Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Saw a horse grazing in my estate the other day. It was sunny so looked weirdly picturesque. A wild west sort of feeling.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭vixdname

They got shot twice up there ? FFS what did they do, go back a second time and get shot again ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Imagine having bought one of the houses in this estate and looking out at this........3 horses tethered up..........water bucket and all..........

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Jarhead_Tendler

You would be fairly disgusted alright.

That area was all landscaped and everything. Shocking what they are doing up there. They couldn't give a damn about anything.

I saw some other planning permission signs up that area too so they will start running out of area to take over for horses soon enough.

They'll probably just move into the grassy areas inside other estates then I suppose.....

Be in peoples lawns after that - a certain section of Irish society can do as they please and the politicians won’t open their mouth .

The law abiding people of ireland are been out bred . Who’s going to pay all these peoples welfare in the years ahead ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

yup, desperate people have simply bought these properties, what a fcuking train wreck of an approach to housing we have!

....the majority of births in the country are still amongst the settled community, so i wouldnt be worrying about such!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Walked from B&L to the end of the Carrickphierrish road and back there this morning. I ride horses myself and I don't mind the smell of horseshit but Jesus, the green area in front of the new houses is destroyed by the horses and the stench of horseshit all around the area is atrocious. That stench would definitely go into the new houses. I pity those people who bought those houses. Dirty hell hole of a road as a result of that halting site.

  • Registered Users Posts: 367 ✭✭OneLungDavy

Is that supposed to be a green area? You know, for kids to run around and play football etc, now it's overtaken by horses? Jesus, that's kind of heart-breaking.

The more houses that get built over there, the less grass there is for that crowds horses so they are now starting to encroach more and more on anywhere that there's grass. It's honestly just a matter if time before they start to invade private green areas in any estates around there. They don't care. They tether the horses up to the walls/fences and leave troughs on the ground and everything. Horseshit everywhere and it smells brutal (and I dont mind the smell of horseshit cos I ride horses myself but I dont want that smell inside my house). It's worth taking a drive by some say just to see the state of the whole area. I really pity those people, looking out at that and trying to keep their kids from getting destroyed in horseshit and rubbish discarded by the "lads".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 315 ✭✭nomoedoe

Have a look at the field on the right as you go into the NCT centre there’s about 5 horses in there and the field opposite in the industrial estate there’s one or two ,travellers do what they want because they get away with it ,that whole area is an absolute mess i can only imagine what it will be like in a few years because the council have washed their hands with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Azatadine

It really is a disgrace. I can only imagine how bad its going to become. Its like it's just been abandoned and thrown to the wolves. Nobody seems to care. Those apartments at the opposite side are in a bad state too. Its such a pity because the Gaeilscoil and Educate Together school is lovely and very well maintained but it stands alone on that road. I'm surprised with West, Genzyme and B&L that some pressure to stop the area going to the place its going wasn't exerted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Christ almighty, drove by there today and the crowd from the halting site have pulled the caps off the piers on the new estate so that they can tether the horses on the piers. Jesus Christ like. They really are taking the piss altogether. Surely the people in the estate can do something about it? Maybe not but Christ, it really is a disgrace the way they are destroying the new estate straight after it opened and the horses grazing away and tethered to the walls. It makes my blood boil to even pass through that road.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,884 ✭✭✭Hijpo

The poor disadvantaged ethnic minority, we should be privileged to have cap's on our walls, they don't even have walls. Check your privilege.

I'm sure that would be something along the lines of what the socialists that dont have to put up with it would spew.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 451 ✭✭Valhalla90

Its become an absolute kip of an area unfortunately. Most likely going to continue to get worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 392 ✭✭Rustyman101

Now now we should all be delighted with this cultural enrichment ! 1 law for Leo's people who "get up early in the morning " and a different law, well not different just total lack of enforcement for the people who don't rise so early!

Joke, try dumping a 3 bed trailer out on the green in front of your house n see how long before you get cuffed !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

i suspect its not just some socialists thats ignoring this and encouraging it, this is fcuking disgraceful stuff, the folks in the area need to come together and start kicking up over it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Yeah, they really need to get together and at least try to get the situation improved. I find it absolutely incredible that within a couple of weeks of the estate being opened that they have taken over the front with their horses and removed caps off the piers to tether them. Also, there are loads of crap containers lying around to water the horses. I really can't get my head around that. I don't live up that direction but it just makes my blood boil to see how they lay claim to everything in that area, even neighbouring estates. Surely the council must drive by there occasionally and see it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 418 ✭✭GandhiwasfromBallyfermot

I've stopped cycling on this road lately, its just too dangerous. Almost every time I pass the halting site the children sprint out and try push me off, throw stuff at me or if they get close enough try poking sticks through the spokes of my wheels. Never mind trying to dodge all the shite in the bike lane and road up there.

council policy is clearly to ignore it, as that generally means, it ll go away!

no one should have to put up with that sh1t!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

they should have the right to protest just like ourselves, we clearly have failed them, but they certainly havent helped themselves, polices to attend to their needs have effectively been trying to change them into settlers, it clearly has failed, they no longer have a place in society, this leads to dysfunctional outcomes.....

First time seeing this thread and reading through it. Two years later, isn't it amazing that things turned out EXACTLY as predicted?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,884 ✭✭✭Hijpo

"governments have failed to address the dire conditions in which Travellers are living"

From what i have seen the sites and the surrounding areas only get wrecked after they move in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Yup, the new estate being a great example. Soon as it opened, they started to wreck it and put their horses on it. It looks awful and the smell of horseshit is awful when you walk by there. I cant imagine living there at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 392 ✭✭Rustyman101

Society doesn't owe you a living, if you want to live on the margins, knock yourself out but don't expect others to pick up the tab !

Any limited interaction I have had or seen is bullying, harassment and thuggery, I assume by the law of averages there are some decent people but Joe public doesn't see them and they are not vocal in criticism of obvious failings within the group.

Two way street n all that !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

who d employ them? even for settlers, its actually very difficult to gain employment with largely untreated complex psychological disorders

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 392 ✭✭Rustyman101

Agree 100% who would employ them ? Not many would be my guess ! Now why do you think that is ?

In my opinion it's perception and where do you think that comes from ?

Pass a site, door to door salesmen, ever travel on the ships on the irish Sea ? A&E another good place to see the cultural enrichment usually when you have a sick family member.

Social media as our mainstream seems to avoid mentioning anything that's not PC

Now obviously not all engage in the above but it's where people get their perception, the ring road aka Ben Hur highway another good one.

So not really buying your complex issues, you could apply that to multiple demographics but they don't engage in 50% of the shite that travellers do, I'm done on this one now atb.

would you consider their behaviors as socially normal and acceptable? have an ould chat to them, and you ll start to see the disorders such as learning disabilities, substance miss use, all sorts of complex trauma, including generational trauma, etc etc. its extremely difficult to function 'normally' under such, let alone work. as it stands, most are currently unemployable, unless we do whatever we can to help them to resolve these issues, and even at that, employment is probably a long shot, but we might just prevent some of the dysfunction, might!

plenty of settlers behave in similar ways, spend time in any underdeveloped area, and you ll see it, you ll see the same or similar disorders at play there also!

I have to say, they actually shocked even me with the takeover of the property on a neighbouring estate within a day or two of it being opened and how quickly they are laying waste to it.

I must get a horse and just start tethering it to the door of my my next door neighbour and let it graze on his lawn.......

That bunch up there are left to do what they want. I couldn't see this level of "abandonment" by the council of it was out the Dunmore Road to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

unfortunately this does tend to be true, have a look over the wall opposite the bilberry site! but we cant ignore these type of issues, we ve more or less done the same amongst us settlers, and the outcomes are pretty much the same, increased dysfunctional behaviors including criminality, thats an us problem!

yup, another us problem, make these problems other peoples problems, while protecting certain sections of society!

Planning turned down for 96 more houses out on the Gaza Strip....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,582 ✭✭✭Asdfgh2020

    And your point is……?

your comparison of the area to Gaza Strip is moronic by the way……?

Passed that way about a week ago and a good few of the young trees that were planted on the green are gone, and so are the poles that they were tied to, such a shame. A lovely part of the city being ruined by a few.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

the residence need to get a handle on it, they have to form some sort of associations up there, or it simply will be unlivable eventually

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Azatadine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Apparently there were around 15 planted and only 3 left now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭Quitelife

Is there any Councillors or TD's in Waterford that will do anything for the law abiding living there??

Its happening all over Ireland sadly ,law and order is broken down in many communities with politicans looking the other way in case there cited for discrimination of an irish ethnic group

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,881 ✭✭✭BBM77

It is more than an Irish ethnic group that is the problem in Carrickpherish. There are very rough settled people after moving to the area also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Yeah, I think that's true too. I think the area is now pretty much thrown to the wolves.

LIDL wouldn't be investing if things were beyond the pale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 451 ✭✭Valhalla90

Lidl will be a decent addition up there!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,071 ✭✭✭Finnbar01

I feel sorry for the people who bought homes up there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭Azatadine

I see pretty much all of the trees in front of that new estate are now broken or gone altogether. Lots of piers and wall caps gone too. Not sure whether it's all down to the lads or not but it's a rough looking spot now one way or the other, on both sides of the road.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,073 ✭✭✭azimuth17

Just drove that way today. It will have to be taken in hand by residents to fix the things you mention, which are on the road frontages , away from the houses. It wont be helped by comments saying how rough it looks, no matter how well meant, IMHO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,060 ✭✭✭spankmemunkey

Id just like to say a few things.

Your never going to "fix" the issues with travellers highlighted in this thread.

This in turn makes it extremely upsetting for settled peopled who have to live around this activity

If you had CCTV footage of kids taking capping off piers what would be done? Nothing.

Theres no politician or political party who will try right these issues, ive seen first hand, councillours, people high up in council being held in deep conversation literally on one knee begging a well known traveller to move out of a hotel into a new home. he then tried to shake down the hotel for 5k before he left.

Moral of the story is this issue will never be sorted, i did my fair share of emails, contacted EPA contacted Ivan Grimes contacted Molloy Metals to see if certain people had a licence to collect scrap metal and hold metal in certain locations, its easy to get these things done by following the law but not even that will get law makers interested, they dont want to deal with the nightmare that is traveller activity and guess what travellers know that.
