What models and makes of cars would you consider iconic and a trendsetter for car design for the following decades?

I think the Volkswagen Golf has to be a very strong contender. Launched 50 years ago next year (yes, hard to believe!), the VW Golf ushered in the era of the hatchback and at its launch, the oil crisis helped shape the move towards more fuel efficient and compact cars.

What car model would you consider iconic? The Ford Model T? VW Beetle? The Austin Mini? Jaguar E type? Fiat 500?Toyota Corolla? The Tesla?

The Tesla Cybertruck will become iconic for just how grotesquely ugly it is. If it is ever released. It really sums up Musk’s micro dick energy.

So when he presents this childs drawing as a truck design, that is also genius. No, it's a disgrace to his brand and he would appear to be openly mocking his own customers proving that they will buy any crap he associates with.

I happen to think (and I’m far from alone) that every Tesla model produced so far are pretty ugly. And then you hear horror stories about the build quality in some of them. But this cybertruck really is impressively awful. There’s obviously no one at Tesla who can tell Musk that he’s an egotistical moron who really shouldn’t be involved in the design process.

I think the VW Golf is one of the most overrated cars ever made. There has been and never was anything brilliant or special about it.

You want something Iconic the Renault 5 is Iconic the Citroen DS is Iconic the Renault 4 is Iconic the Citroen 2CV is Iconic the Renault Scenic is Iconic and the MK 1 Ford Focus is an Icon.

The Toyota RAV4 is Iconic for starting the SUV trend even do KIA was first with the Sportage before Toyota much like how Alfa Romeo had a modern hatchback much in the shape of the Golf before the Golf so it should be the Alfa that gets that Iconic award.

A Golf is just a boring box on wheels for people with no imagination.

The early Golf's were a fun car to drive.

The Jag XJS has always floated my boat,or the Merc SLK I think it is,JR Ewing's model.

Ford Escort MK1

Small family car that was cheap to run, fun to drive and was driven by everyone from first time drivers to pensioners.

Was also the base for one of the best rally cars of it's era.

Special mention to the Cortina for pretty much the same reasons.

Saw a cortina on the road a while ago, couldn't believe how small it looked against modern day traffic. Father had one in the 80s as did so many others.
