Doesn't v3 also slow down considerably once you get close to 100%? Or is that just my "old" Model S?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,812 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Just the old S, mine was the same, I was pulling 39kW at 90% on a 50kW charger with RWD MIC M3.

Splash and dash folks, splash and dash, can never see myself more than 15minutes at a SuC now, all I need is to get home, don't need to fill to the gills when home charging free (PV)/much cheaper (night rate)

Must have been added today, I was just looking at the map yesterday. Good stuff, no good to me but great to see the expansion.

    SE and NW next please

Wexford, Waterford, Castlebar, Sligo & Derry plus what’s already planned and the country is completely covered.

Maybe Longford, Carlow/Kilkenny as expansion sites…. And we’re sorted.

Will be great for the airport runs, ideal location for many from the country. No worries leaving sentry mode on if going away for a few days...😊

    Big time.

the site is only 5 minutes from the airport and the vast majority of folk going to/from the airport will be passing the Ballymun exit anyway.

Anyone doing airport runs now will be sorted as Sandyford is just too far off the beaten track for most!

I know the site is not announced yet, but do we know where the rumoured spot will be? You mention the Ballymun exit.

    The pin is in Northwood.

But that is subject to change once its finalised.

Thanks. I thought it was looking like that neck of the woods, but could've just been a placeholder for 'North Dublin'

Planning is in for 4 new chargers at Clonshaugh services at M50/M1 interchange, but I believe these are not Tesla related.

the retail park in Northwood would be a decent spot as there’s amenities there

3 cars charging (1 out of order) and two waiting in Mahon point today. First time I have seen a queue there.

I thought Suc never had out of order problems? That’s disappointing to hear given the bank holiday weekend and how new those units are.

Can you see from the car/app how many are available before you arrive (presume so).

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,812 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Yes, you can see if not working and availability of others, I’ve never seen an out of order stall in over two years SuC usage. At least they are V3 chargers so short charge and wait time.

Nothing works perfectly every time, the advantage Tesla have is that single unit failure isn’t a failure of the entire site.

I think one didn't work in Ballacolla for ages too. Which is fine as there is 8

Is everyone in the wrong parking spot there? Cool car though

I see another 42 sites were opened to non Tesla cars in Norway last week (500 more chargers).

I wonder when France will open more - presumably this will be for the summer?

Anyone know when the Tesla Sandyford site is opening. I have driven by several times during construction and

it seems like the chargers have been installed on site for the last 6 weeks but it's not open yet?

How long is a piece of string......

Athenry has been complete too for the best part of 6 months and is yet to be connected. Enfield was similar and then just got connected out of the blue..

It's all down to ESB Networks.

Called into Athenry today to Raheen Woods, a lot of roundabouts :)

Chargers still bagged but they are in the orientation of the bays as mentioned previously for different manufacturers possibly.

“Elon Musk does not provide any timeline of when we can expect the first non-Tesla-friendly Superchargers in the US.

However, he said that this move is the right thing to do, even if it reduces Tesla's competitive advantage of having an exclusive charging network:

"We are trying as best as possible to do the right thing for the advancement of electrification, even if that diminishes our competitive advantage" “

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,812 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

That will not go down well, the US are a lot more kick back than Europeans, class actions etc. There are already constant queues at SuC locations for last few years, I passed by two pre-Covid and both were maxed with queues. There are a lot of free SuC for life cars in the US and they offered free SuC well past 2017 on a few occasions coming up to quarter end on "flash" sales

I can see a lot of those U.S. CCS1 plugs being sabotaged by angry Tesla owners...

My theory on why Tesla might open the network is that it might entice more people to switch to EVs of other brands.

Right now only really early adopters are driving EVs. Many ICE drivers are put off by lack of infrastructure. Having access to the superchargers might lead more to switch.

More EVs on the road means more companies/countries will invest in their own EV charging infrastructure. With more infrastructure even more of the slower adopters will switch to EVs. Tesla might be betting that when these slower adopters switch they can take a significant market share of them. Leading to more sales.

You would be correct in your assumptions. Musk has been publicly saying this more or less for some time now.

"Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy."
