ready for another season come the winter.

The people who have been doing this need to take a wee look at themselves.

Hopefully we see the last of the anti football whinging argumentative types today. Looking forward to yourselves and the kingdom going toe to toe. Shout out to O'Rourkes lads yesterday too. Nice to see the Royal Co. back in the silverware.

Ok, well done ..well done…in a place I worked we had an awkward lad who queried everything, ‘what time do I go on tea break’ ‘ how come employee X got an extra four minutes break’ ‘my wet gear is not properly fitted’ and so on….

Eventually the other staff threatened not to to work with him.

One staff member even told him to measure every door in the building when he complained of draughts.

    And he did!

Never took anything on face value, always took a ‘stance’.

    It's definitely happened before.

I don't think there's any rules regarding video assistants in the gaa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭tobesure

    Jeez I'm not sure.

I don't think it had any impact on the end result as the dubs would have won anyways but it was a free to make it a two point game I think.

I can't even tell after watching the replay whether it was off the ground. It was really really tight and if I had to make a decision, I'd have let it go. The ball was bouncing. I don't think the replay is conclusive so I don't know how the ref called a free, especially as no one would have batted and eye if it wasn't given as the ball was bouncing and everyone assumed it had bounced.

Refs making those calls of mm yet not being able to see over carries or steps would be peak gaa though

Nice to be looking forward to an All Ireland final again. Made hard work of it for a long time but i thought Monoghan were very good for a large part of the game but ran out of steam a bit for last 10 minutes.

One thing is for sure our first half performance will not be good enough in the final. We were good down the stretch and will need that for a full 70 minutes in final i feel.

Hoping Derry can give Kerry a fright today although i would really like our old nemesis in the final.

Either way we are there anyway and will enjoy the two week build up. The flags and bunting will be up again. Sending Jamesie up the Hogan Stand steps to collect the Cup is all that matters now.

Looking forward to another engrossing battle of wits and tactics today. Derry have to bring their scoring boots today and not leave it behind in the first half as Monaghan did.

Get Kerry chasing the game and I think they can win it.

I think Derry would need a real dream start to get a few points up to give themselves any chance to somehow win .I really can't see any outcome other than a comfortable Kerry win .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,732 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

    On paper yeh, Kerry favourites.

But, it's a semi final, who knows.

It's the possibilities that keep real supporters and lovers of football in all it's forms coming back for more.

The greats like Clifford usually follow up an average performance with a top display. Even with Derry's tight defence i expect him to score 1-6 from play or more. When he's fed the right ball and he's on form he's almost unstoppable.

Looking at the two teams just looks a huge gulf and in GAA that usually plays out not like soccer where a weaker team can win with one score and a lot of luck .Obviously very difficult to beat a team that is stronger all over maybe midfield is tight but a big gulf elsewhere I feel .
