Sainz had plenty of time to push and get away from LeClerc, but he couldn't. When he eventually let LeClerc through Charles built up a decent lead. Had they let LeClerc through earlier he could've built a larger lead which would've given more time to allow a double stack if required. No one knew a SC was coming but the delay played right into Hamilton's handss I whatever way you look at it, the delay was a bad call from Ferrari. What's the point in holding up a faster car?

On the 10 car lengths at the end, I do agree, Sainz was right to deny the request. If LeClerc had 20 lengths he'd still have been caught.

I thought the safety car denied Hamilton the win.

He had much better tyres, was hunting down the Ferrari's and Checo was too far behind.

When Checo bunched up and new tyres on with the others as well Hamilton just wasn't quick enough.

I think the point if the 10 car-lengths was to prevent Charles being swallowed up at the restart. He had worn hard tyres and were presumably cooler than everyone else's new softs. He was always going to lose the lead, I think they just didn't want him to be swallowed up and lose several places on the first lap.

Happy Sainz stood up for himself. Ferrari should have switched the cars far sooner though. If they didn't want to interfere too much they could have arranged to uve the place back if they were running one ahead of the other at the end.

Turns out being the leader at the safety car meant you wouldn't get the pitstop and were doomed anyway.

Ferrari made largely the right calls apart from the 3 they got wrong? :P

Max is reckless in wheel-to-wheel racing. There was egregious stuff even back against Ricciardo and he loves running people off the road. Hamilton for years got away with some ridiculous dive-bombs but has reined it in a bit. Verstappen hasn't had cause to yet.

The Indo have an article about the crash and the headline is “Roadside Formula One footage captures shocking crash”. It’s trackside you gimps

The next race will tell us a lot I think. Yes Hamilton was banging in fastest laps but Leclerc was missing some front wing and Max's car was banjaxed altogether and they are the 3 drivers you would expect to be putting in fastest laps so we'll see. I suspect they've made a step but are still 3rd fastest. They were always going to pull out all the stops for their home race.

Did anymore come from the protesters yesterday? Arrested or fined? If there wasn't a red flag, it could have been horrific if a car hit one of them

Was too busy taking photos of the leading cars to see what was actually happening right in front of me

A bit of the carnage at T1

    GP1.jpg

I wondered what Russell was up to when he jumped out of his car and ran towards the barrier

    GP2.jpg

Then it became clear there was an Alfa Romeo behind the barrier

    Zhou Guanyu 2.jpg

That halo can take the weight of a double decker bus and did one hell of a job yesterday

Their article about the crash Fassbender had in qualifying for Le Mans was as bad. Clearly written by someone who had never seen a motor race.

I think they outsource their articles from The Daily Telegraph.

Remember when Declan Quigley, RTÉ's pitlane reporter, was their correspondent.

    This too shall pass.

Perez was well into the points before the safety car.

On your second point, I agree.

The failure of the roll hoop is hopefully something they will look at, thought this video explained it well, and another below which explains the loads a bit better. Also good track runoff and fencing so the car didn't end up in the grandstand
