lived close to that area for six years around the top of Dorset Street. Spent a lot of time cycling and walking around Summerhill and Ballybough getting to other places during that time.

Moved out of the area two years ago and could not be happier to be gone. The amount of horrible shite I witnessed there during that 6 year period is mad. Generally it just looks terrible. Litter everywhere. dilapidated buildings. Junkies and tracksuit teenagers hanging about.

It's definitely not as bad as it used to be, but it used to be a warzone, so you don't really have to lift the bar particularly high to say it's improved.

If you've no other option to live anywhere else best of luck, you'll probably be fine and can make it work. Just keep some street smarts about you at night.

Thanks for the reply. I need to take care, I have got it. The housing crisis has reached unprecedented levels. There was no choice. Thanks again. Will share my experience if I survive this. LOL

    Hi everyone,

Just to let you all know, I have survived staying at Summerhill for 2 years and 3 months and have recently moved to D24.

As promised, I am sharing my honest experience.

I never faced any security issues, have returned home on foot, late, drunk, or after rock concerts. The place was convenient as it was close to the city centre.

The space where I lived however was really less for 2 people, and we paid 1600 per month as rent which was too much. The streets are infested with pet poop, spar nearby was pathetic with stuff unavailable when needed the most. Lidl store is coming up very soon there, I hope to see improvement in the area. New walkway alongside the canal made things easier (clarks bridge), its construction time was horrific, it took 2 years for them to build it, the construction work made the area extremely noisy.

During summertime, if you have a match/ music concert at croke park stadium, the street will be closed for buses and cars alike, too much littering and crowd on the streets, with people half drunk behaving strange, talking nonsense, and asking strange questions.

There is only one bus, Route 123 which is the most unreliable bus route ever, sometimes 2 buses come together or no buses for 1 hour. It has got better though with time. It terminates at O'connell st., if there is a match or rock concert at Croke park stadium. You have no option but to walk down from O Connell st.

    I use public transport.

Parking situation is very bad, people have to park far off due to unavailability of space. It works on first come first serve basis, I think.

Properties are generally old in the area so dont expect great construction quality. The trash bin area was infested with rats and despite several requests the landlord could not fix it.

    Thanks to you all.

    Hope this helps
