Just used the central cup holder for a 12oz reusable cup earlier, and it was grand. Though I was just carrying a single coffee to another location, and not trying to drink out of it while driving. Will bring a second cup out later and test it in the driveway for you!

I could have had the charger installed end of last week/earlier this week, but due to the general hecticness of this week I'd booked it in for next week before I knew the car would be here. The SEAI letter of offer came through within an hour. You'll need to give the garage and your installer your MPRN for the grant, so it would be handy to make a note of it on your phone now, if you haven't already.

The built in SatNav is being weird, but I've seen a fix for it online which I'll try later today. Essentially it you put in your destination, press go, it starts voice directions... but then the dot on the map doesn't move from your starting position. I've read that going into the satnav settings, switching off "dead reckoning" then resetting the info system by pushing down and holding the physical "home" button until the MG logo appears will fix the issue.

Update: that fixed the SatNav problem great - works fine now. The voice directions are extremely loud - you can either mute them, or, while she's speaking, turn the volume down on the steering wheel. Haven't seen a way to turn the voice volume down from anywhere else while she's not speaking.

In reality I'll probably mainly be using Google Maps over Android Auto (which isn't wireless), but it's nice to have to built in one there too.

I think you can turn down the indicator sound too in settings, it comes through the speakers.

It's not called indicator noise, something more like auto notifications. Maybe the sat Nav voice is similar and just has an odd name.

It's great to see some real hands on with it. And all positive stuff too !

If you are running tight on charge and they haven't installed the charger, there should be a granny charger in the boot that can go into a normal 3 pin socket in the house.

It will take about 40 hours to charge it fully though, but if it's sitting outside all day no harm topping it up a few %.

Must try that, they are very loud. I'm generally listening to an audio book, so they don't bother me too much, but if there's no audio playing you really notice them, particularly if you're stopped at lights for a long while waiting to turn!

A few other thoughts - there doesn't appear to be any front fog lights at least. Will play around more later. Rarely need them at this time of year, but one of the places I frequently go is prone to very dense fog pockets, even when everywhere else is clear.

I finally did the configure screen - it takes 2 seconds - it's just select your language and timezone. I'd already changed the timezone through other settings as the clock was out by an hour. Had postponed doing the configuration in case it took ages.

Wireless charging works fine, even through my wallet style phone cover.

The reason the radio plays initially is because it takes the phone a few seconds to connect, so when it can't find bluetooth it defaults to radio. I might try tune it in to a dead channel that won't deafen me. I also need to get used to the fact that the audio keeps playing even when you've turned the car off, and only stops when you lock the doors from outside.

Even though I've frequently driven automatics before, the dial (instead of a forward/back stick) is taking me a while to get used to. Twice I've tried to drive off in neutral, and wondered what's wrong.

I really like the autohold. The garage guy suggested leaving it off, but I'm keeping it on. Unlike other autos I've driven, there's no major delay in moving off when autohold is on.

While it's not a normal service they offer, the garage I bought from are close by and have offered a once off fast charge using their facilities if I get stuck before the charger is installed. My next door neighbour also has an existing charger that will reach my car for an overnight charge if I'm desperate. I might give the granny cable a try just out of curiosity over the weekend. Realistically though, my mileage between now and mid next week will be pretty low, just due to circumstances this particular week.

Great call - I'd seen lots of videos with people mentioning the loud indicators, but nothing that said you could change it.

Under volume settings you can turn down the indicator noise with "Vehicle Alerts". Immediately under that there's "Voice guidance".

Not yet, have been glued to the phone for the last few days. Had hoped to get a call to say you can get it on X day. Rather than getting a call when it is ready. I'll need to clean out the existing one and I'm about a 90min - 2 hour round trip so need to plan that around work and kids etc.

Collecting tomorrow. As long as nothing else delays us I should be driving home in my new MG after 5. So close I can finally let myself get excited.

It's my first ever brand new car, might be my last, will see how the world looks in 3 years.

Delighted for you GP! I'd be very excited too, I'll be next to Linders at the weekend for pet food so might pop in to remind myself of the car.

Looking forward to hearing some more real world experiences.

Longer drive home and took the family for a spin after dinner. Still need to find time to set up android auto and look into playing videos off a USB. Will keep the kids quite if I'm parked up.

Overall it's lovely, on eco mode it was pushing 460km range. Sport mode was a bug jump in power, ended up putting it in normal. Don't need to save the range and sport was a bit too much until I get used to it.

Lots of getting used to it, 360 camera , the new driving position, the new layout and the new tech.

Got some time messing with it. found out you can watch movies/TV shows on the infotainment system. Just stick an MP4 file on a USB and plug it in. Swipe right on the main screen and select video. Click the video you want and watch away :)

Had frozen and Sing on.....you know for the kids 🤣.

It won't play if you try to drive off, but if you are ever stuck waiting out side the shops, or like in the past for 2 hours waiting on a ferry to board. It could be good to have a movie to watch.

Got Android Auto working too. This is my first time having a car with support for that. Spotify works much better than via the bluetooth route.

Had a good spin today, did around 70km. I had a few trips to shops to do.

I also wanted to head into town and make sure the esb fast charger/account was all set up and running.

I got there with 90% and plugged in. But it kept stopping. Took me a while to cop that it has a default setting in the car to only charge to 80%, with the top 20% reserved for long journeys.

Once I'd moved the gauge in the charge screen to 100%, it worked no bother. it only charged at 22kw, I assume due to being over 80%. So I didn't hang around. Grabbed a bottle of water in the shop. Only stuck in €1:60 worth and took off. I only needed to make sure it worked.

Few great things, like watching TV while it charged is a great option. I could see it being a good idea to have a few comedy shows that are in the 22-30mins range.

Pull in, plug in, watch a show, and head off.

    Few very odd things.

It has intelligent speed sensor that reads speed signs and slows you down. But you have to turn it on every time from the settings. If you forget to do it, you need to pull in and do it, as it's a few menus deep. Even then it's only readied, you still need to press the button on the stalk to activate it.

When you turn on MG pilot it turns it off! You would think it would be more important when you have cruise control on and could wizz by a speed sign without seeing it.

Radio. If you press the music icon on the screen it opens a screen with Bluetooth and usb music, but no radio option?. I have to press the SVC button on the steering wheel to flick to radio. Or hit home and then press the radio on screen.

Kers resetting and drive mode resetting is annoying and then the radio volume not resetting is daft on the other side.

I don't know if you can set a preset or anything but that gets a bit fiddly. A lot of the time I was changing mode, kers, radio, settings, turning on MG pilot, getting scared and turning it off again.

Still a lovely drive. The sun roof was great today.

    Install 'tune in' android.

    'ok Google play whatever fm'

No need to be pricking around with radio channels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,479 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Will give it a shot, although I'm not getting on great with android auto. Seems to randomly stop and start. I'll have to look into it a bit more.

You've 2 months to get all the fiddly things figured out before I hopefully get my car!! Please and thanks.

Re android auto, make sure you have a good cable. I have it in my current car, it's great but does need a good cable and connection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,479 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

I'll bring out the cable off the phone see if it helps.

It always seems to just randomly change. I'll be on the radio and get a message and Spotify will turn on 😂

Was looking at a little wireless adapter too. That can sit there and not have to worry about a big cable sticking out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,577 ✭✭✭budhabob

I was looking at those adapters too. May grab one down the line, current phone doesnt have wireless charging.

Saw my first facelift in the wild today, blue on the M50,was great to see.

Has anyone else gotten dates of delivery in August or September? The last update we had was October.

Drives like a dream, can’t get over how quiet it is or how fast it can accelerate.

How come it only charges to 80%? Also I’ve read conflicting views that it’s better to leave it at 80 unless you need the range?! Anybody with a good link to charging instructions and advice and general Q&A?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,479 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

On the screen if you bring up the charging screen (picture of the car and a big green bar). There is a line that says 80% if you just press the bar at 100% it will move up.

They reckon fully charging batteries isn't great for long term health. If you are only pottering around you can leave it at 80, if you have a long journey you can charge to 100.

I'm dubious about how much it protects the battery. I've also heard different things. There is two types of battery. The short range one uses a different tech that handles 100% charges better. But our one has the longer range but they recommend 80%.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,479 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

I found the issue with Android Auto. You need to give the Apps Auto Start permissions. Other wise you get an error that says "Spotify does not seem to be working at the moment". Once you set that permission on your phone the car can start Spotify etc.

The range is great, in my head, 400km isn't that much but I've been tipping around for the bones of 6 days now and I still have 66% left. I prob have done more trips than usual too as I'm always mad to drive it and hopping in and going for a spin. The kids now get a trip each in the car too which is nice to get some one-on-one time with them.

I reckon I'll be charging every 2 to 2.5 weeks at this rate.

The autostart tip actually solves an existing issue for me with Android auto on my current car. nice one

Spoke to dealer today, I'm looking at mid September at earliest, car hasn't left China yet, car was ordered January 6th by my cousin but he bailed and I'm taking it

My Boards usage is very intermittent at the moment, so I'm just catching up.

@Grumpypants - my KERs doesn't reset - I stuck it on 3 fairly early, and it stays there (I'm getting used to the semi-one pedal driving, but still have my foot hovering over the brake!) I've kept MG Pilot on, I particularly like it in traffic jams. If a hypothetical person was driving faster than the posted speed sign, the speed sign flashes in the display, so that hypothetical person can slow down by themselves (or tip the stalk down to the new speed in CC).

I just got my home charger installed today, and it seems fine so far. In general the default is to charge up to 80%, unless you're planning a long journey, in which case you can up it in the car or in the app to "long journey"/100%

I've had problems disconnecting the charger at ESB and at an office destination charger. I haven't quite figured out what I'm doing wrong. Charging has stopped, and the car is unlocked, but I couldn't pull out the plug, then suddenly after a few minutes I could. Haven't needed to charge much yet (the main charging has been for test purposes), so I presume I'll get used to it.

Android auto is a bit hit and miss for me - again it may be a cheap cable. What I've found is that I'll be following google maps directions, and the next thing the phone will just completely disconnect (and won't reconnect with bluetooth either). If anyone finds a suitable dongle I'd love to know!

I've got a Samsung S20+, and for the life of me can't find anywhere to set "auto start".

Still loving the car, though the silence still takes me by surprise.

Auto start should be on your phone in

    > Settings

    > apps

    > permissions

    > Auto start.

    > Pick the apps.

To unlock the charger. If you sit into the car and turn it on. (You can turn it on while charging). Then bring up the charging screen ( the screen with the green battery bar).

Just below the green bar to the right is a tiny little lock symbol. You have to press that to unlock the cable. It will change to show as the lock open, but you need good eyes to see it 😂

The kers is on 3 for me too. It takes a little getting used to. I've found if it is too harsh you can tip the accelerator and it will reduce it. My old car used to just turn off the braking the second you tipped it.

I think when on 3 if you look at the right dial on the dash it will say -19. Then you can tip the accelerator and bring that down to -11ish, still get some charge but the braking is less severe. Until you need to stop.
