Could you quote the part where she denigrated immigrants?

    How would they know?

Is there any other sportperson in the history of OTB that has been questioned on deleted tweets?

All the interviews are out there, I can't find one.

Why would they 'think it would come up'?

    Whoah, whoah there horsey!

Is this the tweet that you were referring to when you claimed that Kellie Harrington tweeted that immigrants were likely to be murderers?

    Seriously?

You need to have a word with yourself.

I would suggest a public apology from you to Kellie is in order, she's entitled to her good name.

How do I have a word with myself? Talk to my reflection in the mirror? What do you want me to say?

Anyway yes I take it from that thread she meant immigrants are more likely to be murderers of young girls and I'm not the only one who thinks that.

86% polled recently said there should be a limit to the amount of refugees Ireland can take. I can't think of any celebrity that shares that view. Amazing really!

The north inner city is virtually unrecognizable demographically in the last 20 years. Time to spread this wonderful diversity Southside where those who promote it are located.

Not specific to OTB, but in general - that somebody would eventually ask her about the deleted tweets. Public figures get asked about social media activity.

Because not everyone has the culture or training to deal with these situations, in the papers daily we see national party assholes all over inner city areas spreading fear and hate and misinformation (along with some actual information which muddies things for the locals) so then educated journo boy and his educated mates gave a go at an amateur athlete / hospital cleaner who literally works all day and night and is not sitting on her phone all day weighing up the different arguments

kellie saw an article about a brutally murdered child and reacted in a way she thought was human , but lacked the tools to see who she was endorsing

I personally am privileged with job and assess to info and education, in work alone I get trained in diversity, inclusiveness and equality , most trades people and service workers are not so lucky

Mountain ouha molehill nonsense..but no surprise. People obsessed with looking for issues..

More an issue I felt was her attacking Pete Taylor in her book....whingeing and moaning because Katie was excelling

Only one opinion on this subject allowed by the media

Also, I have no idea why people listen to Wolly, OTB, second captains or whoever. Every single one of em comes across a complete tosser

Is it your opinion that little girls should be murdered by immigrants?

Or that it is a price we should be willing to pay and governments should not be doing checks to find out who is entering their country?

Not very inclusive tweets?? Yes, she doesn't agree that a man in a dress should be able to get in the ring with her and give her brain damage. What a bigot!!

    Not on OTB though.

The shock jock found a ratings booster and went for it.

“Very, very sad. A powerful message from Eva Vlaardingerbroek. Our own leaders need to take a listen to this. She believes this is the 12th girl in France this year who has been killed by an immigrant.. And that’s just France.”

That's the tweet, what does she need to explain about that? What did you want her to say? "You're right Shane I was wrong to tweet that, dead women is the price we have to pay for multiculturalism. Bring it on!"

What’s that to do with her issues in the book? All I saw was bitterness and jealousy when reading those parts. Pete’s response was spot on

Nope, she is saying that in the influx of migrants we are allowing criminals in, and we need to do more to stop this.

You'd swear she was quoting Mein Kampf the way people are going on and twisting it.

Well from what I've read you're the only person that has written on a public forum that Kellie Harrington tweeted "that immigrants are likely to be murderers."

That's a very serious allegation to make against anyone.

You also went on to use the words, "dopey", "brought this on herself", "brain dead", "f**cking stupid", "she may never get another sponsorship now and it's entirely her own fault."

This is a real person you are running down, you might think you can write what ever you want without fear of repercussions but it doesn't work like that in the real world.

So should I expect to be arrested for calling a move made by a celebrity dopey on boards.ie or what will the repercussion be?

I don't think you should expect to be arrested but there are other repercussions that could result.

Look up the meaning of "libel" and "defamation".

You should also look up the meaning of "have a word with yourself".

"Stop asking questions, asking a question is bullying" is the new "just asking questions".

It's hard to know where to start with the transparent sham that is right wing internet "debating".

Kellie Harrington a sporting celebrity and the political opinions she expresses online are a matter of public record, even if they're deleted/redacted, so she should not be taking interviews unless she is ready to answer difficult questions about those opinions. If she doesn't want to discuss her political opinions, she should keep them to herself. A lot of people here seem to be under the mistaken impression that the prefix "sports" means that sports journalists and radio presenters are... well... not real journalists and radio presenters. That is completely false - their job is to ask questions, including difficult questions, of the people they are interviewing on any matter that is newsworthy. Kellie Harrington's views on immigration, like her community fundraising with Spar, are only newsworthy because she is a sporting celebrity. As such, this is well within the remit of a sports journalist/radio presenter to cover.

In summary, this was a fair question and her PR agent should have prepared her for it. Don't blame the media for doing exact what the media is there to do. Instead, blame her PR agent and especially blame Kellie herself for expressing opinions about a divisive/inflammatory issue. With a bit of luck, most people will see this as a novice mistake, the furore will blow over soon and she will learn from her mistake.

Are you saying that interviewers should make a judgement as to how well educated they believe an interviewee is and step up/down to meet what they believe the interviewees education and intelligence level is?

Was it OTB that had the famous Lance Armstrong interview?

yep, if she wants to express an opinion publically, and she's a public figure, she doesn't get to say 'i don't want to discuss my opinions publically'.

she could have just responded with 'look, it was a stupid tweet, i apologise, i'm trying to show that's not who i am'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Snooker Loopy

That was bullying. Lance Armstrong was bullied in that interview. It was a disgrace. Just like when anybody is ever asked a question. It's bullying.

Last week it was "proper journalism", this week it's "bullying".

Mad the way things change from week to week to week.

If the tweet did not reflect her views she could easily have said so when he asked her about it.

'It was stupid tweet, I didn't consider it fully and regret how it came acorss. Anyone who knows me.... blah blah blah'.

Instead he deflected and just kept saying it was months ago.... that isn't an answer. that isn't a defense. that isn't a denial. 'No answer' is frequently an answer.
