The casting for Adam and his dad was absolutely insanely good.
Don't disagree with what you posted probably weakest season overall but still enjoyed it.
In the real world a school like that couldn't possibly function. You couldn't go 5 minutes without someone finding offence at something or other.
The weakest of all seasons, but I still enjoyed it.
Nice to see the Mr.Goff and Adam sort things out.
Meave was underused but her mothers death was definitely something I didn't see coming.
Otis came across mean spirited this season.
Eric becoming some new Prophet for God, also very out there and unexpected.
Liked how they approached Jean with postpartum depression. Tricky issues rarely talked about that affects so many mothers.
Always find Amiee hilarious. Brilliant character
Ruby's Road to redemption ended up pointless.
Honestly I could not give two fcuks about the new kids in the new school. Especially not for a final season of a show.
Also that school seems like an absolute nightmare to teach in.
Agree on the points with regards to the school setting. I understand using it as a basis for facilitating ideas and examining different minority groups, but **** me the characters were exhausting bores. I appreciate the efforts to really have representation, but divorcing it from reality just makes for empty pandering for me.
S4 got better towards the end, some good laughs at the funeral in particular. It explored some interesting topics, including teenage relationships and post natal depression - fairly entertaining, but definitely the right time to bring it to an end.
Just finished it there, found previous seasons better. I think they were trying to cover too many things this season. The whole O thing was ridiculous, I mean how was there no actual therapist on campus. The whole Maeve /Otis relationship could have been done better
just watched the lasat ep today. im not sure what i feel about it yet. all i can feel is disapointment.
The new school is farcical. They went totally overboard with the whole woke trans thing. Apart from that is was fairly good. Not as good as previous seasons but that was to be expected.
3 episodes in and this season is a slog. It's like they literally ripped up the last 3 seasons, kept the main characters and put them in new - very unrealistic - environments. There's been a few good laughs but where the previous seasons managed to ground the craziness in mundane, sometimes depressing backdrop with real world challenges, this is a cartoon. A world where the school is a fictional queer paradise. And I get that it's catering for an audience there (no issue with the principle of that there) but it's completely lost the grounded reality of the first 3 seasons. Is it even a school... there was one scene so far in a classroom, everything else is yoga, gym, a common area, and a load of very obviously adults acting like adults while pretending to be 17. The O storyline is dull and frustrating AF too. It feels like they messed up the setup for the final season. Given the aging actors, it would have worked better with a time jump to college. The stuff so far between Adam and his Dad, and Otis and Ruby have been the only interesting parts.
Just re-reading some older comments.
Jesus Christ but Maureen was toxic this year. She wanted to be able to fu(k around all she wanted but started to get jealous when she heard that Michael was going on a date.
Then hears therapists tell him that he needs to cut off any lingering asperations, to be able to live a healthy life, and over she comes for a shag (but don't tell anyone Michael)
Watched the whole season through. I very much enjoyed previous seasons but this was one the worst and most annoying seasons of a show I've ever seen.
Second episode in tow and finding it hard going. Tge Otis-O thing is just plain stupid. He seems like a total loser expecting to be the only sex therapist on campus and assuming that O is copying him because he’s just so great. I wonder how he’ll deal with actually qualifying as a sex therapist down the line and all other practicing therapists not resigning en masse just because he can he the only one doing the job. They ruined what was a great show.
What a disappointment.
So they drop rounded and interesting characters to bring in a load of one season caricatures. The only highlight there was seeing Jack Gleeson back on screen, after Geoffrey.
Otis is a dickhead all season. Ignores Eric, sabotages an existing service, is selfish towards Maeve, strings Ruby along, and loses all advice mojo.
Maeve has zero character growth. She's in the exact same place she was after season 3. Her mother's funeral episode was a bloody disaster (at least they had theidea of bringing the only caring teachers back, for a cameo). Her treatment of friends and Otis was worse than her isolationism of season 1, even with the clichéd challenges they throw at her.
Eric is the new prophet. Where the hell did religious hallucination/prophecy come from? He's also an ass to Eric, dropping him for the cool gang with barely a thought.
Isaac never seems to have to do anything about his actions, towards Maeve, in season 3.
Ruby is done massively dirty. Getting used by Otis as a crutch, writers building towards a reckoning between herself and Otis, only for a complete character reset where she abandons growth for a chance to hand with the cool group. People are saying her final comment was an ultimatum, to Otis, the she doesn't need him as a friend so make a decision... it definitely doesn't play that way
Jackson's entire run was pointless
Viv is as painful as ever with a massively abrupt coercive control arc.
Cal contemplated suicide but "praise Jesus", literally, all is well now
Who gives a f*ck about the new kids ?
O is a smarmy prick
The cool kids are one dimensional as hell
Some good laughs so far.
That girl who specialises in giving the "surprise" extra needs to cut her nails or wear a glove.
____
people are moaning that it is ending but they are meant to be in school so it is fair to say the series wasn't going to go on like walking dead
Final season coming September 21st. Makes complete sense that it's ending now
It had a good run, I hope they do end it although Netflix does seem to either cancels shows too early or drag them out past their sell-by.
I'd say season 4 is the last if 2 of the main cast are leaving.
This is really good.
Dan Levy has joined the cast. Looks like it will be showing Maeve in the US too
Some details on next season too
Yeah Ola and Olivia are not coming back either. I wonder if Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa will be in the next series or even for part of it since they are both in the new Barbie Movie and Ncuti is the new Doctor Who. I definitely think next season will be the last
That's a shame really fun character
Finally got round to watching season 3, and I seem to be in the minority to think it was an improvement on a poor season 02.
Watched it over the past few months, still enjoyed it. The headmaster not lasting was always going to be the case. The finale was heavily based on departures - actual, behavioural and so on. We need to see more of Groff's cooking. Good that he stood up to his brother in the penultimate one too.
Finished season 3 I seem to be in the minority but I really enjoyed it. The highlight was definitely episode 5. But I enjoyed the others. I found that last episode quite emotional.
Roll on season 4.
Seems I’m in the majority here in that season 3 was poor. I mean at the end of season 2 they had imo some good storylines to build of but for whatever reason it seemed a slapdash. I’m assuming the filming of season 3 was delayed by covid, because it felt like the writers overthought things with extra time.

Such a terribly written character. First she came in wanting Otis and Maeve to continue the sex school then went into psycho prude mode a couple episodes later. Mad!
Yeah season 3 was disappointing alright. A few funny moments but nowhere near as good as the first 2 seasons. I think the new headmistress character had a lot of potential but they made a balls of it.
