We should have footage of at least one of these if true.

It looks like a lot of ground work is being put in by Russian propaganda networks to prepare their population for a nuclear attack or at the least some sort of nuclear incident. The narrative seems to be "the west made us do it we where pushed into a corner" etc... This is obviously complete bollox but it is worrying that the mere mention of nuclear weapons seems to be increasingly used by the Russian state and it's propaganda outlets.

    (The Guardian)

Vladimir Putin says Russia is ready to resume gas supplies via one link of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline that remains operational

Russia is ready to start such supplies. The ball is in the court of the EU. If they want, they can just open the tap.

or open the vein. Spoken like your friendly neighborhood heroin dealer...

They are so bad at this. A few days ago they released photographs of the truck driver's license and it just so happened to have the same unique serial number as the sample license on wikipedia and another of its numerical ids was just a string of 0's.

    It's just sloppy half-arsed work.

Compare and contrast that to the social media team working for Ukraine who are putting out incredibly good content day after day:

Americans not happy with a certain Saudi Prince, calls for a pause on all military tech.

Does that monumental fúck up have a brother that could actually take the reigns?

I had for a long time assumed that if only we (the world) could see Putin somehow ‘removed’, things would immediately de-escalate and Ukraine and the rest of us could return to normal (whatever that means).

But on yesterday’s BBC4 P.M, Evan Davies interviewed John Simpson - currently in Moscow for BBC, and the FT’s Max Seddon. The gist of the conversation was, remarkably, that Putin is currently a moderating force in the Kremlin, and the newly promoted commander of the Ukraine war, General Surovikin, is having to be reigned in by Putin. Surovkin has a long history of waging war with scant regard for human life - civilian or military.

I cannot get out of my thinking the paranoia, plotting and backstabbing, which Russian communism creates for itself in a vicious circle, exemplified by Iannuci’s wonderfully dark ‘The death of Stalin’.

As someone else said, the Surovkin guy looks like a parody of a James Bond villain, you couldn't invent him. And sounds like an absolute bas*ard of the highest order, one of these military guys who's not just ruthless but probably actually sadistic. On the other hand, Putin knows what he was doing when he appointed him, so kind of hard to imagine what reining him in is supposed to mean...

You love the 'ol nuclear rhetoric? Always coming back to it. No point in worrying about it would be my advice.

I was reading somewhere on the run up to the war, that out of Putin's inner circle (there's a Russian name for it) that's he's the most level headed out of them, and is usually reigning in everyone else.

Yes, yes because Russia have been so refined from the start of this.

There has been about 20 generals killed or fired since the start of this, weird soviet baby boss will be no different.

It's a measure of how bad Puttin is struggling, what they need is sophistication, they just brought in a bigger dumber hammer, what's the definition of madness? Puttin will blame and fire him for his continuing losses in the not so distant future.

I don't know. I think this idea of Putin as a somewhat moderating force, holding these vicious rottweilers back on a short leash is a bit of a stretch. I'm sure it's one he's very happy to portray - supremely powerful, vengeful but also merciful is of course how God himself is often presented; the archetype for any despot. Kind of "my only fault is that I'm too kind to them", has he sends his hoards to annihilate his enemies.

The war is a collective Russian leadership effort, there's a load of them on the same page. Some will be slightly less hawkish than others, some might be more prone to ordering worse atrocities than others. Some are obviously far less competent than others. But they're all equally capable of doing unspeakable things without justification, and equally guilty.

The messaging could be a self preservation gambit from Putin: "I am the only one hold these guys back, so better you deal with me rather than have me ousted and these guys take over"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,274 ✭✭✭EOQRTL

Not sure what to think tbh but hearing John Simpson say it was an interesting take on the situation. Maybe he's a putinbot now also 👀

If you have a reputation for getting up early you can stay in bed all day. Surovkin has a reputation for ————————— but is it really true. His reputation suits Putin anyway

Jesus lads didn't realise things were so bad for us here in the EU, I must be one of the few who still lives a privileged life:-

Thankfully I have plenty of toilet paper:-

Oleksiy Reznikov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine: German IRIS-T systems have arrived in Ukraine, we expect American NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems in the near future

    Great news.

Does anyone else get a sense that something is very off about the US reluctance to supply serious air defense systems and tanks?

The excuses regarding the tanks are cringingly patronising, being along the lines of 'we have decided whats best for ukraine and it's more old Russian stuff that NATO allies scarcely want themselves.'

They seem prepared to give patriot systems to everyman and their dog, but not Ukraine. I'd love to know what's really going on because it's whiffy.

There's plenty of evidence to back up his reputation.

But yes, it does suit Putin to have that image of rottweiler on a leash beside him.

I'm more wondering who the people are they have arrested for that, and what sort of example trial they are going to do.

I'd bet they are either long-term critics who they couldn't nail down before, or people with famous relations abroad.

Obviously they won't actually have anything to do with the bridge.

When they come out with crap like this, it lends more weight to the theory that it was the Russians that blew the bridge.

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

He’s actually correct- I don’t do any of those things- I have a harem of comely maidens that do all of that for me 😛

lol, that's as goofy as the time they photoshopped a Ukrainian jet firing a missile into a photo of MH-17 to cover up yet another war crime. You have to wonder are the Russian so-called intelligence agencies coming up with this as stupid as the people that believe them? Honourable mention too for the absolute clown who got SIM 3 video games instead of 3 SIM cards to fake a photo of a Ukrainian 'hit squad' in Russia.

The SBU exposed a traitor who supplied the Russian troops with coordinates for missile strikes on Kyiv

In the course of the pre-trial investigation, SBU investigators established the identity and collected a comprehensive evidence base of the man who supplied the Russian military with coordinates for missile strikes on Kyiv.

If any of the victims need replacement organs, I can suggest a source.

Will be interesting to see how quickly the bridge gets fixed.

Ukraine supporters are saying 3-5 months. Russian supporters are saying a week.

That means the Ukrainian 60k dead figure may not be too far off definitely somewhere in the 40-50k figures. So we can probably take it that the rest of there figures are fairly accurate as well.

How long is the war.........sorry special operation going on 27/28 weeks. 16-1800 dead as a weekly average and the same captured or very severely wounded.

It could be even worse than that as the FSB figures could be 3-4 weeks old

    Slava Ukrainii

60k dead would mean conservatively 180k wounded at a 3:1 ratio - recent conflicts see that ratio go as high as 10:1 or 17:1 for the US military

With Ukrainians being sent to mainland europe for hospital treatment the survival rates may be better, so number of wounded even larger

Huge toll - but Ukraine have all males 18-60 to draft also, which numbers in the millions

    Great.

I spend the last 2 years threatening all of humanity, then...

    I feel so inadequate.
