    6.1kWp South of Cork City,

597 kWh generated for September, Used 54% of it and the PV saved me about €100 on my Elec bill

More importantly I am now have been up an running for 12 months and I have generated 7,000 kWh or 7 Mega Watt Hours over the year (well 6965 kWh but who is going to argue about 35 kWh between friends...😉)

I was above my predicted generation for nearly every month and this August smashed it.

Here is my 7 day moving average over the past 11 months (as I don't have full daily data for last October logger was not set up yet) End of March and middle of August were big earners. July was a disappointment.

If 322kW is saving you €100 then you should look to switch provider soon...

PVGIS predicted 509KWh (for a 6KWp at -30° azimuth SSE with 5KWh batt for now) and I got 444KWh being the worse day 1.2KWh and best 32KWh

    I've imported 29KWh and exported 135KWh.

While the system delivered 12-13% less than expected I'm overall happy, Eddi took care of the hot water and only had to turn the boiler on a couple of times. The system can handle the 5KWh batt pretty well and I think here is room for another 5KWh at the right price.

263kwh from 4kwh for sept. 60% exported. lot of the best days did not line up with our presence/usage. 220 of that is from 3kwp SW, 43 from 1kwp NE. was a very mixed month , I'm sure a proper September with an indian summer would be well over 300kwh

Would anyone be able to post their daily production graphs please?

I want to see the production at the time of day, as I'm looking at solar for a dairy farm where peak demand is 8-10am and 5-7pm. Also orientation, size and if possible an average for a month or some daily ones. Is there any site where you can access this kind of information for a system. Have got approval for feed-in tariff but grant now an option after budget changes. Trying to decide if better to go for grant or feed-in tariff with no grant. Thanks

    Not dairy, but sheep/cattle

Is your yard on a connection to the house or its own separate connection?

The production this time of year in them hours is practically nothing, high summer it's 2-3 kw on a clear day.

You could consider pre heating your hot water or batteries.

There is also a Seai grant now for businesses. If the house runs the yard the seai one covers that too (I went that route because it was much simpler) €2400 max grant

I have 8kwp on a NE/SW shed quite flat, walkable)

I know with tams your not meant to export but not sure how it's done, likely just an export limit on the inverter... Which could be just turned off when all is passed.

Pm me and I can get you a link to my monitoring you can look back through the last 2 yrs.

I just realised that today marks the first full year of my solar install journey. I got installed on the 7th last year - but i guess it was only a half day so today marks a complete years worth of usage. Am i happy? - over the damn moon.

I run a Day/Night meter and I load shift as much as possible. Based on my stats with EI since March, the units I am importing are 60% at Night time rate. My 5Kw battery helps here.

My best month for efficency was actually June. I generated more in August but imported 2 more Kw that month - so June wins. July I was on holidays so i wont count that month - i only imported 26 units. May was pretty much that start of the GREAT production for me but even in March I started seeing a HUGE reduction in energy imprted from the grid.

My worst month was December - so I added that here for a little taste of reality! :)

I still have a few trees around the property that are probably limiting my morning production - I think i could easily pass 5mWh in a year but Ill probably leave it for now.

Would I change anything? 2 actually.

I could have added 5 more panels on install day - and I may just do that one day. I added an Eddi this year - and I do love it - but if it was a choice between those 5 panels versus an eddi id go with the panels everytime.

The battery I got was a 5Kw and based on prices today and the "promise" of FIT - i would not bother getting one. However I am happy with the one I got and i couldnt imagine not having one for no other reason than covering the gaps of sunshine from clouds.

Big thanks to all that helped me get here on this forum!

I dont have a Graph for the Eddi - but I installed it at the end of April 2022. I have used 455Kw in total since then. I dont have a breakdown between boosts versus free sunshine. If anyone knows how that display works that would be great. That works out at about 3Kw per day. I boost in the mornings instead of using oil from May thru October. Im only starting to swap to oil now that its getting colder. Oil burner was not turned on to heat DHW since I got the eddi installed.

Produced 386kWh in Sept on a 5.6kW system.

is it possible with Solis to split out the energy you use at night rate and at day rate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,988 ✭✭✭paulbok

Don't think so. It would be great if they could do hourly bar charts per day, like what they do for the daily/monthly usage.

4.46kWp SW facing system in North Co. Dublin with 5kWh battery, Eddi, and Zappi car charger.

October 2022 generation was 273kWh with 67% self-consumption. Worst day was 19th at 0kWh (yes, you read that right) and best was 17th at 18kWh. Self-consumption should be higher but had issues with the Eddi losing signal. I've added an extension aerial a few days ago which seems to be working well so far.

    Roscommon, 4550Wp, Azimuth: 136° (SE), Slope: 24°

Worst day is due to a scheduled 8hr power outage (which triggered the fireman switch) -- probably would have been best day. Real worst day should be the 31st @ 1.4 kWh

Maybe I should stop looking until March!

Generation down on last year by ~20%

    Best day – 18th, 20.6kWh

    Worst day - 29th, 1.4kWh

Funnily enough my generation in October 2021 was only 0.2kWh different. But given that I've gone from 6.2kWp to 7.44kWp, October has been a turd.

Fell 47.5kWh short of prediction, so only 84% of what I had hoped. August hit 115% and September 114% though so it's all good.

    Estimate for November is 130kWh.

No shading at all when I check back both strings are performing at a similar level. I am the other side of the city. Looking back that day on the 19th I generated 1kwh where you produced 4kwh.

21 panels so there will always be a slight deviation between strings.

    Hi fellow Solar folk.

Figures for the month of October with a 4Kw system on an even East:West split based in South Dublin. No battery:

    Total generated: 190.05 kWh

    Highest day:  1st October, 10.56kWh

Lowest day: 19th October 0.47 kWh (note: that was the day it absolutely lashed all day and we’d thunder and lightning, though I consoled myself that the panels got a good wash 😀)

Pleased to report we received the full SEAI grant last month of €2,400 too.

Myself and Jonathan have similar systems, both in Dublin about 10-15 miles apart......but on dark grey days he'd always struggle to match my output (sub 1-2Kwhr), but on sunny days in winter, his south facing as opposed to my E/W would demolish my output.

I don't think we ever definitively sorted it out the reason (which galls me), but the best theory was that some panels are simply better at converting ambient light into power and/or my inverter was better at dealing with dealing with ambient light than his.

It was consistent too - but more of a point of interest rather than either of us having a "fault" as such.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,322 ✭✭✭✭Ha Long Bay

About the same in May it seems:

    Probably just random clouds

    It's all down-hill from here 12 panels shaded until mid-Feb 😭

Generated 413 kWh for October for my 6.1 kWh system. Cork, South Facing.

Only used 44% of it and put that down to working in the office for all of the month until I get my working from home sorted. As a result I was not able to charge the EV on the few good days we had. Last October I generated 435 kWh so not that far off

I must chase up those Feckers in ESBN to get my Smart meter installed so I can get the full benefit for the Feed in Tarriff and use the extra low nigh rate

Are either of you charging your battery from the grid at night. Because the generation is way over estimated for the following day unless the solar generation exceeds what you charged the battery by. For example if you charged the battery last night look at your generation today in the solis app and see if it checks out.

I have my system on Standby from 23:00 - 23:59 and then charge my batteries from 00:00 - 07:59.

It makes the figures cleaner and easier to see when all charging and discharging in the same 24hr cycle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,568 ✭✭✭bullit_dodger

I've a Givenergy system and Jonathan a Solis one as I recall - and that was a part of the logic I mentioned previously. One inverter may have different algorithm to squeeze out a few extra watts out the panels over another. The other thing is that some panels just are better at diffuse light than others.

No, this wasn't a reporting thing I think - but I do raise it to keep in mind when comparing similar system. You can't just look at the dark days and if you have a difference, you have a problem. You should also look at the bright clear days in the same month and compare those. If you have a difference there also and you have the same aspect/orientation, then you could have a problem alright.

The reason i mentioned it was that solis reports the battery charge as generation, when its not really generation

Solis cloud app is wrong but you can use the Solis Home app and get the correct numbers.

    ..... tldr

Actually they are both correct... the issue is the daily reporting for gen includes import at night rate as day gen. But the monthly number only includes sunshine captured. I just checked October, and they both match.

    October 22

    543 kWh generated

From November on can see me charging battery 50-80% on night rate as month progresses but was surprised at October results as expected to be importing more on night rate that month but managed to get through without having to charge battery. Shame with balancing still pull handful of units as pinergy day rate is ridiculously high.

    124kw exported @ 21c (€26.04)

    10kw imported @ 43c (€4.30)

    2kw imported @ 6c (12c)

    Profit on units €21
