Oh Jesus Christ that replay of Leclerc is even worse. He slowed right the **** down and looked like he was waiting for confirmation to come in.

Which is fair, he had a real chance of victory today when to be fair it wasn't his best weekend - not great in quali or the race today (other than his battle with Lewis and that fantastic overtake) - sloppy overtake attempt on Perez early on didn't do him any favours. Bit of a mixed weekend for him imo.

Absolutely, as was just shown, he could have pitted, they had pleanty of time to make the call before he went past the pit entry,

Justice that Perez came back to overtake Leclerc after Leclerc's reckless move down the inside earlier on in the race damaged Perez' car.

Deserved driver of the day for Perez.

What a race! Delighted for Sainz, has had some back luck recently but Ferrari need to sort themselves out, Leclerc has every reason to be annoyed - I had kind of assumed he missed the pit lane on the safety car but I just saw that wasn’t the case, so it seems they wanted to split strategy with very few laps left “just because”. It doesn’t matter how good the car is if they keep hamstringing themselves they’ll never win the championship.

Not a bad day for Red Bull all things considered, Perez did very well on the last restart and it was a brilliant battle between himself, Hamilton and Leclerc at the end, while there was some great defence from Max to keep P7.

The crash looked horrific so its great to see Zhou is completely fine.

Race of the year so far, let’s hope for more of that!

Argh that must've been frustrating as feck for him. I wonder could he have made the decision for them and just pitted himself, would he have come out just behind Carlos & Lewis if they had not pitted - I would have preferred that option than staying out on shite tyres.

Lando really loving the crowd interaction, he's a funny kinda guy.

Nothing to do with Max not being involved.

It was mentioned that it was floor damage which is pretty damaging.

Lewis getting in a little dig at Max, referencing last year.

    Here fixed that for you

That's because atm Max's car is streets ahead of the next best car. He would've cruised to victory today had his car not failed him again

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,480 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

Yeah that was unfortunate. When they were showing that overtake earlier the first thing that came to mind was look how far to the right Lewis was compared to last year... Anyway, different circumstances.

Maxs car isn’t though? Clearly it’s very close between RB and Ferrari, but out of the 4 drivers in those teams Max is clearly the best driver.

Well done to Carlos, finally getting the monkey off his back. He may not be the fastest but he is consistent and a likeable character.

Does anyone one know what happened to Bottas? Last we saw him he was stopped in the pit at an awkward angle

If teams were properly run, and in this case it's not just Ferrari, they should always be completely ready for a pitstop with certain tyres depending on how long is left in the race. Merc and Red Bull have had issues in the past, it's something I can't really fathom. Once the expected last stops are made and the mechanics have little left to do surely (numbers are examples, will vary by track) if you have load of tyres left you should have a set of Mediums ready with e.g. 20 laps left, once it goes to 12/13 to go have the softs ready. Watch the timing screen, once the gap is big enough (and it probably only needs to be half what it would be at race pace) the drivers are told they're in the pit window. Seems fairly simple to me with the dozens and dozens of people watching on screen in the garage.

Aye, at the end of the day he's 11 points of Leclerc now. Much of that down to the team but he's kept plugging away. He needs a decent run til the break to get back on terms with Leclerc.

I suppose it’s easy to say sitting on the couch, as soon as I saw Ocon slowing up I thought Ferrari better be getting two sets of softs ready and would have called box as soon as the SC was deployed, as would most of us! But it’s a different pressure sitting on the wall making that call! In saying that! In saying that. It was a total f**k up from Ferrari today. They pitted Sianz so we know they must have thought about it with LEC too and for some brainfart reason decided not to!

Alonso not happy with Leclerc, saying he was weaving on the straight defending against Hamilton...?

Should be even more possible when the ban on tyre blankets comes in. The lads will probably be sitting on them to get some heat in them.

We'll see teams with half a dozen 100kg mechanics whose only job is throwing the tyres at each other as hard as they can.

But as mentioned above, it's not. The Ferrari and the Red Bull's seems fairly well matched, and even Verstappen's record over the past 2-3 seasons is an absolutely crazy level of consistent. When he's finished in an undamaged car his worst finishing position has been 3rd - which only happened once since 2020. You have to go back to Turkey in 2020 (a race in which he spun and required an extra pit stop) to find the last time he finished off podium in an undamaged car.

Very much hoping Leclerc can win the title this year, but I personally don't think there's any driver aside from Hamilton that can rival Verstappen's consistency. Scary to think he's only 24 as well.. If gets the same longevity that Hamilton got in a top car he can definitely add a considerable number of WDC's to his tally.

You mean Lewis acknowledging he was at fault last year because this time around he actually made the apex

Maybe i'm missing something but why didn't they pit Lec on the second safety lap? May have dropped to third but should still have been way ahead of Perez?

Karun Chandhok asked Binotto directly, Binotto reckoned they didn't have time and they chose to pit Sainz as LeClerc had track position.

Karun said at first it was 9 seconds, then said 4.6 and that Sainz could have backed them up but Binotto skirted around it sticking to the merits in what they had done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,569 ✭✭✭recyclebin

Ferrari hedged there bets. If they pitted both drivers then they may not have won the race.

Ferrari have messed up many races in the past but I don't think you could blame them for what they did this time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,483 ✭✭✭standardg60

    Question.

What happens between the time the safety car is deployed and the time it picks up the leader? VSC deltas? In which case Lec should have been able to pit next time around and still emerge as leader. Assume the SC then travels at less than deltas which allows the field to back up? Lapped cars when unlapping themselves must be still on VSC deltas?

Unbelievable drive from Max that. P7 in a car slower than Latifi. Those points could be crucial later on.

Those points won't be crucial at all I think come the end of the season. Max will win the championship and Red Bull too - both a fair bit ahead of the challengers. The longer it is competitive the better but he will surely pull away.
