Ha ha true - if it was a Dublin taxi it woud be 400k. Longest car i i've ever owned - nearly 7 years. And to think it was the wife who picked it - a diesel avensis would never have been my first choice. Anyway it's 12 years old now and doesn't owe me anything so when i ever get something newer ill hold onto it and park it up in the garden or do something interesting with it "project car wise"

Today, I broke something on my car. Or rather, it broke itself.

I managed to find one on sale on Micks Garage, I couldn't believe my luck. I shelled out for express delivery to celebrate.

I got it fully aligned today too, it felt like a new car for the quick spin down.

No, the neck snapped on me today on the way home from getting the alignment done.

I thought I was gonna be in for a nightmare trying to source a replacement. Parts can be tricky to find sometimes.

Oh yea I see it now since you mentioned it. That was a bit of bad luck but luckily you have a replacement. Is that a full new radiator job?

Yeah, I was thinking about how I could go about repairing it this evening but for 80 odd squid I just ordered a new one for peace of mind.

I'll pull the old one out tomorrow and hopefully the replacement comes on Saturday.

Talking if radiators i ordered one from Micks garage for a 98 Astra G now i just put Reg in and it came up this radiator will fit your Astra G 1.4 petrol, arrived Wednesday and its bigger, thought might be able to get it to fit but then noticed the lugs at bottom to connect fan wouldn't line up anyway, so have to send it back but will have to pay return postage, suppose i should have measure my one against one on picture on Micks site first ( advice to everyone else). Pitfalls on getting on line local shop would just walk back in with in.

I'm raging, looks like DHL won't deliver my rad until Monday. Express shipping my arse. It's been in their depo since 12 o clock today, I thought they might have delivered it in the morning.

I need to get the car down to my pal's place tomorrow to get the bodywork started.

I'm gonna try and figure something out in the morning.

I should have told you that when you posted about a Saturday delivery yesterday as I knew they would never deliver on Saturday. Are you in Dublin? You should have collected from the Micksgarage warehouse in Ballyfermot.

I didn't know collecting it from Ballyer was an option tbh. I returned something to the warehouse before alight. Shite.

There's another Prelude in the garage beside mine and my pal suggested I swap his rad into mine for a few days but I'm afraid his will just break in the same spot.

Fitted diesel struts and did up the parking brake on the S60. No pictures as I was on a time constraint

Shocks, easy to fit, nothing unusual. The parking brakes, fiddly. I also hadn't realised some moron was at them before, the last time I had trouble fitting them back, completely wrong springs fitted... Also in Volvo's infinite wisdom they decided adjustment of the shoes isn't necessary so use a solid bar with slots for the shoes; you can see it here. Makes setting them up and even fitting the disc back on lots of fun!

Got the new rad put in and she's back up and running again.

I ground off the last bits of rust that were hiding behind it and painted it all back.

It's finally going in on Thursday to get the body work done. I got volunteered to help for two days too.

Fully welded up and ready for filler and paint. I'm over the moon to finally have the new arches in. I learned a lot too.

Replaced the brake pads.

Replaced air filter.

Changed oil & filter.

Replaced oil drain plug with a quick release type.

Then decided to have a go at cleaning up the engine bay.

This is one brand name drain plug: https://ezoildrainvalve.com/index.html but there are other types. I know they are secure but I wouldn't install one in my own car as I'd be constantly thinking it would open and drain the oil at some point on a bumpy road.

It's a solid brass valve that screws into your oil drain instead of the nut.

It has a strong spring loaded lever that has to be pushed up and to the side to release. No chance of accidentally coming loose.

Flip open, wait for oil to drain, flip closed. Job done.

This is it in the open position.

I did something not to my car, but for working on it. Been looking out for a cheap stand/tripod to hold my work light at a height. Plus, I've been looking for a bit of steel tube to extent the handle of my jack as it's very short for reaching in under the diff jacking point. Spotted a clothes rack in Lidl for €15 and an opportunity to kill two birds, with one clothes rack:)

It's worked out better than expected and lots of handy tubing left over too. I got mine in East Wall but they didn't have them in other branches I checked.
