No issue with that. I rent out a room, and if I were between jobs (which I am once in a while) and claiming jobseekers (which is my right) I should not have to kick out my lodger

This scheme will just make it more appealing not to work. If you decide not to then you can earn 14k from the free house you get.

So not working means you can become a landlord paid for by the state, without any capital.

This is a great country if your a refugee or welfare recipient. Forgot about it if you want to work hard, thats for sucker's.

I don't think that's what it means at all (at least I hope it doesn't).

Its for those who own houses/are on welfare who own/pay a mortgage on a house

Nowhere has it been mentioned it's only open to homeowners ,so it's Open to all unless we are specifically told by the department that's not the case

Escort website encouraged men to live out 'war-inspired fantasies' by paying for sex with Ukrainian women who have fled the war to Ireland

This doesn't sound desperate at all.

No, this is a sign of strength. This is a sign of robust forethought. This is a sign that all is well. This is a sign to trust in the created future, beyond even next month, no less.

It'll be cargo containers next, stacked 10 a top. Then sheds. Then wardrobes. Then standing space behind the kettle. Then the arse in your trousers, how many people can you accommodate in your hole? Tax rebate of 5 euro per adult that can squeeze into your Japs eye.

Yeah, this country is going places rapidly. Lovely, can't wait to see it by Christmas.

there was a 'significant spike' in the use of online search terms that 'related to buying sex from Ukrainian women.'

The anti-trafficking coordinator said some countries had seen a 600 per cent spike in such search terms

I can just imagine the type of saddo's pumping that into a search engine.

while I agree with you on the type who'd search that - no article on any news site i've seen today actually - shows that any website actually said that - there is no quoted text. seems to be like fabricated nonsense from (surprise surprise ) an NGO type campaigning office.

The media often try the trick of fabricating an issue on a few 4chan/boards/twitter comments and hype it up.

    NGOs do similar.

given more ukrianian women here , it's natural there are more of them in that industry.

Interesting your focus on a particular aspect of the Article, also intriguing those defending what's going on have now focused their attentions elsewhere, on the news SW recepients will now be able to get Rental income up to €14K which covers offering anyone accommodation, not just Ukrainian Refugee's.

Amazing how one Decision has now developed into a number of new SW bashing Threads, despite the decision further window Dressing by Government.

The "services" appear to be cam models not physical meets, so they could be anywhere and probably not even Ukrainian.

    Demand - Supply.

The warning about traffickers is very real though, The Russians being the largest Trafficking Cartel so far.

There was a report of a bus turning up at refugee camps in Poland who would only take young single women. They were turned away, but there is little doubt there will be some human trafficking going on to exploit Ukrainian women under the cover of this humanitarian crisis

Exactly and also there was no reason for any increases in payments this year, or the two extra fuel payments.

Workers got nothing and they increased Fuel twice.

You can argue those would be ok for people who abuse the system to get on things like Disability or Carers(Obv some genuine but a lot on there to avoid engagement) but why was Jobseekers Allowance included when EVERY single business has a sign in the window looking for staff.

There is a job for every single person on JA yet they've had a few increases since Jan while those of us working are yet again given nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,959 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Jobseekers is an absolute fraction of the Social Protection budget.

Also no reason for extra fuel allowance? Really, no reason? 😏

    Anyway off topic.

I tend to agree generally but this Myth about getting fuel allowance is puzzling.

Not all people on a SW payment are entitled to FA. Those on JSB or Illness Benefit are excluded and those on JSA are not entitled to it until being on that payment for 15 months. Not all pensioner's entitled to either and this just to name a few. It's also worth pointing out illness benefit and JSB generally assessed on a person's previous earnings as in they've worked and paid contributions. Finally there's also a large cohort of people on Part time or reduced JSB/A ,required to subsidise lower or reduced incomes and a working family payment ,again because their income below a certain threshold.

Well his comments pretty much drive half the article... - and are incredible unsurprising. A lot of the negative comments on this situation have come from non Irish born who feel they have not been treated equally (in my experience anyway). Any news outlet that goes to MASI for a comment knows exactly what they are getting.

The welfare bashing stuff is wrong, and seems to be based on a misinterpretation of the scheme.

Is the correct answer - There is none

    No.

Suppose it's easier to say welfare bashing because of a general lack of knowledge on the subject.

That’s the thread Gatling already said was in accommodation and property 😐

and that poster wasn’t happy with anyone that was getting the tax relief if you read the first few paragraphs.

Please use this thread in CA to discuss the recent announcement about the extension of tax relief to recipients of SW payments

We really do not need two threads discussing it

That lady being interviewed last night on prime time - representing a child protection org must be living on cloud9/- no, cloud 47 ! - since Feb 24 last. The Ukr lady - IMO - is a hero. Given that there is a war going on- and nobody and no place is safe in Ukr - she did 100% of the right thing. Given the circumstances. - even if she brought 59 minors from Ukr and landed them safely in Mayo without telling anyone, having got their parents permission for evacuation, then what’s the problem?

the child protection lady was all on about not splitting up families, that keeping these children with their families is the best arrangement for these children, etc, etc. what about all the stories about food running out in dark, dank underground bunkers, never knowing when they might be penetrated or a ‘knock’ might come to the door and guess then what the knocker might find - some dead bodies, etc, - and what might then happen? NoW PICTURE if those 59 minors were in that bunker.

the Ukr lady did the minimum expected in informing the Mayo CO. Co. And I understand that food and accommodation was immediately provided for a few weeks until other needed services could be put in place.

the current approach at national level might take a leaf out of the UKR lady’s/ Mayo Co Co book

But families should stay together as much as possible. Why did the parents send the children alone when they had every right to travel too? I can’t make sense of why they would stay. Do those kids feel abandoned?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,353 ✭✭✭airy fairy

The Mayo org decided to play God and move minors without state supervision or without state knowledge. They moved children with medical needs, to a rural county, that may not have suitable treatments or services available.

The absolute neck to assume that the likes of Tusla, dept of FA, Health, housing and local GPs could take on these kids with a click of a finger.

While some kids are genuine orphans, many are probably being used as a fast track for adult members to follow on later.

Regardless of the good intentions of the org in Mayo, these kids were trafficked.

That womans heart might have been in the right place but what she did was completely irresponsible in my opinion. Tusla were not imformed but the Council were ? So who will look after these children , who will bring them to school and who will look after their mental health . Who will feed them and cloth them and tuck them in when they cry in bed ? The hotel owner said one boy was sitting all alone at breakfast ? The hotel owner needs the rooms and she cannot keep the children there so now where will they go ?It was meant well but not fully thought out or organised for very vulnerable children

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,959 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Same reasons other parents sent their kids to the border alone, they either have other dependants, etc or else their work requires them to stay in Ukraine. Also there is nothing to suggest their parents will not follow them out later, getting the children out was the priority

These kids were suspected of having radiation poisoning, that's not something you put on the long finger to treat.

Getting your poisoned children to safety is not a motivation that would confuse most parents TBH.

Also Ukraine is quite a relatively high number of orphans, sadly this is growing daily.

Its not true to say nowhere is safe in Ukraine, all the current fighting is in the east of the country. Efforts should have to setup safe havens in the west of the country that has seen no Russian soldiers. Its hard to believe parents would allow their children to be taken when there is the risk of unscrupulous people taking advantage of the situation to traffic children.

Russia's war in Ukraine has created an opening for exploitation of the country's estimated 100,000 orphans.

It's a chance for traffickers to slip in, find vulnerable children and snatch them up amidst the chaos. It's ugly. It's evil. And it's real.

According to World Vision, "Children are trafficked for purposes such as domestic labor, armed groups, criminal activity and even adoption." Yes, that is correct, "even adoption."

We've all seen it on our news, too—nonprofits and good-hearted people racing to take orphaned and vulnerable children quickly out of the country.

But have we stopped to ask if this rush to act involved long-term solutions for the children’s well-being?

Were they provided proper documents so that they could return to Ukraine or be reunited with siblings? Were they given the option to be relocated to safer areas of Ukraine? What were potential unintended consequences?
