Not a good look. I wonder did he go because this was going to come to light?

How could they sack him if fairness. RTE were just as culpable,if not more so.
Can't really use him as a scapegoat.
I don't think she'd sue anonymous accounts online. It generally doesn't work that way. Perhaps a journalist.
Her statement was a complete cop out. Poor RTE awful times stuff.
Where?
He is not, it’s been widely reported that he’s not on next week at all.
It would be “delicious” if he was.
Too little too late. He is toast.
Bottom line for me is - will this issue result in a bloody good overhaul of RTE or will things continue more or less as they were following the usual suitable statements of explanation/regret from the Board?
It is the Silly Season, and Government goes on manoevres to its holiday spots, we are given stand ins for all the highly paid "presenters" until the schools go back, so I wonder what, if anything will result from this, other than losing RT to his podcast heaven.
100 percent the bollix will be back on the radio on Monday morning.
RTE should pay out his contract and get rid. Someone high up there needs to make that call amd save some face. The damage him being back on radio 1 on Monday will be ten fold.
He was born into RTE with a silver spoon up his arse.
"This includes pursuing a difficult cost cutting agenda as part of implementing a wider strategic agenda, all while navigating the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic."
Ms Forbes said he is proud of her contribution to RTÉ during her time as Director General.
If it wasn't for that pesky Covid ... 🙄🙄
Am I the only one not bothered by this, yes it should not have happened, it's lackadaisical management of the situation by RTE, and it would be far more interesting to hear from his management company than from Ryan Turbady himself.
Why don’t you fire away and test out your theory?
Dee Forbes strikes me as someone who'd sue someone for bullying her if she received any criticism.
Just listening to her statement, what corporate waffle.
I'll tune in ;)
10% of his salary is a disingenuous way of describing €345,000 of tax payers money.
Dee Forbes Statement. She "fully engaged" with the board on this regrettable issue, and that she always acted in publics best interest, etc.
Mentions the issue arose in April (not March as reported elsewhere I think) and that there were two payments, in 2020 and 2021, not more (I thought there were up to 5).
I still don’t think that he should apologise for anything.
Whether he disagreed and felt compelled to apologise for whatever reason doesn’t mean anything in regards to my own opinion.
My opinion being different from his definitely doesn’t mean that his statement was a pack of lies either. He and I aren’t the same person.
Basically RTE is great and she was great and will not be saying anymore
So he doesn't deny getting the money, knowing about the under reporting, or the scheme to get around the pay cut. His issue is it's RTÉ's fault for not giving the right figure.
Id happily take a 40% pay cut esp if I was getting refunded the cut.
It’s funny how the top up ensure his fees always topped the magical “€500,000” figure. It seems to be a cut off point of sorts, perhaps a line in the sand for Kelly and Tubs himself.
Lets not forget though, there was a time when Tubs was on over €700,000.
Cop out answers.
You said Tubridy did nothing wrong and had nothing to apologise for.
He comes out today and contradicts that:
I should have asked questions at the time and sought answers as to the circumstances which resulted in incorrect figures being published.
"I didn't, and I bear responsibility for my failure to do so. For this, I apologise unreservedly."
Do you agree with what he says or not?
Or do you think his statement today is an insincere pack of lies?
His family were high up in FF, Andrews is a cousin AFAIK.
Especially as he was a Director and Owner of the company used as the vehicle for all this.
I said no such thing. I think you’re trying a little bit too hard to find a “gotcha” moment here.
I’m not endorsing what happened, RTE effed up.
You can be certain that anyone following Uncle Gaybo made sure the same legendary fate would not befall them.
Yes, I would say he could be living month to month off a stipend, with everything else managed on his behalf. But I can't believe he would not be aware of how his gross earnings were negotiated including how they would be paid, and that they exceeded the limits / published detail year on year.
At the end of the day Ryan is the obvious beneficiary of all this. The unusual mechanism had to have been designed for his benefit, he must have been aware of it.
So you're saying he lied in his statement today?
Or did he lie in yesterday's statement?
They cannot be reconciled.
Did he do something wrong - by commission or omission - or not?
what statement has she given?
So he's still trying to distance himself from the decision makers as if he was never in their gang, as if he played no role in organising the shady deals with the sponsors. He says he's sorry he didn't call out the discrepancies when published, but it wasn't his responsibility really. Laughable.
Jumping through loopholes is his speciality though. He has always operated in this grey area in which he's doing stuff that may not be illegal but is ethically questionable as far as public service is concerned. There should never have been a need for an RTE sponsor to pay a presenter directly. But as usual they muddy the waters to satisfy their greed. It should be very difficult for anyone to sympathise with him considering that this has always been how he operates - usually gets away with it but now he has found himself on the wrong side of a thin line.
His reference to his own "sincerity" in the statement is gas (a little like his self-appointed ToyMan moniker which only ever he uses). He's a product of an environment where these behaviours are common and it's obvious he cannot be trusted as a public servant.
I hope listeners tune out if he does come back on air. I don't think he'll last long either way.
I wouldn't be surprised if it emerges that he's a facilitator to divert money form the rte slush fund to our ever deserving betters.
