I'm a few episodes in and I can't recommend this enough.

What do an Irish priest, an IRA man turned comic book dealer, and a retired New York cop have in common? In 1993, they were implicated in one of the biggest heists in American history, the theft of $7.4m in cash from a Brinks vault in New York. This GoLoud Original podcast chronicles the remarkable story of the 1993 Rochester Brinks heist, bringing us inside the FBI hunt for those responsible, and on an epic journey from the IRA Blanket Protests of Long Kesh prison to the underground casinos of Manhattan, the world of comic books, and into the lives of the fascinating cast of characters...

Thanks for the heads up on this...it hadn't come up on my radar at all.

Really good series (after a slightly clunky opener)....would make an interesting movie/TV series

This is excellent - Wisdom From The Top with Guy Raz

    From NPR

From the creator of How I Built This, host Guy Raz invites you to listen in as he talks to leadership experts and the visionary leaders of some of the world's biggest brands. Along the way, you'll hear accounts of crisis, failure, turnaround, and triumph, as the leaders reveal their secrets on their way to the top. These are stories that didn't make it into their company bios, and valuable lessons for anyone trying to make it in business.

    Hunting Warhead https://podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/hunting-warhead/id1480270157

(I missed this when it came out last year) 'How do you take down a criminal network that’s hidden in the shadows? How do you rescue child abuse victims who could be anywhere in the world? Hunting Warhead follows the journalists and police on a global mission to expose the darkest corners of the internet. What they discover shocks them. Host Daemon Fairless tracks down the investigators, survivors and criminals themselves. A co-production of CBC Podcasts and the Norwegian newspaper VG.'

It's a bit heavy but fascinating and also good that there are people out there tackling this.

+1 for this. Just need to be selective as to which episodes to listen to because I never heard of most of the guests.

one of the founders of Mailchimp is interviewed plus the guy behind Lulu Lemon

Just started on "Behind The B*stards" they did a 3 part on The Famine and I'm half way through another 3 parter on John Wayne. It's American hosts and their accents can be a bit hard to listen to at times but the content is OK. They have nearly 500 episodes up covering people in public life who were, b*stards to other people. Featured are Kissenger, the Moonies, Dr Oz, Jacob Wohl etc, some interesting characters.

    Anyone listening to Batman Unburied?

Not sure what to make of it yet tbh but it's something different.

Also different is the Wagatha Christie podcast from the BBC.... normally allergic to this kind of thing but something about the story is strangely compelling.

Hard to comprehend really how utterly vacuous and stupid people can be and how the legal fees could be put to endless better uses....it should be a wake up call but probably won't be

I came across a Podcast called Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast. Recently they had Louis CK on for 4 episodes talking about US Presidents. I like Louis so found it very enjoyable. It's about 6 hours in total.

BBC4 this week released a 10 part podcast series called Unreal: A Critical History of Reality TV. My fondness for and fascination with reality TV makes this ideal listening.

I’ve been quite enjoying The Rest is Politics.

Political podcast between Rory Stewart and Alistair Campbell.

Is there anything remotely comparable for Irish politics. Non-partisan look at politics of the week kinda stuff?

I've been binging on The 27 Club over the past week. If you liked "Badlands" - which has the same host, Jake Brennan - you'll love this deep dive into the seedy underbellies of entertainment. My only gripe is with the totally irrelevant ads - yes "Committed", I'm looking at you and your "Live, Love, Laugh" signs and "wine o'clock" Facebook statuses.

Unusual suspects is a good listen,

Although i feel there is way ore to the story that Sam is unwilling to reveal,

Any one listened to GUBU? I havent but have heard that it is overproduced and overlong with lots of needless repetition.

That would be my criticism of it too. It is very good and I would recommend it. The narrator has some particularly strange pronunciations at times especially of place names. Fascinating story and one I never knew much about but it could've easily been covered in half the time.

Not sure if I've given these before but sure better twice than not at all:

Maintenance Phase - debunks the many, many diet myths and fads.

Who shat on the floor at my wedding - investigation into the crime of the century :)

    Good Ship BrewDog

"Punk" CEO James Watt built a £2bn business, then controversy struck. The Captain is accused of leading a culture of fear and more, so can he steer the Good Ship through the storm?

A good listen for anyone interested in Business startup stories or the brewing/Beer industry

    Persona: The French Deception

What does it feel like to pick up the phone and scam someone out of $50 million? This is the story of Gilbert Chikli, one of the greatest con artists of all time. Host and award-winning journalist Evan Ratliff investigates how Chikli duped some of the world’s most powerful people into handing over their fortunes.

He explores how Chikli evaded the law for years and became a Robin Hood-like hero. More than just a tale of criminal genius, this is a show about the moment we’re living in right now — the golden age of scammers — and the power of seduction. But what happens when the fantasy we’ve been lured into finally crumbles away?

Podcasts I listen to which haven't been mentioned in past 15 pages or so:

    Politics:

Oh God, what now ? / The Bunker / The New European Podcast: Leftie/ anti-tory Brits talking politics. OGWN can be very funny at times. I don't know why Alex Andreou isn't all over TV panel shows. An approximate quote from him about the UK leaving the EU to get better trade deals : "it's like a middle-aged man leaving his family, moving into a bedsit and then setting up a Tinder profile stating he is looking for women 25-years or younger."

Politics on the couch: How our psychological biases affect our political decisions

Red Lines: Excellent BBC radio Ulster podcast about goings-on up there

Brexit Republic: Excellent RTE deep-dive into the latest machinations, and the only solely Brexit-related podcast still going that I know of

Science/Philosophy: BBC In our time (Melvyn Bragg).

Theories of Everything : Maths/Physics/Consciousness. Philosophical discussion but grounded in science/maths

Comedy: Club random: Bill Maher having informal chats with his guests in his home while drinking & toking. His Real Time HBO show also has it's own podcast.

Beyond the Scenes. The hilarious Roy Wood Jr. from The Daily show (Trevor Noah) drills down into some of the spots from The daily show, with the producers of the spots.

Sport; Shift F1: the best Formula 1 podcast

Tech: Security Now: If you are interested in security & privacy of your computer/phone/ internet of things (random stuff like doorbells & thermostats you connect to your private network) . Very long-running pod. Informative & entertaining .

Docu: Slow Burn : Very deep dive into historical American topics like the murders of Tupac & Biggie, Rodney King, the Iraq invasion, Watergate

Misc: That UFO Podcast. Started following this after the 60 minutes TV episode showing the videos captured by US navy pilots and interviews with the pilots & others. It also follows the congressional hearings and task forces that have been set up. I like it because they mostly limit their interviews to people who aren't way out on the fringes, including ex-military etc.

Started listening to "last man standing" about a journalist who went into Syria in 2012 and and was captured. While alot of other journalists who were caught they were either released or beheaded. He was last seen in a video released by ISIS

Just started "Who killed Daphne" about a Maltese journalist who was killed after she had been exposing government officials. Very interesting so far

This is very sad and infuriating in equal measure. It's about an American NFL player who had chronic concussions and also murdered some people. It's the Boston Globe Spotlight team so not too padded.

that guy was a bad egg from the start tbh

there were a couple of other podcasts on his story already

is the angle here that his behaviour is being put down to just concussion?
