The Pushback against Leftism

I'm not at all enraged.

I don't know why people come to a discussion board if they feel that any pushback against their ideal is because of outrage.

And yes, I have no time for extreme right or extreme left positions as they are both wrong.

And yes, acknowledging flaws in both sides of the argument is a rather healthy viewpoint to take, unless you are so deeply entrenched that you think that only your side is virtuous.

Outrage is a little strong I think. It just seems to be shorthand for "doesn't agree with me" these days.

If someone dislikes something, or dislikes a portrayal of something/someone, or has questions about something it doesn't automatically mean they are outraged.

But it is a handy trick to paint people who disagree with you as "outraged". Kind of tries to shame them into silence or to make them not want to engage for fear of being misrepresented as some sort of bigot. Not great for a discussion board though.

Like Nazi, fascist, racist etc, its overused and has lost its power somewhat and probably why you recognise the same names on these topics. Some posters have no fear of false accusations due to being purposely misrepresented frequently, by ironically, a lot of the same posters who happen to be on "the other side" of the argument.

And it's the same few posters coming out with the kind of circular stuff on your side too.

Needlessly aggressive responses to simple questions, deflection, refusal to answer any question that highlights hypocrisy, false accusations of "outrage" or racism/sexism/bigotry, and eventually derailing to a point where the conversation gets shut down.

I mean, you say there is no discussion. Then why are you here? I feel there is plenty of discussion to be had. It just requires people to post honestly and answer questions truthfully.

If you genuinely think there is no discussion, then why bother coming in and derailing with snide comments about people being outraged etc.

I'm guilty of overstepping the mark and am needlessly provocative on some occasions but I try to rein it in as best I can.

But to point that out is apparently "both siding".

I'm don't think I've seen your name on a thread without it being attached to an aggressive post. You seem to be given plenty of leeway so I suppose you might as well take advantage.

I didn't expect everyone to wait faugheen. I was just voicing my opinion that it was distasteful to jump on the conservatives love guns point-scoring before the news had fully emerged about a tragedy. Seeing people trip over themselves to be the first to stick it to the conservatives before it had even been confirmed what happened was distasteful. Nothing to do with my politics.

Simply my opinion. You obviously feel differently. You do you.
