    Hi.

Can I use the same bank account if I sign up in the wifes name?

The best way to go about these calls is to just go straight in.

I don't let them get a word in.

Just say I'm paying 63 for broadband and it's too expensive, you're giving people 9 and 6 months half price so I want the same. Mention reddit and boards.ie as proof if they say they aren't. When they start talking crap about fivers off just cut them off and say I need 9 or 6 months half price.

Tell them you do this **** every year so lets not waste time as you know I can get it cheaper by moving so I'll take take 9 or 6 months half price.

9 or 6 months seems to be the best you'll get, start at 9 and then 6 obviously.

Don't just say I'm looking for a deal and see what they offer. Push from the second they answer and never let them take control of the call. When they are being cut off from speaking and being pushed for the 9 months they get fed up very quick and cave.

The current offer for new customers of 1/2 price sky sports for 6 months and then full price after that....can the sky sports be cancelled at any stage with a month's notice does anyone know?

My partner sent the cancelation email yesterday. got the email from VM a few hours after that, with numbers to ring ... talk about what can be done/why is he leaving....

Rang that number today, had a chat with VM...

He gets really friendly with them on the phone.

VM offered him 6m for 65 or so, for 1gb (we are on 500 now and our contract was until 1/11), he said no better offer available out there ...then they offered 43 for 9m and 83 for 3m, which is on par with current 50 per month for new custs.

Just to say they offered almost nothing when he rand the numbers from their website initially before cancelling.

And they already upped our speed this evening, with new equipment coming in a few days (not sure why though).

Annoying they’ve pulled the €75 gift voucher for now. Sale extended also.

  • Registered Users Posts: 326 ✭✭Level 42

anyone have knowledge abt returning equipment after cancelation -got a txt the other day do they send out a box for it or what

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,261 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

They do in their hole. Left to the customer to get it back to them. Think it was picked up by courier or dropped to parcel dropoff, can't really remember. Previous year I just brought it to electronic recycling centre.

    Equipment Collection:

To arrange collection of the equipment you will receive a call from us in the next 30 days. However if you prefer you can out contact our collector directly at vmequipmentcollections@actavo.com

That was in my cancellation email from VM

Making customers call, making customers wait ages while playing annoying music, saying no then calling back later to say yes. Obnoxious staff, billing mistakes on changing contracts. Game playing on actual cancellation date like switching it to the follow up call.

A clear strategy to raise the costs of switching so that many will be deterred.

The legal team don't seem to know the half of it.

Could be any of them really, Sky, VF, the list is endless...

If my contract is up do I still have to give a month notice to VM to cancel service?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,416 ✭✭✭billbond4

    Yes

  • I canceled my broadband with them last week. Got a text saying "we don't want to see you go yada yada" and a phone number to call. Got a new phone so lost this number. Does anyone know it or should I just go through the 1908 one?

    Message I got a month ago=

Here at Virgin Media, we do not want to see you leave. We would love to hear from you and see if there is anything we can do to change your mind and If so you can call us on 1800940199 and we can take it from there.

I never rang and they never rang me, so signed up in the wife's name

Can anyone provide the cancellation email address please? Thanks

I got this message too. Rang up today to see what they could do.

Current (after introductory) price is 106 pm for 500MB and TV. To keep 500MB and downgrade TV package, 84 pm for 6 months and 99pm (i.e. full price) after that. Told them thanks but no thanks.

Is it just luck of the draw as to whether you get a nice person on the phone who'll give you a deal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭EarWig

They'll be working off aggregate figures. Best offers only after lots of people actually leave.

  • Registered Users Posts: 215 ✭✭Davy05

So I cancelled my virgin media tv and broadband yesterday and got an email saying my cut off day will be the 15th Nov.

So if i get my partner to sign up for a new deal under her name instead at the same address, will we have to use a different bank account or will it make a difference?

    1. can I purchase a new broadband package even before the termination date? technically this will be 2 accounts on the same address while waiting for termination. VM website says you cannot have 2 accounts on the same address..
    2. Is the 30day cool off time for a new connection to the same address still being considered? as i have read previously on this thread..

    Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 215 ✭✭Davy05

They rang and offered me a cancellation offer of 500mb at €84 for 9 months... told them thanks but no thanks. Said it was the best they could do. I'll see if they try again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 237 ✭✭Jerry Atrick

I'm after signing the Mrs up as a new account and overlapping with two weeks on the old service. No issues so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,769 ✭✭✭horse7

Re: cancelling: You can cancel your contract by providing one months notice to Virgin Media via phone or alternatively, you can write to us at Virgin Media Ireland, Limerick Enterprise Development Park, Roxboro Road, Limerick.

My question is if today is 21th Oct and my contract of 12 months ends on 21th November would that work as 30 days notice, so is it okay to give the 30days notice while still in contact or do I have to wait till my contact is finished, which would mean staying for another month with VM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭✭Theboinkmaster

    Hi

Rang 1800940199 just now and got straight to the point - please cancel now and ill re-connect as new customer.

Currently in contract for next week was paying €64 per month. So next 12 months would be €768 for 250mb broadband.

He said to reconnect they'd need a technician at cost of €50 even if it was someone in house etc. Sounded like he knew the drill and got straight to point.

So i said if i cancelled and reconnected via wife as new customer it'd be €45 per month for 12 months + €30 activation fee + €50 installation = €620.

    He immediately offered me 9 months a €45 and 3 at €60 = €585.

So i accepted there and then, not worth hassle of re-connecting etc.

Easily the quickest call I've had with VM, less than 5mins - direct and to the point, I'd say everyone is doing this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 215 ✭✭Davy05

So after cancelling and rejecting their initial first offer, VM rang back an hour later and eventually offered me 500mb internet and big bundle tv at an average €60 a month for 12 months.

I'm delighted with that. They doubled my Internet speed and saved me roughly 350 quid a year in the process.

I always tell anyone who will listen: the biggest thing you can do to save money is change all your providers each year. Or at least threaten too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,315 ✭✭✭CoBo55

If you go as a new customer online you'll only be charged the activation fee as you don't need new wiring etc. You did well all the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,359 ✭✭✭DubDJ

I called yesterday and had a bit of back and forth with the cancellations department. The person I was dealing with was friendly and straightforward.

Took a bit of time but eventually got €30 for six months and going up to €60 after that for 250Mbs (which we currently have anyway). €540 for the year which isn’t bad.

Got the usual script of the fastest in Ireland and they wanted to save me the hassle of switching over. Happy with that price though.

I've noticed on the Virgin Media website there's a 75 euro gift card offer for new BB contracts.

I gave my notice recently and my wife is going to join Virgin Media at our address in about three weeks, but the gift card expires in 5 days.

Can she sign up now in order to get the gift card, and wait three weeks before activating her contract?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,769 ✭✭✭horse7

What happens when my contreact with VM is over? Do they stop service? Do they charge me more per month?

  • Registered Users Posts: 529 ✭✭✭Cookiee

Whatever you're currently getting charged is what you'll keep getting charged, for example my contract ended a long time ago and I pay the same amount as I did before, just not in a contract so I can leave anytime without an early contract cancelation fee

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,769 ✭✭✭horse7

Thanks, what about the 30 day notice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,609 ✭✭✭dubrov

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,769 ✭✭✭horse7

Thanks for clearing up the 30days notice, I found it ambiguous the fact that I f the contract has finished the notice is still required.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,315 ✭✭✭CoBo55

When I left them to go to digiweb the guy on the phone gave me an instant cancellation as I was out of contract and already sorted with another provider.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭EarWig

VM insist on it. Comreg disagree. Court case in progress.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators Posts: 6,543 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sheep Shagger

That wasn't the case for us we went from a 12 month promo rate of €79 to €112pm.

Now I diarise when the contract is due for renewal so we can change in the other halfs name to retain the new customer promo rate.

When you speak of using spouses names… presume it doesn’t matter whether share married names?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,609 ✭✭✭dubrov

THe negotiation process seems to be getting easier each year.

I got onto a customer service agent within 5 minutes and deal done within another 5 minutes with no hard push.

250Mb Broadband only, 30 for 6 months and 60 for the other 6.

I am coming off a 9 month for 30 and 3 month for 60 deal and have had similar deals for 5 years plus.

I rang up and I didn't have to do anything, they just offered me 9 months half price on whatever internet speed I wanted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭EarWig

Could be that people are feeling the pinch and looking to cut back.

I'm quite happy to give it up this time. For real, so they really better not try my patience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭gypsy79

Has anyone done this recently. Very much willing give up too

You agreed to a 16.6% increase. Hardly a bargain

Rang 1800 940 199. Straight to a person. I was out of contract and paying €60 pm. I had to push it a bit but got 9 months @ €45 + 3 months @ €60, 250MB, no landline. Happy with that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,315 ✭✭✭CoBo55

That's the standard opening offer, 15 off for 9 months you could have done better, at least half price for 6 months would be my aim.

Jaysus just reading some of your dealings over last couple months

I was well out of contract and paying 72.50 for 240mb broadband, no tv.

rang to try and get deal my colleague had just got of 70 per month to include tv and a free tele

got a knob jockey on the phone who wouldn’t offer me any kind of a deal so I asked for cancellation….. he just shouted down phone that people don’t want to pay for anything anymore…. And he cut me off before I could reply

I couldn’t really cancel before as I only had virgin as fibre option till a few months ago. fibre to the home now available though so I was done with them. it was torture trying to cancel but got there in end.

Signed up for sky, doubled my speed and got tv thrown in for 50 a month so now I’m getting a better service and saving €300 for the year

no doubt I’ll be back to Virgin at some stage, don’t mind chopping and changing and nice now I have option of multiple suppliers

but yet man I got was a prize pr1c& unlike the deals some of you had received

oh and I did get a call to try and keep me onboard about 10 days ago but whilst he was nice and we chatted, I told him my mind was made up as a result of the rude lad so no idea what kind of offer I would have gotten

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 472 ✭✭nuttyboy79

I was out of contract rang them up 20 minutes on hold 5 minutes talking to the guy I got 500gb broadband and big TV for €90 a month for 9 months. It's the same deal as I got last year so was happy with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,342 ✭✭✭johnfás

Has anyone had any further successes lately? I didn't get very far at all with a discount the week before Christmas (having always got a decent discount for the past 7 years). I issued my cancellation notice for cancellation on 22 January 2023 and hoping to get a call back or try them again. Otherwise we may proceed with cancellation any my wife take out a new account.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,699 ✭✭✭Gusser09

Out of contract now. Paying 75 i think for 500mb broadband. I'll see what i can get. Probably be 6 months at 55 or something. Id take it though.

  • You really should be able to get better. We got 9 months at €35 and 3 at €70 for 500mb with one call
