A little bit behind finally getting around to watching this.

Massively over the top with some scenes that obviously are not at all possible but I was thoroughly engaged for the full 3 hours , and it didn't feel anything like that runtime. Good story, good character development, good minor twists, pretty good CGI, really nice landscapes and visuals and a satisfying ending....Hollywood could certainly learn a few lessons from this.

I watched Keep Sweet:Pray and Obey over the weekend, man its grim. Excellent television but the last clip they play from the courts had me shook and was a bit much. Once you hear Warren Jeffs voice it can't be unheard.

Netflix has confirmed that it plans to introduce adverts at a new, lower-priced tier.

The streaming giant has previously been adamant that it would not bring adverts into its service, but a range of factors have caused it to reconsider. In the first three months of this year, the company lost 200,000 subscribers, its first net loss of paid customers, and that sudden dip has sparked a wave of rapid adjustments and rethinks, with projects cancelled and a renewed rhetoric on trying to crack down on password sharing between customers.

There’s a wider problem, though – read our full analysis here – as Netflix attempts to fend off competition from a growing number of rivals, many of which are taking away its previously licensed third party titles. With the streamer therefore investing heavily in its own original content that can remain exclusive, and with costs going up due to a range of factors, it has upped its monthly fees to the point where many are clearly looking to cancel and save their bank balance – especially at a time when the cost of living crisis is hitting household budgets hard.

Now, Netflix is looking for a way to keep people subscribed by doing what it previously ruled out: a new ad-supported subscription tariff, that will carry a lower price tag.

Co-CEO Ted Sarandos announced the news at the Cannes Lions advertising conference: “We’ve left a big customer segment off the table, which is people who say: ‘Hey, Netflix is too expensive for me and I don’t mind advertising,’” he said. “We [are] adding an ad tier; we’re not adding ads to Netflix as you know it today. We’re adding an ad tier for folks who say, ‘Hey, I want a lower price and I’ll watch ads.’”

Netflix has been in talks at Cannes Lions with advertising companies, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that NBCUniversal and Google are frontrunners for likely partners.

The move comes as Disney+ plans to launch its own ad-supported tier in the USA later this year, before rolling it out in 2023.

What do you think someone who liked the first one but found all the later sequels a bit pointless would make of it? Uh, asking for a friend ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,735 ✭✭✭RocketRaccoon

Spiral was grand, its a Saw movie at the end of the day. You get exactly what you expect from a Saw movie.

If you like all the sequels, it's worth a watch.

Jesus Ep1 is hard to watch. Its like getting pummeled body body head in a boxing match with the odd minute between rounds to get the heart rate down!

Spiral - was grand, no more no less, watchable.

    Irresitible - again, watchable.

As someone who liked Saw II/III and maybe Saw VI (whichever was the health insurance one), Spiral is a gigantic steaming pile of crap. I'd say it's the worst of them all or at least a strong contender.

Promises to be a new spin-off, turns out to be a poor carbon copy of other movies complete with a comically ludicrous twist.

People say things like "sure who watches Saw for the script" but there's a difference between a good script, a passable script, and then "plot points scribbled on the back of a napkin and improvised", which is what Spiral is.

Great show but don't watch if planning or in the process of expecting a baby. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,415 ✭✭✭FullBack Jam

I liked all of the Saw movies. I know they got a bit on the desperate side as the sequels mounted up. But I saw some logic to them anyway.

Spiral was just overwhelming disappointing - for me anyway. Very silly

Yep, probably the weakest of them all. There wasn't enough of the Jigsaw element and the traps that were there seemed to be more just focused on being as disgusting as possible without being clever. Even Samuel L. Jackson didn't seem much bothered with his role.
