You only need to dress for the VC meetings, and then only head and shoulders. 😉

I think the office pie chart has a very generous amount for 'working' and perhaps should have a higher proportion for coffee / chatting?

No one gets coffee or prepares lunch at home?

No one has to assist colleagues as part of their job if they WFH?

    Dream on.

Well, if you want to be pedantic about it, rather than just taking it as a bit of wry humour, I suppose you could allow 20 degrees for getting coffee and lunch, combined - my kettle and fridge are right there, as opposed to a 10 minute walk to the café/deli, queuing, placing order, waiting, 10 mins walk back... and maybe 15 to 20 degrees for 'helping others do their work/answering queries', cos I know I get interrupted far less when I'm WFH than when I'm in work!

Now that the weather is getting colder, what are those who are working from home doing to heat up their offices efficiently?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,839 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Same thing they’ve done for the last two years I’d imagine

getting interrupted less might (on the face of it at least) be good for you, but could well be worse for your colleagues and the company / dept / division overall.

Time to replace my chair. Any recommendations for a comfortable one please?

And also recommendation for a standing desk please, with electronic raiser ideally. Just thought might get a good deal on Black Friday or Cyber Monday....

I was on a webinar today with work about working from home. The guy giving the talk was talking about case numbers and said he wouldn’t be surprised if there was public health advice in the coming weeks encouraging people to stay home. I haven’t been following any news on this but anyone any views on this?

I'm not heating the home more (yet, at least), but I did invest in a couple of knockoff Oodies from Dunnes. "Cardigan culture" is apparently the way of the future: https://www.ul.ie/sustainability/events/sustainability-cardigan-culture-embrace-the-comfort-webinar

Opinions on asking about a decent chair to work from home? Id pay half for a second hand herman miller etc e.g 600 euro...do ye typically just expense it back after buying one yourself?

i relate but also note the top one is missing

    1) dropping/ collecting kids

    2) cooking dinner

    3) doing the washing

    4) loading dishwasher

    5) dosing cattle.

    and that was just today.

Do you mean expense it back to the company? In my case, I can't.

Adjustable table was the key for me, so I can stand. Was more important than a chair

Thanks. Any particular model, they have almost 30!

I'd love a standing desk, but maybe a barstool for it (apologies I couldn't resist).

I've an awful habit of when I get a call getting up from the table/desk and pacing the length of the room. I imagine annoying when work.

I find sitting for 8 hours tough, so half the time I'm leaning over the chair typing. Not good for my old body.

Apparently there are ~60 a day in hospital testing positive for Covid , but aside from saying that "not everyone is in Hospital because of Covid" they haven't given the break-down of how many are sick from Covid or who just happened to test positive when being admitted for something else. It's mostly the latter I would suspect.

Unsurprisingly a large chunk of those testing positive are people who are not fully vaccinated/boosted (if at all).

No indication that guidance will change any time soon and I'd say that there are several steps before we might ever get there again.

There will be a big push for vulnerable groups to get a fresh booster now as we move into the winter months and the traditional Flu season and then if things really begin to tick up again you might see the re-introduction of masks on Public transport etc. before they start talking about people staying away from the office.

I got the Titan model at the start of lockdown, served me well since. I don't know that there's all that much difference between a lot of them, really, apart from the colours.

Hi all, the following is a question which has probably been asked on this (very long) thread approx 500 times, but Imma ask it again. Please indulge me :)

I find myself in need of a new job, and I am strongly leaning towards a WFH position of some sort (my previous job was FOH and could be manically busy at times, so the idea of working solo at home seems quite appealing right now). Those of you who have been WFH since, or even before COVID, how is it, really?? Are you happy enough to be fully home-based once you have what you need to do your job?

Also, in terms of what I'm looking for, it would be perhaps entry-level, non-specialised, eg, clerical work/data entry, that sort of thing. Direct customer support as a last resort, quite honestly I would prefer not to deal with angry people for a while! I don't have any skillset that could translate into starting my own online business unfortunately.

Has anybody done content moderation? I've heard it can be very challenging in terms of what you may have to watch.

I see a couple of online copywriting courses that look good, is something like this worth pursuing in the current jobs market?

I'd appreciate any guidance or advice, I'm a bit at sea with all of this, but strongly feel that WFH could benefit me, even in the short-term.

I work in IT support, a role that can mostly be done from home. So WFH is the preferred working method, for most of the time and occasional visits to site for the physical work.

This for me is the ideal solution, many companies are trying to roster in "office time" which I believe is pointless unless there are key face to face meetings. Stressful work while home alone is probably not a good idea as sometimes you would need colleagues around you to assist, contend moderating would probably fit into that category but this is not something I have any real experience of.

TBH, this is two questions, there's probably a suitable question for the latter question.

WFH- depends on your situation- living with family, kids, renting, do you have adequate space. Also are you self-disciplined, motivated, ok without the human interaction etc. For me, the ideal situation is hybrid, where you can WFH but go into the office IF YOU WANT.
