Got a question for the group.

I've finished off my 3rd bottle of Black Bush. In my opinion it's a very tasty but steady everyday whiskey. I like it and have bought a few over time

I've also bought black barrel, green spot, 3 swallows and redbreast 12 repeat times. They're my regular bottles in my cabinet.

What are people's regular bottles that they always keep stocked and in their cabinet?

I know there's variables like gifts, airport shopping and holidays etc but I always have at least 2 of the 5 bottles in the cabinet at all times.

Yep, duty free prices and a limit of one litre (that I haven't seen enforced)

They only really care about smugglers trying to make a profit. Bringing a few litres extra won't really warrant any attention.

My absolute staples are plain old Jameson and Johnnie Walker Double Black. The Double Black is peated, but only lightly so, and usually cheap in duty free. Very nice whiskey for the price

I like my peat, and always have a Laphroaig and/or Lagavulin open

For Irish, I've usually got a Redbreast too, and often Tullamore DEW as well, I think that's a very underrated whiskey for the price

For me it's Bushmills 10 when reduced in Tesco, Green Spot, RB12, and like @Electric Nitwit I like to have an Islay or two open. If Aldi were ever doing their Irish Reserve 12yo again, I'd stock up.

Laphroaig 10, Talisker 10, Lagavulin 16 and Eagle Rare 10 are probably my most frequently re-stocked whiskies.

Going forward I think it's likely I will always have a Glenallachie on hand.

    Supermarket battle.

The Aldi is one of the creamiest and buttery i have tasted. Shades of a cream liqueur even. Fairly straightforward and a nice one to start with. The Tesco is hotter and spicier and is also fruitier like a Solero exotic ice cream. The PX finish registers, in a nice way but a very light way. It isn't prominent like the Boann PX I Love You (which I like).

Both good - I slightly prefer the Aldi.

Our everyday whiskey, that we always have open and a couple of bottles on standby - bought when on special - is Powers Gold Label. There isn't a better pound for pound whiskey out there when it's being sold at 22EUR/700ml

Apart from that, I always have a peated scotch open, and a Speyside usually sherry finished.

I havea good few whiskies open but I would always have a spare of Powers Three Swallows and Gold Label, a spare of Laphroig 10 and a Bunnahabhain 12

Powers Gold label is generally what i'd have there as the budget sipper, redbreast12 is usually there too but at the moment i have a ferncullen 14, Powers John's lane and Tyreconnell 15 madeira open for my occasional drink.

Powers and Bush esp Black always ahead of Paddy and Jameson for me in regular tipple dept .That Tesco Finest Single Irish Malt is great so Aldi must be brilliant .

Spirits allowance 1Litre returning from UK and twice that entering . I didn’t get impression ferry port customs were that bothered by it though on recent trip .

Alas I think that Aldi 12yo Special Reserve has gone to whiskey bottle heaven :(

Not sure if the Tesco Finest Single Malt has been restocked post xmas sale so it might have joined it.

    For my always available:

I'll usually have Green or Yellow Spot on the go, or Red Breast 12.

And then I've recently started to pick up Powers Gold Label or Three Swallows (especially with how frequently the latter can be picked up for €30 or so)

Almost always have these on hand: Redbreast 12, Roe & Co, Lagavulin 16, Talisker, Jameson... plus either Makers Mark or Woodford Reserve.

Anytime they are on special, I'll generally have Johnnie Walker Black Label and Connemara too.

When I can get them, also Dalmore 12 Red Spot (both can be tricky to get at times - so can Lagavulin 16, come to think of it)

Hmm... seems quite a lot when written down like that 😏

Always have Dark Silkie and Black Bush. Also nearly always have a bottle of Havana 7 but I'm a bit overstocked with rum at the minute.

Green spot, jameson black barrel and velvet cap triple cask are three of the open bottles I currently have, and are the only ones I intend to restock for now.

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10 Year Old, Johns's Lane, Redbreast 12 and Rittenhouse Rye would be my staples, when I can get them, particularly Port Charlotte and Rittenhouse tend to be airport buys.

Try the Black Barrel Proof. It's really nice.

I didn't know about it, but there's a higher ABV again, at barrel strength, but only available at the distillery I think.

Have been trying West Cork Black cask recently. V enjoyable. Can't help but describe it as a "thin" version of Jameson Black barrel however. V similar flavours, but lacks the creamy velvetiness of the Jameson.

But for €30, very good value and would recommend.

Roe & Coe here blended version bought in Dunnes as a special offer for Christmas (28E normally 44) 45% nice smooth taste ?

I had the west cork cask strength and dundalgan single malt stout cask over the last few months. I get the same note in both that I just can't stand. I would have said it was a bad bottle if I didn't get it across 2 very different bottling. Like a dank grassy taste in the palate. Does anyone else get it. I don't like it but maybe someone else would

Just opened a bottle of the Black Barrel Proof, it's gorgeous, really easy to drink. Really reminds me of back in the day when Jameson had the 1780 and the 12yr old which were always regulars on my shelf, hopefully they'll make this a regular as I think since they've been gone there's been a big gap between the bog standard releases and the premium pot stills which they could really fill if they wanted to.

Have you had the Jameson Single Pot Still release? How does that compare?

A rare Saturday night off from the bar, got a gift of this for Christmas.

It's on my list of bottles to get, but still working my way through the Christmas supplies! Was mad keen to get it when I heard it came out but the complete lack of buzz around it has me a bit worried, have seen hardly anything about it.

I got a bottle of the Single Pot Still Jameson yesterday. Impulse purchase in Supervalu, as I noticed it was €57 and thought that was decent a price.

I tried it along side Black Barrel Proof, and preferred the Black Barrel.

It's still a nice whiskey though.

I'll be interested in trying this.

Fair play to Powers, their offerings are generally good value especially when on offer.
