No. I'm pretty sure she comes to that conclusion on a daily basis 😁

If anyone else is looking to watch some good shows, I recommend Babylon Berlin . For nerdy science lovers, Counterpart is good. Another fine show is the Alienist.

The Alienist I really enjoyed - I read the book way back then. Weirdly, at one point, one series was on Netflix and the other was on Amazon Prime.

I'm surprised at how calm the news in general is about what is happening in Russia.

Patriot is another cracking show, that like Counterpart absolutely deserved another season.

There will be huge amounts of misinformation online, Prigozhin is a fairly major player within the Russian propaganda apparatus: https://edition.cnn.com/2023/02/14/europe/russia-yevgeny-prigozhin-internet-research-agency-intl/index.html

There are massive consequences here. If the supply chain to Russian forces in Ukraine breaks down then that entire conflict changes dynamic very quickly and that won't even be the immediate concern for whoever is leading Russia within the next 48 hours.

If the coup is successful there are all kinds of risks ranging from Russia destabilising to civil war, emerging terrorist factions and a new leader that could escalate existing hostilities.

If Russia ends up a conflict zone then the consequences for the continent are significant. You would also have to imagine that western intelligence services saw this coming.

And not even totally changing the subject, but Extraction 2 is one of the best action movies I've seen in ages. Amazing long sequences of brilliantly shot shootout scenes.

Highly recommend and definitely better than the first movie.

It was a solid flick alright, very visceral action scenes

So Prigozhin has backed down as of half an hour ago? 200km shy of Moscow he turns tail.

He wanted Putin to sack the head of the Russian army and the defence minister.

So did he get what he wanted or did he lose the game of chicken?

If he blinked first, then you'd imagine he's as good as dead.

Wouldn’t be hard, the first one was fairly brutal. Was surprised a second one got commissioned.

Loads of theories floating around ranging from Prigozhin apparently surviving a recent abduction / assassination attempt to this being the start of a fight for control post Putin (either due to some health decline or because the failed invasion of Ukraine has lost him authority).

I doubt this was really about the two specifically named people, this is very much being viewed as a direct attack on Putin and him calling those involved traitors doesn't leave much room for discussion or climb down.

Hard to know what will happen in the coming days, but Prigozhin ceasing his advance is probably not a good sign for him despite everything.

Reports of how easily Wagner recruited support in cities like Rostov does not auger well for Putin.

    "Who are you?"

"A militia group of violent convicts named after Hitler's favorite composer"

    "What are you up to?"

"Heading to Moscow to overthrow your man"

    "We're in"

The whole affair is deeply confusing, but I guess we won't learn more about what on earth actually happened til some point in the future.

Does anyone know why the Irish women rugby sevens team aren't participating at the European Games? Their team is striked out on the wiki

Ireland are qualified for the olympics and it gives another team a shot to try qualify

I think the cult of Elon Musk has been pretty much ruined by his own actions. He's a moron that struck lucky. He's effectively killed Twitter tonight.

    What happened tonight?

Have to say both Twitter and Reddit's self-implosions the last while have pretty much turned my phone back into a call and text machine.

A friend sent me this yesterday, assume this is what Clegg's talking about.

i dont use twitter, but would a regular unverified user actually read 600 posts in a day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,354 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

A very layman's version of what has happened is Twitter refused to pay it's $1B bill to Google for hosting Twitter. Musk tried to migrate systems across to another provider and encountered difficulties. He wouldn't have hit those snags if he hadn't fired everyone who knew how his social media platform worked.

I've stopped using Reddit now that Sync doesn't work for it. Those guys are developing a Sync for Lemmy app now, which will hopefully be as good.

Barely use Twitter but I can see that having massive issues as he continues to piss off all his users.
