I'm starting a new job in late April and was wondering if I can 'risk' it and give my new IE Revolut IBAN for salary payments instead of my AIB one?? Any advice?

It kind of depends on how long you can wait for a pay check... If there is a mistake and the money does not get to your account the employer could wait until it is returned to them before making the new payment. On the other hand, that could happen even with an old account to - someone in accounting makes a mistake. It often happens in onboarding new staff.

Are you sure it wasn't just the 12c government levy?

Revolut, unlike other Irish banks charge the 12c every time (capped @€5/yr) instead of charging all at once at the beginning of the year.

2 questions about revolut, if you don't mind.

    1) I'm customer for years now, and yet they haven't changed my iban to Ireland yet, they did almost everyone that I know, support told me that because I'm Portuguese my tax residency is Portugal and not Ireland, and yet I live here 8 yrs now, and actually never lived in Portugal before, they said they will look into and come back to me, and so far they didn't, at least not yet.

    2) CC application, my application gets denied immediately after I applied, my account used to be KBC and I had to move to BOI 2 months ago, is that the reason? I would like to move my both my CC from BOI which has 4k limit and my salary when I get the Irish Iban, is it possible to talk to a manager in Revolut like we used to in branches :) fews like AI revolut doesn't like me and it is blocking more than it should.

Doesn't sound right. I'm also a EU citizen (non-Irish), however, an Irish resident. But by IBAN was changed on Friday (a bit later than some of my friends/colleagues). If you login to the app, press your profile icon in the top left, go to Account and then Personal Details, make sure the address provided is Irish.

You won't get to talk to anyone in Revolut. I haven't applied with Revolut so not sure, but maybe that's because you haven't provided a PPSN. Either way, I would recommend getting a CC with Avant Money instead. Just make sure to read a difference between the One Card and Reward+ Card. If you want, you can open a free current account with EBS for your wages and direct debits. While Revolut could be used for other daily expenses.

My address has always been Irish one :( and I have my PPSN there too. Strange right? In the last 2 months they asked me to confirm the PPSN at least 3 times.

It was a straightforward 20c debit. The gov levy is charged annually up to e2.50 for atm transactions and another e2.50 annually if you use for POS etc The max that can be charged by card issuers is e5.00 annually. That has been my experience of other debit card issuers.Revolut would have to be different. Will try to find a statement to see if it was listed and how described.

Has anyone managed to make a payment to AIB Credit Card since switching to the Irish IBAN for your Revolut? I've tried the above and a load of others, and everything gets bounced back.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 5,028 Mod ✭✭✭✭G_R

No, same as that I've tried 3 different IBANs and all bounced back within a few hours.

Was able to transfer to my AIB current account no problem.

It's bouncing back because of the reference I'd imagine. Revolut can be odd about which field exactly gets sent as the reference - it should be the credit card number usually.

Has anyone else recently switched their salary to Revolut and applied for credit card?

I switched from Ulster Bank and last two salary payments have gone into Revolut without issue. Applied for CC with them and was denied due to insufficient proof of salary. Just wondering if anyone has been successful how many payments they could show going in. I don’t “need” a credit card so happy enough to wait if it’s only another couple of months. I’ve no other bank account so nothing to link to my Revolut.

I still haven't received my Irish IBAN yet at least three people I know whose accounts are newer then mine have been changed over. I use the account for wages then there's two other direct debits set up on it so I'm hoping this is sorted asap. I get payed weekly as well.

No, it’s not the reference. I’ve had the 16 digit card number as the reference on all transfers.

This IBAN thing is a nightmare. Revolut said the Lithuanian IBAN should still work for a month but seemingly the bigger problem is the IE one doesnt work. At all

Good to know I’m not the only one, but very frustrating. I’ve just spend half an hour on the phone to AIB, with them blaming Revolut, telling me they accept payments from anyone, and ignoring the fact that they are rejecting payments from me, and obviously from others. I can only suggest that you get onto both AIB and Revolut and try to knock heads together until they come up with a solution.

Try a transfer to an account you have control of and see does the reference come across correctly. As I mentioned, Revolut is quite finicky

I had this problem with Bunq when we switched over. Got Bunq to investigate and they said it was AIB rejecting the payment. Contacted AIB and they didn't want to know. I let it go because I could just pay from my Revolut but it's going to be a pain if this doesn't get fixed.

I sent a test payment this morning so I'll see how that goes.

That test payment was just refunded into my Revolut account. It says

"Completed· A technical error occurred during processing. Please try again later"

If anyone contacts AIB could they post back what they say? As I mentioned above, last time I contacted them about this in relation to my Bunq account they wouldn't even investigate why the payments where being reverted.

They said to me that it is a Revolut problem, despite confirming that multiple AIB customers have this problem.

That's nice. Did you try and test it since?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,043 ✭✭✭✭Mimikyu

Assuming they're just saying that and it is an AIB problem hopefully there's more chance of it being sorted because Revolut is a lot more popular than Bunq.

I was going to just not use the AIB credit card until it's sorted but noticed today that the government stamp duty was applied to it so I'll have to pay that off. I've an unused N26 account that I know definitely works for payments if needs be.

I rang AIB card services today and they informed me its most definitely an issue on Revolut's end.

I informed Revolut in their chat facility and they say they have now remedied the problem and attempt transfer again. I just have and will let you know tomorrow if it has been succesful.

A receiving bank can't investigate a transaction that did not arrive.... we can't have people going on fishing expeditions and to provide that level of service would mean staff would be able to access private and commercial data way outside the scope of their business. The public would be queue to protest at their data being available that way.

Revolut Bank is now making US Local Account Details available (for selected customers).

Revolut UK customers had this for a while.

Some users will see that their US Dollar Wallet now has local US account/aba routing number available in addition to the IBAN.

However, there seems to be a cost associated, it looks like 10$.

Way more expensive than Wise if that is true.

I guess there will be a Waiting List soon.

It does arrive though. It's a standard bank transfer. AIB get the bank transfer, inspect it, decide that it doesn't meet their rules, and send it back. It's their problem, their rules.

Revolut just told me on chat that it isn't yet sorted, which isn't reassuring. If you do manage to get through, please post details of which IBAN you use.

Moving to Revolut is now easier as Revolut now also supports the Irish Switching Code and it's all digital:

Terms are link are here: Account Switching - Ireland | Revolut IE

There are 2 Services under this

Automated PSD2 Account Switching Service which is using your existing online banking (via open banking) to find relevant data and the traditional regulated switching service with a form.
