Oh I know the whole thing has time travelled invovled. I meant that they wont undo the battle scene or something.

I'm fully expecting Chakotay to turn up next

When you think of it the story is very similar to what the Xindi wanted to do in Enterprise the only difference being that the Xindi were influenced by an outside race from the future and the Xindi were trying to stop starfleet and the Federation from ever happening in the first place. Here the race wanting to destroy statfleet have travelled back to the past.

    Very true @AMKC

    But the storyline worked

Although I dont understand why the nacelles and windows all turned red?

Some shots of the Enterprise E.

Then this last one of the getting taken apart.

It's because it's basically a children's show after all and Red means bad. So just showing that them ships have all gone bad.

Anyway getting back to the ships I am hoping we see more ship classes in the next episode hopefully

How cool was it to see the E there do?

Yeah was cool and seeing some cool changes nic ships again like the Defiant, Centaur and Sovereign. Surprised the Excelsior didnt show up!

I would have liked to see some more Galaxy Class and California class.

Am I right in thinking we havent seen any Miranda Class ships? Finally retired or were they in Lower Decks?

Funny how early talk of this series, not here but online, was criticism and commenting on it being a kids show. And now people are analysing every little detail of scenes. 😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,034 ✭✭✭✭Stark

It would be quite something if a kid's show featured the canonical demise of the Enterprise-E.

As an aside, there's an account on Instagram which features Admiral Janeway's logs every week. It's a really good accompaniment to the show.

So I just rewatched most of that episode again. I really don't know why the Admiral did not contact the Captain of the ship she was on as soon as the ensign gave her the communicator to tell him to not open comms with the Protostar and to tell all other ships the same and it would have stopped the predicament they are now in from happening.

It will be interesting to see how it is solved or will there be a cliffhanger at the end of the season with the TBC for next season?

Yes I was partially right about how they could solve it stop the red swirly thing lol. I forget what it's called already.

This is a really good episode and it's also quite sad but quite good in a way too. Ye go Gwenalda and go Dal.

A nice link to the future too which I think some here have guessed already.

I kind of guessed who the 5 would be it's very obvious if you pay attention over the two episodes.

Enjoy. I certainly did enjoy it.

It is all nicely set up for next season now too.

Through a message from Chakotay, the episode establishes that the events which concluded with the original crew of the USS Protostar ending up stranded on Solum in a now alternate future, took place 52 years from 2384, thus in 2436.

Enjoyable episode but a SMALL bit anticlimactic.

No review on trekmovie for episode yet, may edit this post with a link later.

When Is The Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 Release Date?

While Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 has been confirmed and in development, there is no news of when it will begin streaming. Following the time gaps between Part 1 and Part 2 of Season 1, we can speculate it could possibly premiere at the end of 2023, or sometime early 2024. ~~ https://decider.com/2022/10/27/star-trek-prodigy-season-2-season-1-return/

Nice finale, wrapping things up, but leaving enough open for a second season, in case they were cancelled.

Weird thinking that was only season 1 considering how long it took to air. Started October 2021 and only finishing it's 20th episode now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,929 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

    ** SPOILERS **

Ah I wouldn't call it anticlimactic. They could only do so much with the runtime without leaving even more threads for season 2.

We got the big battle last week. This week was about the characters and heart of the show while still in a simpler kid friendly framework.

Really enjoyed it with some nice resolutions for each of the crew (including Dal's awkward moment last episode!) , and I'll put money on Janeway's much bigger plan involving a 74656-A 😁 seeing as she specifically gets to pick the ship to go through the new wormhole.

It's been a great season all round. I'd actually put it above Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds as the best follow up to proper Trek we've seen yet.

As a season finale, I thought it fairly solid and well handled. The major dramatic points weren't dragged out or done in heavy handed manner. The shorter run time may help in that regard. And it gives half the episode over to the fallout and follow-up, something that was a major omission in Voyager ironically. The only major quibble I could have is about the shuttle and it's sudden, unspotted arrival. But that passes quickly, as does any annoyance from it, and it appears to have been for the sake of an ST:IV reference.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

Well. That's season one. From where they started to where they are now, that was fun! 🙂

20: Damn the fleet really took a beating! Guessing that the story is sticking with that and starfleet had to lick their wounds.

Holo Janeway gone but Admiral Janeway still there. It's wierd. It still feels like a loss. The holo characters and their independence has been built up enough for me over multiple shows, arcs and episodes for them to feel like their own independent lives.

Glad Gwyn was after deciding to go look for her people. I'd been worried the academy might have been blaming her just for being Vau N'Akat or her fathers daughter.

Future! Yes season two has to be 100% at this point. Easy to see the big story they'll be getting into for it.

Rescue Chakotay and possibly.. or later.. save the Vau N'Akat

I did think the shuttle appearing like that was a "but how" moment... but also.. it was one month later and I wouldn't put it past them have a flashback episode in the future.

The last point I kinda liked was .. towards the end.. how Starfleet HQ on Earth was like an extended grand-aul-stretch sunset 🙂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,728 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

Holo Janeway got a good send off.

Interesting that they are keeping the fleet losses. I was expecting timey wimey shenanigans.

A decent end to a decent season, and nicely set up for season two.

    Zeros new look is cool.

RIP Hologram Janeway. Had a lump in my throat. One of those emotional farewell moments that felt earned. Though we never actually did see the ship blow up afaik so there's an opening there to find the Protostar somewhere in the alternative future if they do choose to bring her back.

Not sure why they commissioned non-experimental Protostars. The technology seemed a bit flaky/dangerous compared to quantum slipstream. Though I guess quantum slipstream has the requirement for benamite crystals which might limit its usefulness.

Overall a very satisfying series, I hope we don't have too long to wait for season 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,728 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

Does seem bit early to leave the experimental status.

So is there another protostar out there in the alternate timeline or has that been accounted for?

All eyes on Kursk. Slava Ukraini.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,635 ✭✭✭corkie

Alternative timelines, but not double protostar?

Interestingly, Chakotay's timeline is explicitly called an "alternate future" in the episode. Considering that the actions of the Diviner and the Vindicator have definitely changed the past, including the destruction of many Starfleet ships, Chakotay may arrive on a totally different Solum, under the assumption that first contact between the Federation and the planet will not happen or will be completely different. https://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/treknology/timetravel-pro.htm

Is Chokotay in an alternate timeline do or the Prime Timeline as he had already gone to the future before the events that happened in Prodigy Supernova oarts 1 and 2.

I suppose them events happening could change the future Chokotay is in now or because he was already there maybe not and they go off on a different branch to creat another future one where the Federation never come into contact with Solum so the Diviner and co never try to go back into the past to destroy the Federation or Starfleet so you go round in circles lol. OK I will stop now.

Yes, you could Rattle Your Brain trying to figure out the cause and effect when time travel is involved.

Doesn't really explain the alternative timelines.

Just binged 11-20. Good show overall. Plenty of scope for Season 2, The Search For Chakotay, Ascencia and Dreadlok still out there.

Some of the plot points were a bit face palm, like when Dal body swapped, he should have made some sort of better effort to act like Janeway and call off the attack. Morse code came up, something on the Protostar could have been set to flash code at the Dauntless I would have thought, or a ship like what they used to escape could have ejected one of them who could have tried to explain why they can't talk to the Protostar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,034 ✭✭✭✭Stark

A lot of facepalm moments in the body swap episode alright. But I suppose at the end of the day, it's still a show about kids and it would probably be more unrealistic to expect them to be fully adult competent. Especially without Training Hologram Janeway supervising them like in the case where Dal was on his own on the Dauntless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,284 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

So even though season 2 is in post production, this has been cancelled and now they're trying to find a new home for both seasons, as the first one seems to be getting pulled by Paramount+ as well.

The surprising decision to remove the series—which will mean a tax write-off for the streamer, a tactic we’ve also seen recently from Disney+ and Warner Bros.—affects a handful of other Paramount+ series beyond Prodigy, including ....

Shame about that, at least season 1 was a self contained season, if a tax write-off does that mean Nickelodeon won't be able to show it either, unless a new buyer takes it of P+?

Edit:- Nickelodeon is owned by Paramount.

We will probably never find out if they managed to save Chakotay from the alternative future?

Edit 2:- Garrett Wang reportedly said Harry Kim's character "belongs" to Star Trek: Prodigy, which he said is the reason his Picard season 3 role was cut.

Gutted, was really looking forward to season 2. Hopefully it gets picked up. Maybe Nickelodeon will pick it up? They carried season 1 didn't they?

Half-way through the first season and this is a shame. Getting very sick of these networks pulling shows from their services and canning seasons that are already made (such as 'Snowpiercer' which has its fourth season ready to air but has been shoved away). Hopefully the Trek name will attract some interest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,143 ✭✭✭ilovesmybrick

Yeah, real pity with that. Did not expect the series to grow on me as much as it did, and the early episodes were rough. But it turned out to be a grand show to have on in the background doing other stuff. Grand story and short episodes.

Awe that's a pity. Can not see it going anywhere else as it is Star Trek and ever since that fan made debacle a few years back Paramount are very Strict in who can make Star Trek now.

Star Trek: Prodigy series has not only been cancelled ahead of its previously-announced second season, but the show will in fact be removed from Paramount+ and Nickelodeon entirely. ~~ https://blog.trekcore.com/2023/06/star-trek-prodigy-cancelled-paramount-plus-removal/

    Paramount owns Nickelodeon.

They might sell the rights to stream, the first two seasons. But not the rights to produce more.

Literally just started showing it to the kids as a Trek gateway.

They bloody love it. Screw you anyway Paramount

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,755 ✭✭✭Inviere

I'm three episodes in....it's very 'kidish'. I've come directly in from Picard Season 3 and Lower Decks Season 3, so this is very Nickelodeon in comparison. The Protostar is absolutely beautiful I'll say that. Does the show improve?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,250 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Yes it does. It never gets too heavy but does stay very engaging.

It's still getting settled and establishing things by that point. It has some surprisingly dark elements later on.

This is an idiotic decision. This is the gateway for a whole generation to Trek and they sh1tcan it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,050 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

This thing of a show having to be removed as well as cancelled is a joke.

It's hard enough when a show you like is cancelled but to make it so that you can't even watch it again sucks.

I was saying over on a Discovery thread that Paramount is rumoured to be in a fair bit of trouble.

Bloody hell, the ending of the 2nd last episode. This show is far more respectful of kids than any crap my kids watch.

They are now massive fans, my son spent the episode pointing out ships which looked like "evolved" (thanks Pokemon for destroying the meaning of that word) versions of the Conny Class.

I know that Paramount is struggling badly but their drive for quarterlies is sacrificing the next generations of Trek fans here.

Indeed - this is the downside of streaming services. You don't own anything and your favourites can be removed at any point and physical copies may/may not be available either.

Always good to have a few chips lying about the place just in case.

Just read this on Google a few minutes ago.

Absolutely gutted. I thought when the era of streaming began that the days of good shows being cancelled was over but it is actually worse.

If the streamers would stop making that “reality” garbage they’d have the money they need now. And Igers nonsense about Marvel Disney+ shows distracting the creatives from movies - they are all being made by different people.

I would say it is worse because there is more shows than ever and people have more choice and so of course some shows are not going to do well and are unfortuntely some are going to get cancelled.
