What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Zero chance of a red warning. Siobhan Ryan said as much on Drivetime.

As for Howth, no reason why the hill wouldn't see some snowfall overnight, but the coastal influence will hurt the extremity of course.

I'd be confident for the coastal fringes later the evening/tonight but the closer to the coast the later it's going to be. All depends on the wind direction. On the downside you lose some intensity when the wind goes offshore. Hard to call for a peninsula... Your chances are not certainly not dead.

    Cold out. 🥲 City centre.

Small grains of snow at the moment. A half hearted attempted at sticking now. We could do with that earlier heavier burst now, but you can be sure when it's turning colder the precipitation will be weakening

Between 11 and 12cm right now. Snow is really heavy at moment. Maybe an hour or so left. I am on the leeward side of a mountain which may have helped somewhat.

Spoke to somebody in Quin a few mins ago and it's snowing heavily there now after a day of cold rain.

Fingers crossed that we continue to avoid the snow in South Wicklow. Bit of sleet this morning was all we got really but the roads are clear which is the most important thing. Love some snow in winter but at this time of year it's like a fart in a spacesuit. Sooner we warm up now the better.

Us down here in Waterford must have done something to piss this weather system off, nothing but lashing rain all day 🙄 and it doesn’t look like it’s about to change to snow anytime soon!

Plenty of snow in Galway...started to change to proper snow about two hour ago a good layer of snow everywhere now including the roads...its as good as any snow you would get in the middle of winter

Pouring rain here in Meath, not a hint of sleet in it either.

I have that horrible feeling that once this eventually turns to snow precipitation will be alot lighter and more patchy but we shall see.

Which is a very good sign for the East later and why I think a red will be issued before morning for the East

Still raining and 2.8 degrees in Roundwiod Co wicklow 230m ASL. All this morns snow is gone. Hoping to see a big drop in temperature later. Winds picking up and coming from the North now

A lot more sleety in Kildare now and that wind is really howling

You must be joking? No way a red is warranted for the east tonight/tomorrow morning.

Think there is something up with the radar system in Ireland. Shannon on half power and Dublin almost out it seems.

A boardsie weather event thread bingo game wouldn't be complete without a @JanuarySnowstor prediction of a red warning in fairness. 😁😝

I'll come down to Cork with a box of fresh snow for you myself if you are correct but IMO - no chance of a red.

Nothing but rain in Gorey all day, live on elevated ground and the mountain near me had no snow this morning but some yesterday morning.

Hope it stays this way as I have an appointment in Kilkenny tomorrow afternoon and can't be dealing with uncertain roads.

Down to 3.3c at Howth and also a noticeably more northerly trajectory in the wind direction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,476 ✭✭✭highdef

Yes, radar is not very helpful at the moment. Infrared satellite is more accurate for some areas at the moment, most especially the further west you go. You can see here that the back end of the front is still quite a bit away from reaching the western seaboard, which explains why we're getting posts saying heavy snow in the likes of Galway even though the radar seems to suggest otherwise.

Looks like your not far away from the action at this point, another hour or two?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,753 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

Not expecting much overnight in North Dublin. Well nothing other than more of this muck at least.

The transition is definitely starting in north county Dub. Lot more sleet in the mix now.

My weather station has gone from 10c to 3c in the last 2 hours in Cork. Impressively quick drop. I've had 41mm of rain so far today too
