The thing is, this winter eviction ban does not apply for non payment of rent. So I don’t understand how a judge has any authority to allow them to stay a further 2 months with his reason being due to the time of year.

Free market also means if you don't pay your mortgage you will be kicked out promptly, yet it can get up to 10 years or more to actually kick people out of their family home.

But is it fine for the state to subsidise rents ? As I mentioned perviously last year 40% of all people renting were on HAP or getting some other forms of government rental subsidy. Which in turn puts the pressure on people who need to rent but can't get any government support.

Same with Health care, do you want government to subsidise it or go full American capitalism ? You can't pick and choose, what just works for you.

As I said perviously, our government have done a pretty terrible job with housing. HAP was brought in as a temporary measure till they built social houses, but they did feck all, hence they just kept expanding the scope of HAP and here we are.

I am afraid they are just going to put in more measures to prevent people getting homeless, like eviction ban, longer notice periods etc as they have no other choice ! Current eviction ban expires in April 2023, it is not like we will have any more houses when it ends than what is available at the moment.

As a landlord, I like it but as a taxpayer I am outraged.

We seem to be getting some good corporate tax to fund all this stuff, but these payments need to be made during good times and bad times. If the **** hits the fan, assuming the government has to come with the money some how which will inevitable lead to austerity.

Labour like everything has a market price. The market price is not set by your costs. If the landlord bought the house cheaply, it doesnt influence what rent he should charge.

A market doesn't require that there is no government or private charity for people in need. They are supplements to the market. Small overall, so it isn't a problem. The problem we have today is that the government is trying to make private landlords, the bulk of the market, to be a safety net, so there is ensuing undermining of the sector. This leads to a loss of housing supply. BTW I would be much against minimum wage laws. REITs are allowed to buy up everything right now so I can't comment on hypothetical rules against them, but I think we should encourage them. They are only private actors building apartments.
