An elderly neighbour up the road never mastered how to drive anything other than a MF35 and in later year's a 135. He got a few "lessons" year's back from another neighbour in said neighbours car. Things weren't going great on the motoring front and whatever took place this particular evening our man managed to land the car on it's side in a drain. It looked worse than it was, the car was recovered with minimal damage and it was deemed a simple mistake. However our man took it too heart and thanked his instructor for his assistance but said he'd stick to the tractor in future. He maintained you'd "want 3 feet to drive a car".

I learned to drive on Zetor crystals and bought my first car a few years later at about 19/20, which was a Corolla.

Took a long time to get out of the habit of double clutching

But it just shows the desperate situation of who cobbled that together during the Balkans war.
Russian machine gun on a useless machine with tinfoil armour.

When it's ethnic "cleansing" time and you've a family you cobble whatever you can. Seen a large homemade apc that was made in the shipyard for doing humanitarian runs in the streets during siege of Dubrovnik, much thicker armour, about 2" sloped plate, multiple small arms round impacts all over it but none gone through. Saved many lives in the city.

had a sales man here yeasterday pricing up changing a silage rake. he copied the mf 5610 in the yard here and immediately started trying to persuade me to trade it in for a new one..said he had a queue of lads waiting for used models like mine to come in

a good few years ago, after a long day on a tractor I sat into my corolla and put on the wipers when I wanted to reverse as I was so used to the power shuttle. that was the mid 90s corollas where the indicators were on the right of the steering wheel, and wipers on the left.

Started toying with the idea of a tractor change; still can't believe the prices MF 390's are going for but MF 698/699's up at the 15-20K + mark. Granted they are clean looking machines but I can't see how someone would fork out 20k for a machine of that era.

Selection up north seems to be a lot better; newer/cleaner machines and even in sterling more evenly priced.

Friend priced a case puma 200 for 65inc vat 14 reg with 5500 hrs. He said a new one is north of 140

I don't think they will actually calm down though FM.

As long as I can remember, the second hand market seems to be a percentage of new price. New prices are going through the roof so the second hands are following. I don't see the new prices dropping either as the second hand imports from the UK were there to help keep manners on dealers, but they are as good as gone now with Brexit.

It's true what you say but there is a bit of extra heat around in alot of things at the minute not just tractors.inflation has reawakened after years in the doldrums and it's only a matter of time before interest rates move up.put that with the easing of printing money and covid payments running out plus construction projects being put off due to material hikes

Every one I talk to says Dunnes prices are way dearer enyway but what I see will happen is all the farm inputs will rise in price and stay stay high while factory gate prices for milk, beef and lamb will drop back to last year prices

Because Dunnes give these vouchers 8/40 euro, 10/50 euro off a lot of shoppers think they are saving money in reality Dunnes have increased the prices of a lot of there good to compensate for that loss.

Only item I see gone up over the he last few years are spuds and lamb. Potatoes are gone up in price 2-3 years now. 2.5 kgs queen's are 8.5 euro. Lamb has increased by 35-35% over the last 2-3 years.paid 35 euro for a full leg of lamb in the last few days. It was not big by any means.

However supermarkets are increasing there margin by selling prepared fresh foods, whether it's garlic potatoes, or BBQ packs or product that is stuffed for roasting.

Most commodities are up but like oil a decent hike in raw prices only translates into a moderate increase in retail price

Inflation is only short term I'd say. Looks like interest rates won't be rising for a good few years. There is just too much debt everywhere. Governments will likely tolerate higher levels of inflation to deal with the debt situation.

Anyone any experience of Case JX 65 C. They are a very tidy tractor and I am assured they have no problem lifting a round bale

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 22,102 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

Know nothing about them, details on tractor data seem ok. Good lift you will probably need weights at the front . It has a mechanical shuttle 12F/R. It has an Iveco 3 cylinder 2.9 diesel engine.

He also has a 4 wheel drive. There are quite a few of them around our area. Spoke to a couple of owners, all very happy with them . One guy bought his in 2003. Clutch replaced and a few small items. There is less than 1200 hours on 4 wheel drive one. Will be used for winter feeding (Always on concrete) .Mostly pit silage. Spreading fert. All heavy work done by contractor.

Hopefully make a better stab at them then the likes of the jx95 / nh td95d.

Relatively simple tractors but lacking in build quality due to obvious cost cutting.

Does anyone else remember the 3rd country spec tractors that were made in the UK? No lights or cabs, some didn’t even have a battery, there was some sort of wind up starter on them.

I suppose if the hydraulics and shuttle on these are good enough they are ok as a stock man’s tractor.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I think the tractors in that link are a version of the JX / TD tractors?

Either way, it says they have four separate emissions control systems, which are probably the most problematic component on new tractors today, so they’re not exactly straightforward……

The picture of the lot didn't do it justice when it came up. I know anyone would have the lot number noted down and inspected prior to sale but still.

I ran up the loader and the 7740 myself. Very nearly got the 7740.
