Don't wave a Russian flag in Georgia

If you zoom in south of Kherson for today's image. You can see equipment on fire. Must be Russian as it's supposed to be held by their forces.

Same east of Izium on the Kharkiv border. Multiple fires.

Both areas are forests, tree cover, national parks.

It's specific spots so looks like tanks, etc on fire over say a forest fire.

Interesting that while the anglosphere and eastern europe are full on in supporting Ukraine, Continental Europe couldnt be making it more clear that they'd really rather just back to business as usual ASAP. Macron wooing the Germans this week comes out with this beauty, comparing Vlads adventure westwards to the 1st world war rather than the second

“While Europe is now helping Ukraine, there will come a point when Moscow and Kyiv will sue for peace and at that point neither side should be humiliated or excluded as happened to Germany in 1918.”

For a start he has a cheek claiming that Europe is helping Ukraine when he and Scholz have done as little as they can to help them, but note the language "Europe is now helping Ukraine" because that's obviously temporary.

I mean Russia will still be there after the war ends; and it will still have a relatively large (but hopefully much diminished) nuclear equipped army. We all need to figure out how to deal with that fact; and it has been clear from the beginning that Macron is intent on keeping diplomatic channels open with Putin and Russia.

I for one don't particularly like the thoughts of having a supercharged North Korea sitting all along Europe's eastern border without at least trying to find some way to avoid it; and if Macron wants to take on that role while still providing weapons and humanitarian aid to Ukraine then let him work away.

It's very much like that in Ireland, having state sponsored tv stations is so wrong, they ignore/refuse to air so many stories, various departments, agriculture, defence etc get to cut anything they don't like out, it's a cosy cartel , the likes of Claire Byrne etc push government agenda relentlessly, yet we think other countries are being brainwashed 🤣

Yeah, I mean it's not like we get any other stations besides RTE

EU chief hails 'progress' made with Hungary for Russian oil embargo

So if you read between the lines - Hungary will still veto the plan, EU must appear stronger together, Hungary want's more off the EU for doing nothing i.e. provide us free fuel and Orban will still continue doing what he wants

EU needs mechanisms to just eject or disbar countries (with a popular vote) from any involvement in EU motions/votes - many organisations now realising having no get out of jail clause has led to Russian interference affecting all critical decisions in world matters

That any one country can have a deciding vote in any vote is quite ludicrous - does that not go against democracy?

Yes. The final drive disconnect will disconnect the final drive from the drive sprocket. Normally done from the outside of the vehicle at the hub of the sprocket, when there is such a thing. Normally the brakes are between the steering/diff and the final drives

Why can't Europan countries embargo Russian oil of their own bat, like normal nations would?

I don't know if you noticed but Russia is North Korea on steroids. The difference is that Germany and France both want to do business with our North Korea. Hardly surprising given their appeasement policies during the cold war. As stupid now as it was then. The idea that Macron is taking on the role of peacemaker is dubious, he has done as little to aid Ukraine while constantly making reassuring noises to Putin. If I was the Americans and Ukrainians I would be sharing as little as possible with Macron for of it making its way back to Putin

It's interesting that people keep making excuses for France and Germany for their behaviour while making no such allowances for Hungary. "The gods do bear and will allow in kings The things which they abhor in rascal routes."

Macron's a knob, a grade A knob. Russia needs to be ostracized completely. These politicians are living in cloud cuckoo land. I'd say it must be frustrating for Biden to hear some of the guff coming from these lads.

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

Some of it is good cop bad cop. It's one of the oldest tricks in the book. Germany is compromised. It'sore Merkel's than Scholz's fault.

At the end of all this there will be a need to negotiate a solution, Biden, Johnson etc will do the bad cop, Macron will do the good cop.

What happened at the end of WW1 caused WW2. Just like the appeasement of Putin in 2014-16 caused this.

When this ends and we are getting to the stage where Putin and Russia will need a settlement the US and the EU know they need a negotiating door to go through

    Slava Ukrainii

Is it not beyond the bounds of possibility that the Russians are not capable of building the following for ITS ANNUAL ARMS CAPABILITY INTERNATIONAL SHOW aka celebrating , annually the WW2 victory over Germany. Build , say, 5 big chassis with multiple big wheels. Fabricate Hugh big and very long cylinders for each and mount on the chassis. Canabalise a few bits and pieces, including cabs from defunct armaments and paint the lot green. So as these monsters pass by we all say WOW, what flower there, I wonder how many more have then - god help the poor UKranians !!!!!

What a waste of tech? Or is it simply, 'hypersonic missiles- got'em' - surely they'd have better/more strategic targets to display them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,246 ✭✭✭✭Dyr

Was it a god cop bad cop routine when France and Germany were appeasing the Soviet Union while the Americans and Brits just focused on collapsing it, leaving the continentals looking very foolish indeed once the Soviets **** themselves and fell over?

I said it before, people will find ways to make excuses for France and Germany. Apparently after getting Russia completely wrong again for two decades they're now suddenly playing master level 3D chess rather than just looking for a way to wiggle Vlad off the hook he caught himself on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,689 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

I think an attempt to intimidate Ukraine is all. "See, we've got these indefensible missiles faster than everything else and can hit you anywhere, anytime." iMO RuSSia is grasping at straws trying to scare Ukraine.

Anybody notice Putins RIGHT arm has started to swing again . His left arm was holding a placard.

It's very easy for the US to adopt megaphone positions on things in Europe, as they are invariably unaffected. France, Germany and others deal in realpolitik. Some people dislike it as an approach and prefer the overt and covert regime changing the US still look to. As the quote goes it's your enemies you have to talk to and there is nothing to be gained by completely isolating him diplomatically. Whatever about questions over their attitude to him they are full square behind sanctions.

On balance over the last few days Ukraine have been making the most gains which is promising. These have been around Kharkiv.

I'd be still be nervous that Russia hasn't been routed from North of Kherson with more reinforcements/meat coming from Crimea. They still very much have their target on landlocking Ukraine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,067 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

Are they really fully behind Sanctions, especially Germany.

We have ex Ministers of Germany, past EU Presidents and an assortment of political leadership from Eastern Europe who would dispute that in the strongest terms.

The realpolitik was that Russian friendship was important for cheap resources, whether Ukraine is a democratic state or a Russian possession is secondary to that.

That's the realpolitik, certainly it appears individual prominent German leadership elements have been long compromised. They have certainly proved their loyalty and the result is that Germany is viewed as having no respect for life or Democracy East of its own border.

That's going to effect EU politics for 20 years. Eastern Europe is not going to trust Berlin or be lectured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,067 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

Berlin is pushing for Serbian EU involvement as it is very close politically to Russia. Scholz may well just have been told to push it, no explanation given.

It wants another friend to help provide cover over vetos sanction busting etc.

That is some serious destruction being inflicted by UAF

And this is happening on more routes ... Russia is never going to win this
