Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Just wondering about how EO positions are filled? If there are a number of eo positions going would the various department managers look at the work experience of the people that passed the interview stage? Lets say there was 1 eo position going in the revenue and the person that came no.2 on the oom after interviews had financial experience and the no.1oom person had none does the vacant position have to go the person with the highest oom?

    Candidates are placed in order of OOM. Whether there is some manipulation of numbers or not, I don't know. I would hope not.

    This was such spot on advice. They actually asked that exact question- I ended up getting placed on the panel, and high up enough for the recruiter to say they would likely be in touch very soon!

    I'm glad you found it to be a nice place to work, hoping the same!

    Definitely does not work like that. You are assigned to the next department that has a vacancy.

    And also, there are many existing Revenue staff with little or no day to day experience dealing with tax or financial issues. Even if you were assigned to Revenue, their HR area will assign you where there is a position - so there is no guarantee at that point that you would end up dealing with taxation issues

    Up to 69 at stage 3vinterviews they said.. So maybe they've interviewed 69.... They would not say how many in a batch... So if its 100 its moving at a good pace... but it could be 69 in a batch for all we know...

    You are most certainly counted as staff, however, you need to have 2 years CS experience before you can apply for the interdepartmental stream.

    I'm in the process of applying for the 2022 EO campaign, but have a question that maybe someone here can answer for me.

    I'm a teacher with a few years experience behind me. Would anyone know if I would start on the first point of the EO salary scale or if there would be potential for negotiation?

    I was OOM 59 Batch 5.1 after interview, and was assigned to the Department Foreign Affairs this morning. I was an existing CO in DFA, so didn't have to go through Garda clearance. Best of luck to everyone in their interviews!

    Hey I sent back all my clearance documents and references on Friday morning to PAS but havent heard anything since. How long has it took you guys to hear back? They haven't contacted my references yet and I don't need Garda vetting as I'm currently a CO. I was OOM 20s in batch 5.1

    Thanks! I think if your department request you and you let PAS know that you'd like to stay in your current department, the likelihood of you being able to stay is very high. However, I think there is never a guarantee. Hoping you get to stay and best of luck!

    Hi everyone, just an update, I submitted my documents-qualifications etc. on Monday just gone and today I received a message on Public Jobs today, that I was being assigned to Revenue (More than likely wont take it now though as I already got an EO position last week through an internal competition in Revenue.

    i gave 6 weeks notice to my previous job and also took an extra week off before I started and they were fine about it, they wanted to get me in as soon as possible (2 weeks after offer) but they understood the circumstances and were very accommodating!

    Reply to post from Onthefence - I joined the civil service in 2019 and retained my salary from the public service role I held which was a semi state organisation funded by two government departments. At the time circular 21/2004 was used and I think if you read that along with circular 08/2019 you will know if your teaching service will count, I wouldn’t agree with the comment that they don’t negotiate especially where prior public service is there.     Thank you very much. I had a look at those circulars alright and they gave me some hope.

    My partner joined local government a few years back from the private sector and was awarded incremental credit up to LS1 so I think negotiation is definitely possible.

    Would a new entrant into the civil service have a reasonable argument for incremental credit if they had a level 9 qualification? I think a level 6 is the minimum required for this EO competition? Thanks

    Simple answer is no. You start on the first increment regardless.

    Hi all,

    I'm looking for some advice.

    Basically I have been promoted to executive officer from a clerical position.

    My new dept wants me to start in 2 weeks however my current department want to delay it.

    They are being very awkward about the whole thing and keep talking about delaying it .

    I would rather go to new dept as I feel the sooner I get on the scale the better for me.

    Can anyone tell me what is the correct period of notice that I must give?

    I was just thinking about that today. The closing date for applications for this campaign June 2nd. Surely there wouldn't be enough time to have a new panel set up by the end of June?

    Well – my interview is over and done and I am delighted that it is!!

    It was fast paced, and I was certainly kept on my toes. I am not sure how I did but did the best I could – I even got tongue twisted and lost my way. I just stopped and they (the interviewers) helped me on the way.

    Hints -

    Clear your mind – completely and have a glass of water. You are expected to talk

    Have at least two examples – for each of the competencies and be prepared to be questioned on how, what and when. I used a 3rd example on Delivery of Results

    I could refer back to previous non-CS experience. I also mentioned that my role had changed since I first applied.

    You will be interrupted – so that you can give clarity and to show you can interact

    Re CS values – what are they?

    Honest, integrity and transparency – remember that we are representing and working for the public – give an example if you can, I mentioned FOIs.

    I think that is it – I hope it helps!

    Sorry to bother you again with questions! How does the HEA fit into the civil service framework role, if at all? I understand it functions as the statutory planning and policy-advisory body for higher education in Ireland. However, is it not a civil service role? I thought it was due to the Executive Officer title, but now I see "Senior Executive Officer" as opposed to the "Higher Executive Officer" (HEO) for many of the staff, with no one having Assistant Principal/Principal Officer titles, but more "Senior Manager/Director" roles.

    I am extremely grateful for having landed the role but I'm more worried about whether or not my time as an EO in the HEA would count on the same salary point scale if I were to ever work in one of the major departments as an EO again. Any insight is highly appreciated! 😀

    I was told it is to close end of June but subject to change. Hopefully that does change. Also, it would be great if people emailed requesting it stay open as surely COVID slowed the process down over the last two years.

    I applied for this comp on maternity leave in 2020 and am currently on maternity leave again and not due back to work until Sept but I'm now being considered for a position and just have to do my pre clearance checks. Anyone know what the story will be with them holding position for me until after my mat leave? And also does anybody know if you can ask for shorter working week off the bat as I'm already a CO and had been approved for this in my current department. Would be such a shame to not be able to take it due to childcare issues.

    They will hold the position for you, in fact you may be entitled to increased pay from the time you would have taken up duty, but I am not sure on that.

    You can use your unpaid Carer's Leave entitlement for a shorter working week if they won't give it off the bat. Once you prove it works with business needs, it will be easier to get long-term.

    I just recently checked this as I may be changing departments. I was told that you can't apply for shorter working week while on probation (regardless of previous service). At a push you might be able to apply for parental leave but this would be unusual. There is unfortunately no obligation on your new department/employer to honour an existing flexible arrangement although you can of course ask. If you aren't changing departments I wouldn't say there'll be an issue though?

    I am in Batch 5.1 OOM 92 for Dublin. I am a CO since may 2020. I sent in my clearance documents on Sunday 15th of may 2022. Has anyone any idea of how long it takes to have clearance? I just want to make sure I am on the list and all documents are ok.
