    Senior = absolutely.

But we've had enormous success at underage in recent years.

I would have to agree with a lot of what Tony Considine says here.

I wouldn't say "enormous" success. We reached four AI final in U20 from 2018 to 2021 (won the first two, lost the second two). We won the minor AI in 2021. But before that we hadn't won an U-20 AI since 1998 and hadn't won a minor AI since 2001.

Considering we hadn't won anything underage in over 20 years, getting to 5 finals in 4 years, winning 3 of them would be enormous success in my book.

Didn't think Ian Maguire is available. Hope he's fit, would be a shame if it's one of those where the injury reoccurs after 10 mns

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭Amprodude

Even if we had him fit it wouldn't be still do. I fear for Cork tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,574 ✭✭✭The White Feather

So how long can Cork keep this game competitive? I'd say maybe 10 mins and Kerry pull clear. Then a practice match for them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,194 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Getting stuck into them anyway. Having trouble winning our kickouts and some of our forward play is very slow.

    Cork 0-3 Kerry 0-6 after 18 min

Cork making a change at goalkeeper as Michael Martin is limping and in trouble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,522 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Amazing what a score can do to change the momentum and it’s 0-8 Kerry 0-07 cork 29 minutes gone.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,712 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Cork doing really well to be fair.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,712 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Powter really is such a good player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,522 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

This is ridiculous from Kerry with the fouling and not getting pulled on it by the ref.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,712 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Hurley dancing around the Kerry defence. Seriously late tackle on him, well worthy of a yellow, no free given.

    Poor by the ref.

Only 2 points down at ht, very impressive moments for Cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,522 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

I’d have taken been down by 2 at HT before the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,194 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Kerry know they are in a game now, willing to do whatever is needed.

    Kerry pulling away now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,194 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Kickouts the biggest problem today. Great effort but look tired now, Kerry lead by 7 with 10 to go.

Plenty positives for us for the qualifiers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭thefa

Honest effort from a limited team. Would need 3/4 upgrades from midfield up to compete with the top tier teams. Winning kickouts and chance creation still the biggest issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭Amprodude

We were never winning this but we all knew it. When will Cork beat Kerry again?? we could be waiting decades. We couldn't beat Kerry when we had good teams. We missed our chance in 2020 loosing to Tipperary in Munster final. There won't be any more silverware opportunities again I'm afraid with this Kerry team around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,437 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Its sad when 12 point defeat is seen as ok result.

Cork gaa is down and down for while

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭Amprodude

I agree and home advantage. Cork will take along time before they are good enough to compete with the best again.

Was a far better effort than last year, so progress in that respect anyway. Long way to go alright.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,147 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

We gave it a go we stuck with them for about 50 minutes, but Kerry were very comfortable winners in the end. 10 years since our most recent Munster title, and 10 years since we last beat Kerry in a normal summer championship game. A pathetic and disgraceful state of affairs to be honest.

12 points in 20 minutes in a football game is awful to concede. You would expect a Wicklow or Carlow to do better.

Look I can't fault effort to a degree but we are miles away.

We could go this decade without anything. Things can change quick too but it's hard see it at minute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,147 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

The referee giving everything to Kerry didn't help either to be honest.

TBF that's where football is these days....

    • miles between teams, you're blown out after 10 mns.
    • nothing between the teams, goes to the last few minutes
    • sliding scale then, keeping it competitive for 50 mns seems about where we are with Kerry right now.

Kerry brought on Morna and Geaney at that stage, we've had such a bad 10 years it's only natural we don't have the strength in depth to match that. Looking forward, some bright sparks, O'Mahony looks an excellent player. Need a few more of that 20's team to make the step up over the next few years. Moving it from 21's to 20's means that development will take one year longer that 10 years ago

    Kerry 1-6 Cork 0-3 HT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,194 ✭✭✭zetecescort

caught rotten for the goal, waiting for the ball to come rather than going towards the pass and Kerry intercept.

hard enough to watch too, I'd say we've kicked the ball 4 or 5 times

    1-16 v 0-05 ft

A fairly useless performance. Can't even do the basics right.

Hmm indeed nearly 20 years since Liam McCarthy has been to Leeside. We might win a senior all Ireland in either code before 2030 hopefully!

Very little talk if any at all about the Waterford game here. Waterford will be favourites and our backs will be up against the wall going to Walsh Park, but i'd like to think there is a big performance in us. Whether beating Waterford and Tipp, is enough to keep our season alive is another story entirely though.

    Cork (Munster SHC v Waterford): P Collins; N O’Leary, R Downey, S O’Donoghue; T O’Mahony, C Joyce, M Coleman; D Fitzgibbon, L Meade; R O’Flynn, P Horgan, C Lehane; A Connolly, S Harnedy, S Barrett.

    Subs: G Collins, S O’Leary Hayes, E Downey, E Roche, D Cahalane, T O’Connell, B Roche, C Cahalane, S Kingston, J O’Connor, A Cadogan.

Good to see Connolly start, was about the only positive from the Clare game. Otherwise its hard to see a huge improvement from the same faces in much the same positions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 802 ✭✭✭Rebel1977

    Is Mellerick injured ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,574 ✭✭✭The White Feather

    Yes Mellerick is injured.

I hope to see the Roche twins get game time in this too. It is hard to know what Cork will be like as I was expecting us to come out of the blocks fast against Clare whereas it was like a whimper. Infuriating to watch as they showed they can play but in patches. You cannot give teams an extensive lead like that and expect to win. If we can match them early on we can win this. But go behind, Kingston has shown he cannot change from Plan A. It is weird but I worry even if we win against Waterford then we will collapse against Tipperary. One minute, I think we have turned the corner, the next it is a total misfire. But just as we collapsed against Clare, we can play really well against Waterford next. No consistency at all.

But one game at a time and I hope we don't let the heads drop if things are against us early on. Play with some pride in the Jersey. We are Cork, after all.

Patrick Horgan just needs one point to pass out Joe Canning as the Championships top scorer! So be sure to cheer, wherever you are when he points it! What a great player he is for Cork.

Cork 0-24 Clare 1-18 after extra time in the Munster camogie final.

    Ladies football play Waterford tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭Amprodude

I'm not expecting a Cork performance unfortunately I've seen too much of their non performances in the last 3-4 games. Waterford will win by a healthy 7-8 pts.

I think we'd take a good performance and if we held them to 4 points then that might give us a bit of hope for the future....
