I heard yesterday from someone they only called the first three from Batch 1 yesterday so I think it might be too early to tell

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 ZXCVBNMNB

If someone asks for an updated number can they let us know here? I am interested to see at intervals how fast they are moving as my current contract will end soon but don't want to spam them!

Ooh, I just got sent a "skills matching" link, to do a survey from public jobs - this is promising! "The purpose of this survey is to assist with skills matching for assignments should you be successful in reaching that stage."

Hi all, I got the skills matching link as well so I decided to give PAS a call. They’ve called the first three into clearance. I am in the early 30’s in batch 1 and they said that things are moving slowly but to expect 2 to 3 months to clearance. Disappointing news but fingers crossed that they move more quickly than expected.

Good to know. I'm happier for things to move slowly TBH, as I'm in a permanent role already and not in a rush to move. It will all depend on the department/unit they offer whether I move or not

Hi everyone. I got the skills matching link too. Just wondering is it something they require you to do. Has it been done in past competitions?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 ChV

I also received the skills matching link.

Let's see if things get faster, it's quite hard to commit to new projects or plan ahead in my current role having the uncertainty on when they'll call for clearance/ask for references.

I'm also a bit confused with the skills matching test for the general competition as it looks like they might be looking for some specific backgrounds, which seems to contradict the competition being "general" and what was said before in this thread that the first assignment tends to be random.

Skills matching makes sense, although it does seem to be a new thing (not that I'm an expert, but I've never heard of it before). Hopefully it's effective

I’m confused by the skills matching, I understand why it would be useful but this just seems to ask whether you would be able to work as a specialist AO which none of us applied for.

I’m also quite worried to hear that it might take three months before they call the early 30s of Batch 1 just for clearance. This seems quite out of line with other years. Are they trying to say people with these skills will be placed quicker? All my prior work has been in one of these areas but I was looking forward to a fresh start in a new field through this job.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 corcaigh97

Yeah I really don’t understand the process either. My friend started as AO last year, however, and did have the skills matching but was actually placed in an area that his skills didn’t fully align with I feel? Also re the 3 months comment, I was a little thrown by this as well because when I asked last month they said that it would likely be early February so there seems to be a big difference between the two?

PAS hate giving out timelines because they don't actually know, so I think they're vague on purpose. I wish they would be consistently vague though. Either of those things could be true, or neither! I'm just trying to keep plugging away and not think about it.

I guess the 3 months comment could be more referring to actually getting clearance and starting the job, rather than the initial contact. Hopefully things will move a bit quicker than that but it seems like they've just started this batch so I won't be holding my breath.

Hi, i have my interview coming up shortly and i wanted to ask is the AO interview similar enough to the EO interview? Any major differences (apart from the presentation)?

  • Registered Users Posts: 40 BigElmo

Mostly the same. The major difference is emphasis on your knowledge/interest/understanding of current affairs and government policies.

Can anyone explain how the presentation stage of the interviews work (never done a presentation as part of an interview). I have an AO interview coming up which includes a presentation but you don't share your screen with the interview panel. I assumed you would, so they could see your slides etc?

  • Registered Users Posts: 40 BigElmo

You share your screen for the presentation. Some people don't do a PowerPoint and only talk - don't do this. 😁 there's info in the pre-interview booklet. You have 10 minutes to present; it will be uninterrupted but they will kindly warn you about your time remaining at 9 minutes.

When you finish they'll ask you questions related to the competencies in the booklet. The booklet might list the specific competencies measured in the presentation and interview, but the overall score is given as one score.

Hi @BigElmo Thanks for the quick reply. This is what the email said which doesn't seem to line up with what you have said. "You will have up to 5 minutes to address the interview board on the presentation topic, followed by clarification with the Board for up to 5 minutes. You are not permitted to use any electronic aids (PowerPoint, etc.). or Flipcharts; nor are you allowed to share your screen"

I would like to add that this interview is not for the AO general campaign which this thread is dedicated to. It is an AO role though so i thought this thread would still be relevant.

  • Registered Users Posts: 40 BigElmo

Ah. This thread is the AO general competition.Which stream/position is this?

Just prepare to talk for 5 minutes. Use a note pad, cue cards, or PowerPoint on your own side (privately) to help focus your speech.

  • Registered Users Posts: 156 ✭✭mtb_sends

@BigElmo It's the Revenue AO ICT competition. For a range of ICT positions in Dublin, Limerick and Castlebar I think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 ZXCVBNMNB

I'm not sure if it helps anyone but a friend of mine also in the competition asked on Monday to see if there was much progress on Batch 1.

They said they had asked the first 5 for clearance and couldn't say how long it would take to reach her number.

I see 450 people were called to interview in the general AO 2021, but how many of those people were actually offered a job does anyone know? And what are the prospects for this year if only 5 people have been called for clearance by 1st Feb? 60?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 ChV

I think there's no point in speculating on dates, it's only good to have in mind the OOM they're at the moment.

I guess there could suddenly be more demand coming in during certain weeks and less during others.

What is true is that looking at the 2021 thread, it seems they were going faster. I'll forget about it for now, just wondering if they'll reach similar OOMs to 2020 and 2021 or this time they'll call fewer people from this panel. We'll see.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 ZXCVBNMNB

I would imagine they will still take the same number of people over the course of the year, there are still lots who will retire each year who need to be replaced. I would also imagine they wouldn't have called Batch 2 for interview so soon if they didn't anticipate demand. Hopefully departments will start requesting new AOs soon!

In the meantime, whenever anyone hears an update to the OOM it would be great to post updates here as it will give everyone a little more foresight. I wish there was some little live countdown ⏳️

I'm around 020 on batch 1, and have filled out a skills assessment but not been called for clearance. They have been very vague with potential timelines, does anyone know where they are at at the moment?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12 ZXCVBNMNB

At last I heard, they had called up to OOM 5 on Monday

IS the AO Graduate Development Programme still running for new recruits

Hi there! I just had my interview towards the end of last week from batch 2. Anyone any idea when we're likely to hear results?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 ChV

In general they give results within 1-2 weeks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 278 ✭✭BhoyRayzor

Should be, seen an email going around in July/August that DPER were looking for candidates for the 2022/2023 programme.

Hey all, does anyone have an idea of up to what OOM they have called for clearance so far?
