This is the key statistic, happens time and again that Dublin outscore the opposition from play.

One other key part of today was that Dublin won the ten minutes during the black card. Poor decision-making both on the pitch and from the sidelines by Monaghan as that was the time to push.

Time will tell will he get 9 or will he regret coming back and losing a final and picking the ball out of the net 3 or 4 times. That's wishful thinking from a kerry point of view.

As I said, not whinging. These things happen. That 2 point lead at that stage was the turning point.

Again too limited a sample to come up with any conclusion about which counties do the most kick passing.

So what do we reckon, Kerry by 5 or 6?

If they get ahead it'll be pretty easy for them

Very wishful thinking, chap hasn't conceded a goal in over 1000 minutes , that's obscene.

Galway are one of the pukiest teams out there and got as far as they deserved.

The fact that we're beaten and knocked out (in salthill) by a completely out of form and out of sorts Mayo team makes it all the funnier.

One sad thing that the over funding and advantages some teams have has allowed happen is this idea that there is such a thing as 'anti-football'. Never mind puke football what a puke statement that is.

It is born of false arrogance to depict teams trying to overcome the obvious disadvantage they are at to call what they do 'anti-football' or 'anti' the game. Yesterday and many games before hand have shown that the passion and will to win is there in players and supporters. They are not 'anti' the sport they are just trying to do what every one is trying to do - win.

I think the success these super teams engender has attracted supporters who don't know the game nor care too much for it. Some of the shite talked here this week alone was soul destroying and depressing to be honest and I stayed away from this forum in the build up.

You can be sure the 'anti-footballers' of Monaghan will be togged out and ready for another season come the winter.

The people who have been doing this need to take a wee look at themselves.

Hopefully we see the last of the anti football whinging argumentative types today. Looking forward to yourselves and the kingdom going toe to toe. Shout out to O'Rourkes lads yesterday too. Nice to see the Royal Co. back in the silverware.

Ok, well done ..well done…in a place I worked we had an awkward lad who queried everything, ‘what time do I go on tea break’ ‘ how come employee X got an extra four minutes break’ ‘my wet gear is not properly fitted’ and so on….

Eventually the other staff threatened not to to work with him.

One staff member even told him to measure every door in the building when he complained of draughts.

    And he did!

Never took anything on face value, always took a ‘stance’.

    It's definitely happened before.

I don't think there's any rules regarding video assistants in the gaa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭tobesure

    Jeez I'm not sure.

I don't think it had any impact on the end result as the dubs would have won anyways but it was a free to make it a two point game I think.

I can't even tell after watching the replay whether it was off the ground. It was really really tight and if I had to make a decision, I'd have let it go. The ball was bouncing. I don't think the replay is conclusive so I don't know how the ref called a free, especially as no one would have batted and eye if it wasn't given as the ball was bouncing and everyone assumed it had bounced.

Refs making those calls of mm yet not being able to see over carries or steps would be peak gaa though

Nice to be looking forward to an All Ireland final again. Made hard work of it for a long time but i thought Monoghan were very good for a large part of the game but ran out of steam a bit for last 10 minutes.

One thing is for sure our first half performance will not be good enough in the final. We were good down the stretch and will need that for a full 70 minutes in final i feel.

Hoping Derry can give Kerry a fright today although i would really like our old nemesis in the final.

Either way we are there anyway and will enjoy the two week build up. The flags and bunting will be up again. Sending Jamesie up the Hogan Stand steps to collect the Cup is all that matters now.

Looking forward to another engrossing battle of wits and tactics today. Derry have to bring their scoring boots today and not leave it behind in the first half as Monaghan did.

Get Kerry chasing the game and I think they can win it.

I think Derry would need a real dream start to get a few points up to give themselves any chance to somehow win .I really can't see any outcome other than a comfortable Kerry win .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80,741 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

    On paper yeh, Kerry favourites.

But, it's a semi final, who knows.

It's the possibilities that keep real supporters and lovers of football in all it's forms coming back for more.

The greats like Clifford usually follow up an average performance with a top display. Even with Derry's tight defence i expect him to score 1-6 from play or more. When he's fed the right ball and he's on form he's almost unstoppable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,854 ✭✭✭rolling boh

Looking at the two teams just looks a huge gulf and in GAA that usually plays out not like soccer where a weaker team can win with one score and a lot of luck .Obviously very difficult to beat a team that is stronger all over maybe midfield is tight but a big gulf elsewhere I feel .

Take David Clifford out and it's pretty even imo. A player like that can win a match on his own. No Derry player or any other player in the country has that ability. Could go down as Kerry's best ever forward. Some say he is already. It's frightening the damage he can do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,854 ✭✭✭rolling boh

David can do huge damage but I think they have others as well better than Derry.I have only seen Derry v Dublin and I didn't see anything that would make them serious contenders in my opinion hope I am well wrong because I would fancy our chances more playing Derry in the final .We shall find out soon enough and hopefully a good close game at least .

Sounds like the sort of chap who would count the number of kick passes in football games. We need someone like that at the hundreds of games to collate their findings to arrive at the overall numbers. Not some people inventing stuff about Kerry and Dublin doing the most kick passes.

Not that it matters in the slightest to normal people. Hand passing and foot passing are both valid ways of playing the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,320 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Dublin got a few 50/50 frees in their favour as well to be honest. Overall I think the referee (Seán Hurson) did grand. No massive major error or anything, just the usual type of GAA stuff.

I often thought about having three refs two on the field and one in the stand with a live feed, to make sure they miss nothing. Then the two lads who decide the decision was the correct/incorrect call would over rule the third fella.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,320 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Derry will have to start like Monaghan did yesterday. But these days I think Kerry are too smart they learnt from Dublin. They basically stole the Jim Gavin template. Have a fella dropping back minding the house. Take the percentage shots, and the heavy sprinkling of skill from the forwards will get the victory etc.

Kerry will look to just slowly chip away at Derry then before you know it they could be 6/7 points up. I know other people want the glamour Kerry/Dublin final.

But I am hoping that Derry pull off the shock win. Kerry has the capability of a 'controlled demolition' of Dublin now. I am not sure I could stick that. Doire Abú and I will even pretend Joe Brolly should have his own statue for the day, of him blowing kisses to the hill.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Not sure you are making much sense there.

If Derry can beat Kerry playing to the Dublin template, as you hope, why could they not do that to the originators of the template in a final?

I hope Derry win on the reason that Kerry have loads won already. They play lovely football but what harm is it to see the title going around to different counties.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,334 ✭✭✭HBC08

In fairness there's no comparison between the midfields,Derry are streets ahead there.

However I'm fully expecting a big win for Kerry. The "football" that Derry are playing will only get you so far, usually found out in QF or Semis on big pitch in Croker. Also Kerry have the experience and the monkey off their back as of last year.If Derry try to double mark DC then it opens up space for others like Paudie,O Shea,Brosnan.Clifford can't be held 1 on 1 and arguably even double marked will score.

I hope we get a half decent game anyway.

Christ if this doesn't happen and Kerry somehow lose, what will people be saying here?

What crowd is expected at the match today? Thought it was an own goal by the gaa not having the tailteann cup as curtain raiser to Kerry n Derry. Should have had the dubs on today. I know a few people who couldn't get tickets for yesterday.

Throw in at 4 today leaves it a late trek back to Derry n Kerry tonight.
