Was there not an instance before where Dee Forbes refused to appear before an Oireachtas Committee? Or am I confusing that with another charlatan John Delaney?

It’s quite like Gaybo, though he was a very clever man he trusted his friend with managing his money and kept hands once once the mortgage and bills were being paid. He wasn’t a very ostentatious high flying man, more a family guy and as long as his car worked, he & Kathleen got to Gweedore in the summer, and the girls got schooled, the odd visit to his brothers in America, he wasn’t needing that much for his everyday life and entirely trusted his investments to Murphy.

I imagine Ryan wasn’t great on the lowdown of figures, and as long as a suitable salary was paid into his current account he left the provision for his pension and his daughters’ future to accountancy specialists.

So you agree he should hand back his ill gotten gains?

Tubridy's statement just cut the rug out from your previous post trying to defend him, or did you miss that part in your rush to 'nothing to see here' and attack the people criticising Tubridy because you can't actually defend him?

Weren't you saying he shouldn't have done this?

I should have asked questions at the time and sought answers as to the circumstances which resulted in incorrect figures being published. I didn't, and I bear responsibility for my failure to do so. For this, I apologise unreservedly."

Joe Duffy was audibly breathing heavy on his show today. Sounded like a man feeling some strain.

Yeah, he’s done nothing wrong. He should get a raise!

Eamonn Dunphy’s podcast on this (which I haven’t listened to - yet) describes the actions as a “grubby little stroke”.

    Different class Eamonn! Different class!

No. It won't beforgotten about. I can kind of see what you mean but RTÉ have be saying the following for the last 10 years

    1. We cut funding to our top earners (they didn't, take a look at the figures, cuts come on the Death of 2 presenters and on the exit of 2 others, outside of these exits not an attempt is made to reduce pay)
    2. RTÉ have had their hand out and have failed to make any reforms themselves saying to audience we don't have the money.
    3. And they cut funding to children's content, drama, they've never been successful in comedy.

It will be interesting to see if in August they will have an autumn launch, last year they spend 70k on the RDS for such an event!

If you want money it seems to me RTÉ will find it but just as long as they don't have to produce anything.

I knew it. Couldn't find it on Google.

She is paid from taxpayer money, and runs an organisation that is primarily funded by taxpayer money, and treated every one of us with contempt. She should have been hauled in for questioning, not invited. Hopefully she will get her comeuppance from this.

And to add... the money burn that was Late Late Toy Show the Musical, the extent of the losses RTE refuses to disclose to the Public Accounts Committee.

I’ve always said there are certain people on here who would forgive and excuse anything Tubridy does, and here they are all out again in full force. It’s amazing how similar their responses are. It’s almost as if they’re organized and coming from the same source…”intriguing”, as a certain one time good egg but now a bad egg is fond of saying.

“Separately, it has been reported that I did not take a pay cut over the last number of years. This is simply not true. Over the period of my contract with RTÉ, I have been asked to take several reductions in salary and I did. Indeed, between 2012 and today, my pay from RTÉ was cut by approximately 40%."

Not if you were secretly getting an additional 345,000 then no, you didn't take much of a paycut.

Whether I agree that he should give it back or not isn’t relevant. I don’t think he should though.

I have a feeling, however, that he will feel compelled to by public pressure, PR, etc.

I had never heard of NKM before reading some posts on here, sounds like this relationship needs to be seriously investigated.

Yes, I knew another statement was coming along these lines - I did not know, but I should have known and i apologise for my failure to do so... yada yada... now can I get back to my radio show, please. His arrogance and contempt for the public is breathtaking. Only an ardent fan or someone very gullible would believe this further self serving tripe.

Honestly I am not a FF supporter but trying to link to a political party is baffling to me.

I wouldn't be surprised if it emerges that he's a facilitator to divert money form the rte slush fund to our ever deserving betters.

So he's still trying to distance himself from the decision makers as if he was never in their gang, as if he played no role in organising the shady deals with the sponsors. He says he's sorry he didn't call out the discrepancies when published, but it wasn't his responsibility really. Laughable.

Jumping through loopholes is his speciality though. He has always operated in this grey area in which he's doing stuff that may not be illegal but is ethically questionable as far as public service is concerned. There should never have been a need for an RTE sponsor to pay a presenter directly. But as usual they muddy the waters to satisfy their greed. It should be very difficult for anyone to sympathise with him considering that this has always been how he operates - usually gets away with it but now he has found himself on the wrong side of a thin line.

His reference to his own "sincerity" in the statement is gas (a little like his self-appointed ToyMan moniker which only ever he uses). He's a product of an environment where these behaviours are common and it's obvious he cannot be trusted as a public servant.

I hope listeners tune out if he does come back on air. I don't think he'll last long either way.

So you're saying he lied in his statement today?

Or did he lie in yesterday's statement?

    They cannot be reconciled.

Did he do something wrong - by commission or omission - or not?

You can be certain that anyone following Uncle Gaybo made sure the same legendary fate would not befall them.

Yes, I would say he could be living month to month off a stipend, with everything else managed on his behalf. But I can't believe he would not be aware of how his gross earnings were negotiated including how they would be paid, and that they exceeded the limits / published detail year on year.

At the end of the day Ryan is the obvious beneficiary of all this. The unusual mechanism had to have been designed for his benefit, he must have been aware of it.

I said no such thing. I think you’re trying a little bit too hard to find a “gotcha” moment here.

I’m not endorsing what happened, RTE effed up.

Especially as he was a Director and Owner of the company used as the vehicle for all this.
