It was the most stressed I've been in my life, in years. My heart genuinely felt overtaxed throughout the film. I loved every minute of it.

Oh I would also add: if you watch Uncut Gems, ensure you do so without interruption, or breaks. No tea breaks, toilet breaks or whatnot. The effect of it only works if you're locked in from the start to finish. If the viewer gets a breather, the spell is broken.

There really is some utter rubbish on Netflix...but that new show first kill...has to be right up there!

Netflix are in desperate need of some quality control

Curious as to what exactly drew you to watch it? I took one look at the trailer and knew I was not the intended audience.

It was not my choice believe me!

My other half picked it. Looking at the credits it is from a book by VE Schwab who wrote a book I really liked so kinda surprised it is so so bad.

Some of Netflix's programming can make the CW look like HBO in comparison. At this stage, I just assume most of their US programming is garbage, with occasional pearls like Pieces of Her. Avoids disappointment.

I think Netflix is the most broad reaching streaming service when it comes to target audiences and as such not everything is for everyone. A few of their more recent releases are very clearly aimed at a younger skewing audience, and that audience seems to be liking what they're getting. First Kill is #4 in films and TV this week and seems to be trending on Twitter all the time.

    Stay away from Interceptor

Really enjoyed Hustle yes we've seen it before but a great understated performance from Sandler. It seems he has been a decent investment by Netflix

The Bill Burr presents friends who kill was pretty poor for standup it got the thumbs down from me

Halftime (2022) Global superstar Jennifer Lopez reflects on her multifaceted career and the pressure of life in the spotlight in this intimate documentary.

Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin: Ladies Night Live (2022) Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin host an iconic celebration of women in comedy with stand-up sets from Cristela Alonzo, Margaret Cho, Michelle Buteau and more.

Watched episode 7 of the new series of stranger things last night.

Load of cheesy old shite for me. I've been a fan of the show since the start and always accepted some levels of cheese or daftness but enjoyed the entertainment overall but this latest series is next level serious cheese and some really poorly done stuff at times.

Probably still worth the watch for some entertaining bits but just about worth the watch. 👎

I hadn't even heard of First Kill until it got mentioned above and there is zero chance I'd ever blind watch something on Netflix. In fact, I probably haven't blind watched anything since I was about 12 when I would pick a VHS off the video store shelf based on how eye catching the cover was.

Im a big Bill Burr fan. Wouldn't recommend this special though. Fell very flat. Especially the jokes about gun laws. Watch his old people sketch instead even if you've seen it already.

i really liked his take on the covidiots , i wanted an hour of him, seemed he was only getting going and he was introducing the next comedian . jimmy carr was really bad , jeff ross & dave attell were good as was ian edwards but as a whole it wasn't great

Oh I love Burr but this was poor by his high standards and tried to watch the next comedian that came on and she was crap so gave up after that . Bill is probably saving his good material for his next special

I hated Uncut Gems. And yes I watched the whole thing. I get what they were going for but I just found it stressful and annoying.

Benoit Blanc is back 😁 !!

And another amazing cast: Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke.

It's a gem all right. I'd recommend limbering up first with a film by the same writer/directors, the Safdie brothers, called 'Good Time', also on Netflix. Just to ease you into their tempo with a milder strain of film-making; this way it's like trying out a beast of a machine on the German autobahn in the middle lane, before changing to the fast lane.

Some people hate theme park roller-coasters because of the very experience most people love about them. It's not for everyone, but the skill in harnessing the pressure of that type of self-destructive lifestyle into a pulsating narrative is admirable. Personally, I find roller-coasters boring; Uncut Gems is a much more enjoyable stress medium.

Some movies rely on generating a specific "feel" and I don't think Uncut Gems would have worked half as well if it couldn't accurately transfer that sense of self-destructive plate-spinning of Sandler's main character. The movie truly only worked if the audience absorbed that palpable, constant sense of stress and ramping intensity. Here came another play, only adding two more crises to deal with.

I daresay when people talk about pacing, or escalating stakes you could make a solid argument for Uncut Gems as Best in Class; it's often the action blockbusters that people automatically talk about; but that film had more intensity and nerve-shredding tension - and kept it going - than most conventional thrillers ever manage.

I agree that Uncut Gems is stressful and annoying.

    That’s why I loved it :p

Netflix has announced a reality competition based on "Squid Game", the hit Korean drama which took the world by storm last September.

The series, a biting criticism of the class system and the dangers of capitalism, centres on a group of people who compete in deadly games for the chance to win an enormous cash prize.

So, naturally, this should be translated into a real life competition.

"Squid Game: The Challenge" is in production, with an open call for contestants.

Much like in the series, 456 players will take part in a series of games with the aim to be the last person standing, and win the cash prize of $4.56 million (€4.38 million).

We assume that the competition won't take the same twist the show took and kill off contestants, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

“Squid Game took the world by storm with Director Hwang (Dong-hyuk)’s captivating story and iconic imagery," said Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s VP of unscripted and documentary series.

"We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment.”

“Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end.”

Would love to quiz Netflix executives about whether they understood the central themes of Squid Game. They clearly didn’t, but would be a fun exercise nonetheless.
