Downey at fullback. Nice to see a change there at any rate.

should match up well to Duggan but not sure what the plan is if Clare put O'Donnell in full forward. I'd imagine Kingston and Barrett will swap too, Barrett better at winning ball out around the middle

o'donnell will probably in the half forward line , hes a great playmaker there is probably too much made of his goal scoring ability but to win a ditry ball a free or set up a score he is better suited out the field

i would be worried about robbie o'flynn on david mcinerney , McInerny shipped something like 1-03 to ger browne last week , a substitute that came on just before half time ,he lacks serious pace and could have a really rough day

i fancy ye to win , there has to be a backlash from the last two games , but if i were a cork supporter i would be slightly worried about the form of one or two on the bench

clare have nothing on the bench bar arron shanagher , but the form of connally and lehane must be a huge worry if someone gets hurt , i also expect ye to convert several of the chances that we coughed up to tipp last week that they didnt take

"A bag of money isn't the reason a Cork player isn't able to compete for and win a dirty ball to save his life."

That's an interesting one. It does raise the question of what the benefit of big funding actually is then. If it allows access to the best people in strength and conditioning, mental preparation, coaching etc. them maybe it is at least part of the reason a Cork player struggles to win a dirty ball.

It's difficult to assume that serious funding is needed to prop up a top inter-County set up, accept that it is justified (which in fairness you didn't say), and then believe it makes no difference in areas of the game which can be worked on and improved. If this is that case surely even a fairly low-level cost-benefit analysis would recommend against this spending? But most of the time I see it referenced anywhere it's complaints or observations that some counties gave an "advantage".

The same question could be asked of the Limerick poster - if Limerick are winning simply because they have the best players then what is the point of all the funding?

Is funding relevant to success at all then?

Not confident at all really. There may be a kick from us but I fear we will still be wide open in defence. What did ye get against Tipp? 3-20 or something.

Team lined up as people wanted but now it seems nothing on the bench..

I’d argue Collins should be dropped for the next game. Put his brother in. Hitting every pass either out of play or to a Clare player

Game almost over and its not even half time. I did think Clare worked well as a team the last day whereas Cork looked fragmented.

Kingston doesn't have the knowledge or skill to change things when Plan A doesn't work

Kingston and co. can go fcuk themselves after today. At least today is the final nail in the coffin for them. No AI medal for Hoggie now anyway that's for certain.

Game now over. A major overhaul needed in Cork hurling. Going nowhere since 2006.

The sooner Kingston and the rest get out the better. We are clearly not going anywhere with them

Bottom of the table after 2 games. Shocking.

    25.06.2022 (Sat)

    Relegation Play-Off (If required*)

Joe McDonagh Cup Winner v 5th Placed Team Munster group

*If Ciarraí win the Joe McDonagh Cup, they shall playoff against the bottom team in the

Munster Championship 'round-robin' at a neutral Munster venue determined by the CCCC.

The good news for Cork is that Antrim and/or Offaly should prevent Kerry from winning the Joe McDonagh Cup. Otherwise Cork could be heading in the direction of an historic Relegation Play-Off!

would seem like Kingston heading for the gallows now for sure

Awful performance. After everything that has been said and written in the last 2 weeks about this team and management that is what they come up with to start the game. Given a lifeline with the red card and we let them score 3 handy points in a row. Sickening.

That entire senior setup needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom before we waste all of the talent that is coming through.

Patrick Horgan has been a great servant and free taker for Cork over the years but I really hope he retires now. Taking a handy point near the end when we needed goals and failing to pass to 2 men who were free outside him shortly before that was infuriating. Clearly more interested in his scoring record than winning a game.

Scoreline flattered us today, Clare around 10pts better if one is to be honest. Our forwards were totally out muscled by the Clare defence. Lacking leadership up front is our major problem. The likes of Robbie O'Flynn and Jack O'connor are tasty hurlers but they'll never take the game by the scruff of the next and win a hard ball for the team. Midfield was annihilated today too, Millerick and Fitzgibbon outplayed, outworked and outfought. All sport can be boiled down to a few basics and we don't have the bottle, tenacity or fight to compete. You have to earn the right to hurl but our players don't seem to recognise that.

People will call for the head of Kingston but it's not him out on the pitch with a hurley. The players are not good enough, don't work hard enough and don't have what it takes to win an all Ireland. The system though is what has failed, our senior hurling championship is very poor and has been for 20 years, barring one brilliant Newtown team. Until that improves we're going nowhere.

Wasting our time playing footballers as hurlers too. Tried it and failed with Aidan Walsh and now can add Damien Cahalane and Mark Keane to that list. We'd be better off as a county if those lads threw their lot in with the football. They've far more to offer to the county playing the big ball.

Things are at a low ebb and I fear Kerry will rub salt in the wounds next weekend.

    Right.. I’m after calming down!

Ger Millerick, Mark Keane, Conor Lehane, Hoggie are just not upto it. Fitzgibbon not good enough today but is better, Coleman isn’t anywhere near where he should be, Tim O Mahony poor, change now or never change in my opinion.

It be over 20 years before we win Hurling Al Ireland now. That sets us back few years.

its not trying and failing. It’s a fail all the time!! Keane is a junior standard player. Walsh was duel all the way but yes he didn’t work. Cahalane was looking for an all Ireland and was there due to name only.

i think it’s time we throw cosh into the wind and promote as many u20’s as possible. At least they’ll be hungry and wanting to win! They’ve the winning mentality

Is it time for Davy to be the next manager? He might get a bit of fire in the belly on the sideline and on the pitch.

Of all the people on this planet, I would pick him last.

    I don't like him.

I cannot see us going outside the county for the next manager, but at least a willingness to look would be a step in the right direction.

Is there a manager in Cork to get this team going?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 34,950 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

There could be, but that would not necessarily mean he would get the job. The politics/buddy system in Cork is legendary. We have a knack of not picking the right person for the job.

It's like man utd for the last few years. Players are just not that good and it doesn't really matter who the manager is when that's the case.

In ansewr to Straight Talker. I opposed the development of Pairc na nGael about thirty years ago, as I felt we had absolutely no need of a 50,000 in Limerick, when there was three other large Stadiums in the Province. Despite the good U21s teams we had for a few years early in the Century, I feel that up until about 2010 Under age in both codes in Limerick was neglected, on account of the debt incurred building a White Elephant of a pitch(after all if KK can do with a capacity of 30,000 in Nowlan, where were we going). It was not of course totally responsible for our long Famine-there were other factors- but it definitely did not help.

Kieran Kingston is a nice man who tries his best, but with regards to tactics and psychical preparation, this management team has been found out, to be badly lacking and badly wanting in that regard. I'd like to see Pat Ryan being given the job, and give him a few years to build a team and get the physical preparation right. I now sadly think, that Cork overachieved in reaching an all Ireland final last year.

The talent is in the county, but we're at least three to four years away from winning an all Ireland at senior level imo. I don't like saying this but it has to be said, our players lack the fight and lack the cutting required to win all Irelands. Cork hurling has gone as soft as a bag of marshmallows. I also worry is politics still a problem at county board level, despite Frank being gone nearly four years now.
