Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Are you still at it, Mellor?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,233 ✭✭✭carrollsno1

Unfortunatly not, i succumbed to scurvy in the end and ive went vegan in the meantime as animal based/carnivore is bullshit.

Disregard the piece above, ive been fairly animal based/carnivore since tbe 03/01 however i have a family emergency at the moment here andci was planning on doing a 60 day update next week however thats not going to happen right now. I will be looking at significantly reducing dairy intake in the future an im not gonna lie there was a few drinking sessions aftercthe 30 day point which will not have done my progress any favours. I will update in the coming weekscwhen this passes over.

Righto guys im back. Unfortunatly in February my mother took a turn for the worst and passed away in March so i had a fair bit to be dealing with over the last 10 weeks. Between hospitals, wakes and dealing with bereavement this endeavour got pushed to the wayside. I have been training fairly consistently (running, swimming, spinning, bike) since before patricks day and have even done my first 5km and 10km road race since then and Triathalon season is just around the corner now too. Despite going back onto the standard western diet the last 10 weeks ive felt slimmer more confidence in myself the usual and even got remarks that i was heading in the right direction too. However the tape and scale dont lie and i was putting off getting back to it but decided on this week and i pulled out the tape and scale this evening.

    Shoulders 55, up 2 inches

    Neck 18, up 1/2 inch

    Waist 43 up 2 inches

    Gut 45 up 3 inches

    Chest 45 up 2 inches

Rh quad 25 up 1 inch

All gone the wrong direction however were still not quiete back to where we were at the start of January thankfully. I knew the weight wasnt going to drop over the last 10 weeks but thought i would at least maintain it or maybe go up 1 or 2kg with the training regime being fairly consistent however i was shocked to see the scale go from 128kg up to 134kg over the last 10 weeks. It really does go to show you cant outrun a bad diet. Tomorrows the first day back at it and hopefully i can get a good long run at it this time round. All feedback welcome, off to cook some duck eggs and bacon for tomorrows breakfast now.

A week in now, any updates @carrollsno1 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,233 ✭✭✭carrollsno1

Not fully a week in yet Tuesday would be a week done fully, however ive just done my measurements since you posted.

    Weight is down 2kgs

    Shoulders 54 down 1

    Neck 17.5 down .5

    Waist 42 down 1

    Gut 43.5 down 1.5

    Chest 44 down 1

    Rh Quad 23 down 2

After 5 days thats 2kgs down as well as 7 inches lost too not bad going i would say. I even had a few Guinness 0.0s the last two nights which is not strictly animal based in the slightest.

A typical day so far looks to be between 2000-2500 calories consumed with some form of cardiovascular excercise in the evenings. Typical days macros are protein 178g(33%) fat 132g (56%) carbs 58g (11%) the %is the %of calories consumed that day. The weekend was a bit looser to be fair and i did consume some fairly fatty dairy foods yesterday which has caused a bit of an upset too. Ive not had any fruit so far its just been ruminant meat, eggs both duck and hen however ive a preference for duck eggs, bacon and tea i also had the least bitvof honey through the week also.

I spent €45 at the butchers this on friday for a 12 duck eggs, 1lb butter, 5 good thick steaks and a pack of liver. I also picked up 15kg of venison burgers for €30 this weekend too which will ease up on the spending a bit every week too hopefully.

Just shy of two weeks in now. In the past 7 days im down 2.5kg however i didnt lose much inches wise. Figures as of today

    Weight 130kg down 4.5kg

Neck 17.5 same as last week

Waist 42 same as last week

Gut 43.5 same as last week

Chest 44 same as last week

    Shoulders 52.5 down 1 5

RH quad 23 same as last week.

Total loss so far in 4.5kg and 8.5 inches. Had a fairly tough triathalon this morning im going to break for tonight and enjoy a few handy pints this evening. Not looking for a lecture on how alcohol isnt animal based.

I will not discourage you from this diet. I will only say that the human body needs amino acids. Some of them are irreplaceable. And some of them can only come from plant foods. Research this issue. Perhaps you need a plant-based dietary supplement.

@MickyBest quick google search on that shows that animal proteins such as meat, eggs and milk are classed as complete proteins as they contain all 9 essential amino acids required by our bodys. Plant based sources of protein such as nuts, beans and legumes do not contain all 9 essential amino acids and are classed as non complete proteins. Ive been listening to several podcasts over the last week on this topic and i have yet to hear anyone mention taking a plant based supplement in any of them. Soms of the guests on the podcasts have been living this way for years so there is a fair timescale to work with.

Yes, you can get all 9 essential amino acids from meat, lean or not, and fish or eggs. The other 11 amino acids can be made by the body using the 9 essential that the body cannot make. If you have the 9 essential in your diet, you should have the 20 in total available to you.

So beef, eggs, bacon, butter, other ruminant meats and water should have (it has) me firing on all cylinders.

All right, so be it. I learned something new, too.

What about the potassium? That's also a very important component. Is there enough of it in animal foods?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,233 ✭✭✭carrollsno1

Another quick google shows theres 500mg of K in 100g of beef..... i did a quick google for you on getting magnesium included in this way of eating, enough can be found in beef.

Meats and fish are also a source of potassium. If not getting enough was a worry, you could cook with/use lo-salt instead of normal salt as it contains 50% potassium.

Yeah i'd probably just look at electrolyte supplements when not eating carbs as you lose a lot of stored water without glycogen.

Well, if there's butter, I'm not worried about you. I wonder how your challenge will end :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,233 ✭✭✭carrollsno1

Not really a challenge to be honest. I dont see it as one and if i did i reckon it would be harder manage it. Whats challenging about eating bacon and eggs as well as nice fatty cuts of red meat really? They dont need seasoning, think about it any starchy carbs i.e. potato, rice and pasta you need to season it with sauces, butter or cook it with meat to make it some way appealling thats more of a challenge making those types of food appealing.

6 eggs and 4 streaky rashers at 10, a striploin and a venison burger that needed to be used up at 1 had a training session tonight covered 5km my Garmin says i burned 575 calories. Got held up till nearly 11 o clock with a visiting relative and i wasnt going to face into cooking at this hour, not really feeling hungry anyway this might become a regular thing yet. Hard to believe im not hungry after that training session i have two sessions tomorrow evening so it will hardly work tomorrow evening.

It's a good thing I don't eat potatoes and pasta :) But I like to add meat and gravy to rice. And sometimes I like to add soy sauce. It complements the rice well.

I eat eggs and meat a lot too!

No update for last week as the results would ve skewed. Went for pints saturday night and in my hungover sorry state of mind yesterday evening i had a pizza. Im bloated, inflamed and even still feeling sick after eating that this evening still. Definitly not worth it.

    This weeks figures

    Neck 17.5 no change

    Waist 41 down 1

    Gut 43 down .5

    Chest 43 down 1

    Shoulders 53 up .5

    RH Quad 24 no change

    Weight 131 kg

Had a few drinks over the weekend nothing overly excessive and thankfully no carb loaded meals over the week at all after last weekends **** up.

Going to aim for the 2000 mark calorie wise this week to try get progress on dropping weight sustainably. Im listening to a lot of the Revero Podcasts the last fortnight or more the main take home from that is 1-2lb of ruminant meat per day plus a few eggs so ill work off of that. Also going to start getting in a few weight training sessions through the week as despite all the cardio its not working wonders right now as well as not getting massive NEATs with work at the moment. Also set a few goals in terms of events i want to partake in before the year is out to set myself up for next years events so that should add a bit more motivation.

Last week was more or less 1-1.5lbs of beef between 1-2pm then 6 duck eggs and maybe a few rashers depending on the day in the evening time. Caloric intake would generally be 2000-2100 calories daily. Im feeling great have great energy and a bit more drive in me too when it comes to training aswell.

    Weight 132.5 up 4

    Neck 17 no change

    Waist 42 up 1

    Gut 42 no change

    Chest 44 no change

    Shoulder 51.5 down 1.5

Still feeling good but should have seen a bigger weightloss so far. I reckon i will cut down/out eggs and eat more beef in its place. Clothes fitting better, im getting way stronger and faster at swimming and running i completed a 5 mile last weekend in an hour bang on which im very happy with my avg pace has improved by 1:02/km compared to the last race similar distance i did back in April when i was eating ****. Definitly notice the inches gone in the shoulders in a photo taken crossing the finish line and i could go into a chain of clothes shops yesterday and found something that actually fitted me well too. Coach said im flying it and looking a bit leaner too. Im off to smoke a brisket now.

    Progress photos in this one

    Weight 131.5kg

    Neck17.5 up .5

    Waist 41.5 down .5

    Gut 43.5 up 1.5

    Chest 43.5 down .5

    Shoulders 51 down .5

    RH Quad 24.5 down .5

Up and down again all over the place at the minute had a wedding last week so this WOE wasnt adhered to greatly as well as a fair consumption of alcohol through the week. Getting back into it after that week off however its summer and its the first summer ive had to enjoy out of the last 4 and you could even throw in a southern hemisphere summer too just before i got home where i didnt give myself a break at all. Im not going to pass up pints at the weekends this time if year especially with the fine weather but will remain fairly disciplined other wise. Have a solid training routine going at the moment now, it had me out doing a 10km run friday night thats become part of the training regime now and back in january i had aimed to complete one 10km event over the year which i did in April when i was after falling off the wagon.

Right heres the photos, say what ye want and be honest im not going to be offended.

    14/05/23

    11/06/23

Exact same clothes only difference is the runners and socks in the photos.
