Flew through it, if youve watched it before, you'd still like it...

Watched first episode of new series....top notch as usual.

I couldn't stand Jemima Kirke in girls but she is terrific here!

    Oh plus amazing song choices

Have watched the first 3 episodes and i'm rather nonplussed. Seems to be trying too hard to be "woke." Writing decidedly average too.

Maybe it'll improve or maybe i'm expecting too much cause the first two series were great.

Just finished it there. There were a few good episodes but some of the character development was bad. I can see this getting one more season just to have them finish school especially given what happens in the last episode.

    Regarding the last episode

So , looks like Jakob is not the father and it's probably the motorcycle guy, pretty bad writing in fairness. The whole Maeve and Otis thing felt rushed and with off to the US, I've a feeling she won't be in the next season if there is one.

Jasus yer one Viv lost a serious amount of weight since season 2.

So, finished this a couple days ago and.....

Thought it was pretty terrible overall. Maybe redeemed slightly by the last couple of episodes but only slightly. Maybe i hold the first 2 series in too high a pedestal though.

Storyline (or lack of it) was pretty outrageous at times. Writing very poor and really dislikable characters IMO. And i thought they'd done a pretty good job with the characters especially the unlikable ones up to the end of S2.

Viv, the non Binary wan, the new headmistress - all very annoying IMO. Eric too.Otis just seemed wooden.

Headmaster Groff's character, while going on a bit of a redemption, went nowhere in the end.

Just full of gross out humour; which i accept is needed but there was just too much of it.

    And the goat? WTF.

    i agree to a point.

    the goat was stupid

cal was a stupid adition. far to one dimentional charicter. they should have used one of the background charicters that we already were familier with and explain the reasons for it a lot better. i wasnt sure if cal and jackson were having a romance or bromance .

viv anoys me. she was great last season but this season she was a bitch and showed that she would do anything to get ahead.

the headmistress was stupid. far to much of a racist, homophobe etc. and what was with the musical. they had her over a barrel with the recording and the hanging signs around their necks. and the locking cal in a room. they could have had her arrested or fired but they did that stupid plan and made themselves look even worse instead of the headmistresss

i liked michael groffs arc but it didnt go anywhere as you say. seems a shame. hopefully setting up s4 . bad form not showing maurine as being part of the problem . they portray all the relationship issues as his fault

not keen of maeve at the end there. why wasnt she there for otis while his mother is fighting for her life. maeve went to school and just text him. otis would have been there for her just like he was for her abortion

not sure where otis s mothers pregnancy dna results are going. surely they wont go down the road of it not being jacobs baby. he had a good arc at the end and showed his back story

Yeah season 3 was disappointing alright. A few funny moments but nowhere near as good as the first 2 seasons. I think the new headmistress character had a lot of potential but they made a balls of it.

Such a terribly written character. First she came in wanting Otis and Maeve to continue the sex school then went into psycho prude mode a couple episodes later. Mad!

Seems I’m in the majority here in that season 3 was poor. I mean at the end of season 2 they had imo some good storylines to build of but for whatever reason it seemed a slapdash. I’m assuming the filming of season 3 was delayed by covid, because it felt like the writers overthought things with extra time.

Finished season 3 I seem to be in the minority but I really enjoyed it. The highlight was definitely episode 5. But I enjoyed the others. I found that last episode quite emotional.

    Roll on season 4.

Watched it over the past few months, still enjoyed it. The headmaster not lasting was always going to be the case. The finale was heavily based on departures - actual, behavioural and so on. We need to see more of Groff's cooking. Good that he stood up to his brother in the penultimate one too.

Finally got round to watching season 3, and I seem to be in the minority to think it was an improvement on a poor season 02.

Yeah Ola and Olivia are not coming back either. I wonder if Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa will be in the next series or even for part of it since they are both in the new Barbie Movie and Ncuti is the new Doctor Who. I definitely think next season will be the last

Dan Levy has joined the cast. Looks like it will be showing Maeve in the US too

It had a good run, I hope they do end it although Netflix does seem to either cancels shows too early or drag them out past their sell-by.

Final season coming September 21st. Makes complete sense that it's ending now

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,578 ✭✭✭OmegaGene

people are moaning that it is ending but they are meant to be in school so it is fair to say the series wasn't going to go on like walking dead

    What a disappointment.

So they drop rounded and interesting characters to bring in a load of one season caricatures. The only highlight there was seeing Jack Gleeson back on screen, after Geoffrey.

Otis is a dickhead all season. Ignores Eric, sabotages an existing service, is selfish towards Maeve, strings Ruby along, and loses all advice mojo.

Maeve has zero character growth. She's in the exact same place she was after season 3. Her mother's funeral episode was a bloody disaster (at least they had theidea of bringing the only caring teachers back, for a cameo). Her treatment of friends and Otis was worse than her isolationism of season 1, even with the clichéd challenges they throw at her.

Eric is the new prophet. Where the hell did religious hallucination/prophecy come from? He's also an ass to Eric, dropping him for the cool gang with barely a thought.

Isaac never seems to have to do anything about his actions, towards Maeve, in season 3.

Ruby is done massively dirty. Getting used by Otis as a crutch, writers building towards a reckoning between herself and Otis, only for a complete character reset where she abandons growth for a chance to hand with the cool group. People are saying her final comment was an ultimatum, to Otis, the she doesn't need him as a friend so make a decision... it definitely doesn't play that way

    Jackson's entire run was pointless

Viv is as painful as ever with a massively abrupt coercive control arc.

Cal contemplated suicide but "praise Jesus", literally, all is well now

Who gives a f*ck about the new kids ?

    O is a smarmy prick

The cool kids are one dimensional as hell

Second episode in tow and finding it hard going. Tge Otis-O thing is just plain stupid. He seems like a total loser expecting to be the only sex therapist on campus and assuming that O is copying him because he’s just so great. I wonder how he’ll deal with actually qualifying as a sex therapist down the line and all other practicing therapists not resigning en masse just because he can he the only one doing the job. They ruined what was a great show.
