Was trying to work out how to set the timer for the Zappi coming straight from the grid without any solar panels and it wasn’t explained very well in the manual.

when you set your time under “Boost timer” you need to set it to Eco ++ at the bottom centre of the screen. This means that, once you plug the charger in it doesn’t start straight away, which it does on “Fast”.

once it’s set like this, the Zappi goes a pink colour and once the timer starts it switches to white. Only drawback I can see is that if you want to charge outside the timer you need to switch from “Evo++” to “Fast”

hope this helps someone and if there's something I missing, please let me know.

thanks for the help on here again

Would it not be easier to use the timer in the car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭markyboy

I did try that however that’s where I couldn’t work out how to set the Zappi. If it’s set to “Fast” as soon as I plug it into the car it starts charging and ignores the timer. There are other lock/unlock instructions on the Zappi but I couldn’t make head nor tail of them.

Just wondering what the wait time on getting grant back is and how do you know what stage you're at. Already had it sent back as one date was missing. Returned it and have heard nothing in over a month. Install in Jan, when letter got back yo us, paperwork was stamped as received Feb 7th, this was sent back a week or two later and have heard nothing since.

    Anyone got any info?

That's annoying alright. I have the timer set on the superb and the led beside the car socket flashes 10 times to indicate it's in timer mode when I plug it in, I don't have any timers set on the EO, there's an override button on the car that I use if I want it to start charging immediately. Strange that the Zappi overrides the car timer. Can you use the car app to put it back in timer mode?

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried various combinations of setting the car timer to start with the Zappi but as soon as I plug in the Zappi it starts charging. I can understand the logic if there are solar panels involved. As it is, it works, but I do have to switch from “Eco++” to “Fast” on the Zappi if I want it to charge outside of the timer hours. That said I don’t have the wifi option which might make it easier than setting it on the actual device.

That would remind you of trying to set a recording on an old Mitsubishi video recorder 🤔, you inevitably ended up recording the shopping channel at 2am...

    Hi folks,

Wondering what my cheapest option is for a dumb charger with load balancing for installation at my folks place? Be nice tbe able to charge overnight the few times we visit

    Cheers,

hey folks - looking at an eo mini pro 2 for installing at my parents.. will only be used maybe ten times a year when we visit. Reading up and it needs a ct clamp for load balancing.. also see pen fault detection required? will be getting a local electrician to fit so hopefully they know the score - does the pen fault detection add much cost?

To be honest , the "cheapest option" by far would be an outdoor socket in the right spot and a spare granny cable left at their house.

For an overnight charge that would be more than enough I'd imagine.

with granny charging its 2 days to fill a 77kw battery? be just handy to 'fill up' overnight if possible.. is there any charger that has load balancing build in? and pent fault etc which is a basic wall socket? i won't mind using my vw supplied cable the odd time its used.. dont need apps or anything like that

    Zappi would have all that.

Hypervolt also, but I dont think it comes untethered.

anything in the 300 euro range that would work and just be a socket? im looking at an eo pro mini 2 on adverts but im thinking it will need the ct clamp for load balancing and also pen fault protection? if there's an earth rod near the installation is pen fault protection required? im not going fitting this myself.. it will be done by an electrician just asking re potential build up costs

If your EV was transferred to their address then you can claim the grant for the install at their house. Once installed, then do a change of address back to yours

    Just saying ……

Is PEN fault required here? Or are you in the UK/NI?

Tesla chargers have no PEN fault but are only €299 on their store.

How often do you think you’d need to charge from 0-100%?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,190 ✭✭✭micks_address

Dublin/Sligo... if its not required that great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,190 ✭✭✭micks_address

A journey to Sligo and trip around will leave me fairly depleted so I'd expect to charge overnight and travel back to Dublin on the Sunday.. drop a few quid at home to cover the cost of electricity

Yet another acronym, what is pen fault?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,031 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

For a bev? No way, granny charging my tiny 13kw battery took 6 hours. It would be like having a breast fed babby trying to charge a proper sized battery.

    Hi folks,

I picked up an eo mini pro 2 from adverts. It's in unused condition. Has cable and safety switch. Two things trying to figure out:

    1) CT clamp to use/source for load balancing. Seems to be place in Dublin selling them. Anywhere else they can be sourced?

    2) installer app configuration. Seems like only registered eo installers can use the app? I'll be getting a local electrician close to my parents house to fit. Will there be issues with configuration? Want to use clamp for load balancing but apart from that nothing extra required. Generally not awesome wifi around the house. Can set up a hotspot if needs be. Do you need to use internet with it?

    Cheers,

    Mick

ok so i talked to EO support - any electrician can install the charger, fit the clamp for load balancing and it should work without any app configuration. You can register as an installer on their site but i doubt our local electrician would be bothered with it. The downside is no app features will work which is fine as im only going to be using it maybe once a month so app integration isnt that important. Re safety isolation switch - are they a requirement for all chargers? one came with the unit so ill use it anyway or rather ill let my electrician fit it

    cheers,

    Mick

Does anyone know how long it takes for grant to be paid? Spoke to them on phone as docs were late being sent which they said was no issue but that was 3 weeks ago and not a peep since?

I've sent all the paperwork mid January. No money yet.

Out of interest, do you get some kind of a notification when the payment is made? or just a case of seeing when it hits your bank account? No money yet here either, submitted start of April.

That seems too long, I would be giving them a call. They were very approachable over the phone, presume they still are.
