That was a far better episode, my hopes are picking up for the show

I hope for their sake they had the hard drive hooked up to a computer that was off the network.

Was anyone else thinking that it was a really risky time for Ben to leap? Like David's going to be back in his body, in space at Mir and not hanging on to anything. And seems they don't have a waiting room.

Maybe it was just the characters he's been playing lately but Ernie Hudson's looking better than previous times I've seen him. Seems in better form than Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray.

Why wouldn't there be a waiting room so they know exactly what they are going back to?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,064 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

I think your falling into a trap you are telling the other poster to not fall into. Back in the 80s and 90s we know what those shows were but we watched them as escapism leave youe thinking cap at the door and they were great. I have gone back and watched the a team, macgyver, Knight rider and they are exactly as I remember and if I want a day of on the sofa not thinking they are great.

Also don't forget these shows and other are the forefathers (for want of a better word) to what we have today I include all those detective shows. Give me street's of San Francisco murder she wrote and Colombo for a great nostalgic.

Without them and what came inbetween youvmay never had. breaking bad or better call Saul. I wonder in 30 to 40 years will someone call them everything you said of 80 shows on a social media site

The reason I assume there's no waiting room is they keep relying on Ziggy to find him instead of just seeing who's in the waiting room.

Like in the final episode of the original series Al said there was no one in the waiting room which was part of the reason they had trouble locating Sam.

Also would assume they would've mentioned it by now. Though I'm surprised no one has mentioned what happens the body's owner. Maybe a future episode will address it.

I guess one possibility for not just asking who they are is that they may pass out or have temporary amnesia. And since they are in Ben's body, they can't just work off their appearance.

Just watched the 2nd episode. It was good. Knew I was going to like that and it lived up to it. What a leap unto the Space Shuttle and getting to do a space walk too. So cool.

I loved the bit at the end too. That was very cool. I think they are doing a good job so far.

You should try to watch The A-Team or Knight Rider or MaGyver etc.

The A-Team is brilliant. Knight Rider I agree is terrible in so many ways but I still love it and classic Mcyver us brilliant unlike the new one which is just terrible. It could have been any show but they just stuck Mcyver it to be lazy. A bit like how that sci-fi show "Discovery" tries to pretend to belong to a certain franchise but it does not. It could be any boring crappy sci-fi show might as well have been called Discovery The Micheal Burnham show.

How do you even know if he/she or they are that? They could simply be Non-Binary which I think they might be.

    Peace and long life.

Well it pays to have an antivirus programme! Turns out there's a VPN thing as part of the Norton package which came with my laptop. Quick switch on, sign up for Peacock (no credit card details needed) and next thing I know I'm watching episode 1. And have to say I really enjoyed it. Now to work out how to access the other episodes...

No I think the idea of God/higher power being involved came up in one of the early seasons. I think it was talked about between Sam and Al a couple of times and then the “evil leapers” were introduced with the idea that a dark power was behind them .

Any word yet on who is getting rights to this show here?

I just noticed the original is on sky replay. It's on season 1 episode 7 at the moment, so still very early in the show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,880 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

It dropped nearly 600k viewers from the opening episode to the second one.

Reports that the opening episode was actually the 6th episode and the pilot is being reshot as a mid season cliffhanger episode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Did they do reshoots on episode 6 or something because unless there was to be 5 episodes before leaping don't see how that could be a later episode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,880 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

And there is the MacGuffin so...

He can jump outside his own lifetime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,670 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

    Well they kinda explained it..

I enjoyed the episode - and next week looks fun!

It's playing it by the rule book and not too much future stuff but enough for some intrigue.

(I'm even warming to Addison but only a little bit)

Hope when Ben remembers Addison that it doesn't cause problems with host relationships like the look she gave when he was kissing the girlfriend in this. I would expect some awkwardness the first time or 2 after he remembers but hope it doesn't interfere too much.

So Janis to be another hologram with an alternate mission?

Couple of quick questions about the original series:

Al said he saw Sam's host, rather than Sam, didn't he? Wonder if it's the same for Addison.

Wasn't there one time where Sam had sex with someone then leapt into the timeline where he met the child of that couple that supposedly had a really high IQ which implied Sam was the father rather than the host?

Haven't tuned into the new series. Just visiting here to see if it is any good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Yep, just looked it up after posting.

Some day i'll go back and rewatch the series and not just the occasional episode I see on Sky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Episode 3 was the closest yet to classic QL. Shame that they are hemorrhaging viewers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Think tvline said numbers are up for this episode. I think it'll get a full season at least.

Not a bad episode. Loved that ending. Can not wait for the next episode. That looks like a fun episode. Can not wait to see how he gets on for his first time as a Woman.

At first I thought it must be a gay club or something and I woukd say he did too but then he and the viewer she him/her in the mirror and she us very beautifull so it should be very interesting. I wonder what her story is.

I still remember the original series episode with Sam beckets first time as a Woman and how he hated it but he grew into it after a while.

I also can not wait to see Addison help him through that and if he says something like "how do you do it" or something else like maybe "I never knew" etc. If done right there should be some decent chemistry and fun to it. What if he has to kiss a man or a man kisses him? I wonder what she will think of that?

An additional 6 episodes ordered taking the total to 18.

It the number 1 new show of the season.

To be honest that wouldn't be hard as it must be the worst year in a long long time for new shows.

This is the only one I have checked out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Episode 4 was a cracker. Fantastic tie-in to the original series, and the ending was lovely too. Should change the dynamic a little bit.

@AC - same! Rookie Feds is probably the only other one, but it isn't great.

I don't think I'm watching any other new network shows, although I will check out The Winchesters tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,880 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

So now we know he can jump outside his own lifetime when can we expect him to jump into the far flung future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Think it's still limited to the past, though I expect a tease at some point where he thinks he's in the future at first until it reveals it's fake.

Going by last week's episode as well, it seems he's plotted a course through the past so not sure how that works.

The preset day stuff isn't as bad as I expected.

Blood & Treasure just finished the season so nice to get a bit more Sofia Pernas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,670 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Because of the Western stuff? Probably ends up being a film set or something

As for this episode - was ok but not up to the original gender swap episode I thought, no real play on being a woman

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

They stated last week that Ben took out the code that stopped him from traveling outside his lifetime.

Not a bad episode but I agree that his first time being a Woman should have taken him more time to get used to and certainly not as good as when Scott Bukella done it. I knew he/she was not a Domme as they would not have men hitting on them like that they would be busy in a kink club dominating them or in their Dungeon. He Sam B used to go all out and wear the make up and all which at least made it more real as he is/was in a Womans body after all. Ben too should have had make up on. I liked the connection to the past from the future with Magic alright.

Think the difference with Ben was that he was in the body of a woman less than a dat and apart from the underwear, according to him, he still got to wear trousers and looked like flat shoes.

What's the overall verdict on this. I liked the show back in the day. Is this worth viewing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,670 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

It's fine viewing, not as good as I remember the original but only a few episodes in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,880 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

    I'm guessing that is not.....

Sam and that is the evil leaper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

    Hmm.

They're going that route pretty quickly. Guess that's why he leapt and like I said, Janis may appear as another hologram to tell Ben th who, what and why. Don't think she's working with them anyway.

Also means there's a mole in Quantum Leap which Addison can begin searching for. Could also explain why Ben felt he had to perform the unauthorised leap.

Raises a lot of questions. Will we get flashbacks to what they did in Ben's previous leaps? Is there only one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,007 ✭✭✭DoctorEdgeWild

I tried to stick with it but just couldn't. Lasted three episodes. What makes it even harder is that on my TV service the tile for watching new Quantum Leap is right next door to the one for old Quantum Leap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

It's strange he doesn't seem to try and be discreet when talking to Addison and no one notices, unless it can lead to a conversation with that person.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,670 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Well that was an interesting ending

Just seen the latest episode after a couple of false starts when I just thought well this looks crap. It was actually a really good episode and what an interesting ending. So was the person who knew about Ben another time traveller? , who knows.

    Yes I thought that too.

With Sam he would always be finding a toilet or a changing room or somewhere quiet to talk to All here Ben does not bother when talking to Allison.

    Yes it certainly was.

Seemingly it's rumoured to be cancelled..down 500k viewing numbers by ep 6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Shame. Another good one this week, adding some more mystery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,349 ✭✭✭Frank Grimes

Definitely will be a shame if it gets cancelled this quickly in. I think for what it is it's not too bad and it's getting better - next week's episode looks like it'll be fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,670 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

    Enjoyed that episode

As for the cancellation threat - its from a site with a 50% accuracy rating, looking at its stats its in there with other shows that are multi season by now but same viewership - I think this will get renewed, hell NBC renewed La Brea and that is like grade Z tv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Well it got the order for more episodes anyway to get a total of 18 and seems the delayed viewing numbers are decent.

I think it's a show that will also get decent word of mouth since seems there is a lot of positive feedback about it. I know posters here, including myself were sceptical of it and the cast photos and I'll admit I was wrong.

Another good episode this week and always nice to see Kaylee. Was strange that we didn't see his reflection until the car at the end.

Halloween episode next week. Makes me think of the Stephen King episode in the original.

Future timelines being mentioned but no mention of the previous evil leaper? Would assume they have records. As for how the leapers are seen by other leapers and the hologram, seems different rules than the original. Though think those rules were a bit flexible before anyway.

Is there actually any point to the non binary character at all other than having a non binary character on the show because they talk more about their look than they do about the science stuff than how they run the science behind Quantum Leap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Seems like a standard tech character to me. I like them, though.

That was a really good episode, very well written and executed too.

I wonder what Janice was trying to warn Ben about.
