Can be very hard to leave such shíte unchallenged and tempting to pull it to bits. Was going to post a comment in reply to it but maybe better not to bother!

Whatever about Zelenskyy or his mention of Ireland, I do find the constant thirst of some Irish people (like @tooka ) for external validation and rubs on the head + rage they fly into when they don't get enough of it, or get less of it than some others on a list (he said he "never felt so angry or embarassed" [ha]) shameful and yes, embarassing! Particularly as regards this.

Ukraine's president has a bit more on his plate to worry about now. The man listed off EU countries + he praised some more than others. The fact is that Ireland is militarily neutral and it is not helping Ukraine as much as some of the others and so does not deserve a special peon for "oh what great lads we are" vs everyone else in EU. The only country he really shamed or attacked there was Hungary, which is well known to be run by a man that is much too close to Putin.

Why do you feel you need to push your pathetic agenda on here?

Is it because if you tried it in a bar the result would be a swift bunch of fives to the kisser?

    Answers on a postcard please.

It’s now racist and the actions of a troll to ask questions

where do we house them, thats a fair question no one will answer

why should we help them while we do nothing for Yemen, I see no one has answered this question either , selective racism I think we can call that

and given the disgraceful state of our housing, health and education sectors are in we any state to help them

no one will answer rhese they just cry wolf which is in this case is calling people racist

answer the questions with honesty or back off

So basically you made up crap that shows your ignorance and how out of touch you are with the general population. Putin uses similar methods.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,369 ✭✭✭liamtech

Possibly one of the most ignorant posts/threads i have ever seen on boards as a whole, to say nothing of the Politics thread.

A poster who, in previous instances, was very concerned with 'Extreme Right Wing Elements' - now behaves as ultra Right-winger. Clearly the word 'Irony' has no meaning at all.

'No Normal Right Thinking Person' - Its farcical to even attempt to break this down. no 'Sane/rational' person would behave as this poster does.

@tooka - you are now the intellectual equivalent of a loud mouthed disillusion drunk at the bar, who has involved themselves in a conversation that is far above their capability. You are deluding yourself into believing that you have something to offer here. You dont. To say your views are fringe is an understatement, they are the fringe of a fringe.

'Please use your brain' - i would ask you to use yours, but as its clearly warped, this would lead to more vile posting

    • You convince no one at all
    • You merely rally others in responding to your 'points' with the disgust that is warranted
    • You are a disgrace to this thread
    • You disgrace yourself further with every post

Sic semper tyrannis - thus always to Tyrants

You're not asking questions. You're making claims about what the majority of Ireland believe or think. And getting hostile for being asked to put up or shut up. It's a simple request, have the courage of your conviction to back up the claim with proof. Or just admit you're speaking for nobody except yourself. So don't play victim cos you're bold claims are met with scepticism.

And if you bothered reading the news, you'd see the plan includes housing the refugees in hotels, though I'd have to get the sources for that - cos that's how this forum works.

'To say your views are fringe is an understatement, they are the fringe of a fringe.'

That isn't clear. Who knows what the ordinary person thinks about taking in refugees, especially if we are talking about taking in 100-200k. The media is awash with blue and yellow mania and giant flags have been put up everywhere. The media/political consensus in this country tends to tell people what they think, as opposed to asking them what they think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 434 ✭✭tooka

You like others dodge the question

I know people on this housing list and young people trying to buy homes , not one would agree with your bullsh1t

they agree with me, Help your own

you remind me of a work colleague , she told everyone at lunch it is our duty to help Ukrainian refugees by housing them , as many as possible

I said to her , Mary you have a fine house with no children that your parents gave you and at least 40 acres of farm land you could house at least a hundred, how many are you taking? Silence and she was very upset.

but I am right, it’s easy for those who have it all to shout their mouths off

lol, the irony. I asked first: provide some proof of your claim about the majority opinion of Ireland or be big enough to admit you're ranting for nobody except yourself.

And yes, I already did answer your question so did you even read what I posted first?

There was 3 questions and you have answered one by saying they will house them in hotels

this is a complete fantasy stuff, I do not respect your answer because it is something a child would say if asked , simple stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 434 ✭✭tooka

For example Take Tipperary town who took Syrian refugees and these were housed by the council

they are having serious problems integrating these refugees, the Tipperary town people are not happy council houses went to them and there is a lot of friction

the refugees are being bullied and harassed and of course the council have washed their hands of it

this is occurring all over Ireland. The only people who don’t get this are those who are not affected by it , they don’t live in these communities

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

And I asked one very simple question, to which you gave no reply except to deflect, and act defensively about engaging in debate. You huff and puff about respect but if you can't admit to talking beyond your reach, who should respect who?

You asked "where should we house them" and got an answer from the reality of the situation. They're going into hotels, as do many refugees - which would include Yemenese if it came to it. I don't know what other two questions you asked but if it's about Yemen, well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 434 ✭✭tooka

So we will house 200,000 in hotels , that’s the solution

thanks I needed a good laugh

    cheers

Mod note: Tooka, please read the charter again before posting. You are trolling. You are not engaging with what other people say. You are dragging the thread off topic and you are being rude and offensive to other posters. If you keep doing this you will be banned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 434 ✭✭tooka

Just got warned for abuse and trolling

why am I not surprised , it’s easy get me banned then deal with my fair questions

    Where do we house them

why do we not help Yemen who are being exterminated

given the state of our housing health and education sectors , how do we help them given we can’t help our own

answer these questions please , no stupid links to nonsense and no crying racism

just answer or admit you can’t

    end of

Is "peace talks" between Russia and Ukraine delegates still happening?

The more it goes on, the less impressed I am with Ukraine's PM / President, Zelenskiy, he sure likes the media attention, actor comedian, Putin is in a league of his own, the mad ba$tard

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,953 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

I'm more surprised that this didn't happen 10 years ago. Generally energy companies are quite good at futures analysis, you'd think this would have been an obvious development. Suppose the same could be said for chip production mind.

america cannot replace Russia in providing the gas Europe needs

not possible and this is very well known by anyone with any knowledge of the subject

america under trump tried to sell gas to Europe and Europe said no , we don’t trust the Americans to produce gas long term

    this is well known

I'm reading a book about the Russian civil war atm. Apparently inflation peaked with million-rouble notes in 1921-22.

Another parallel I noticed with the present is that the Red forces encircled the Whites in a battle in western Siberia. So encirclement not a wholly new tactic in Russian military history.

These sanctions will force Russia and China closer together economically, something that Henry Kissinger was always at pains to avoid and he tried to take advantage of the Sino-Soviet split to avoid one large unified Eastern power from forming.

It will also force US and Europe closer together.

It makes the path to WWIII clearer.

I'm extremely sceptical of the 'peaceful sanctions', and I guess we have to wait to see how bad food shortages and other supply-side shocks are.

I posted here when the war started that Putin would only take what he knew he could hold he had no interest in taking kiev or west Ukraine

he would use threats of nukes and would only encircle kiev and when he completed his plan for the parts he wanted to keep would retreat

i was laughed at but it is quiet obvious when this over which it will be soon this is what will have happened

there will have been very few Ukrainian and Russian deaths

Closer economically perhaps, but I'd question whether it'd amount to anything resembling equal partners. Russia (and China really) is a much different beast from Kissinger's heyday. The whole world really, and as it stands can't see how any deal with China wouldn't ultimately put Russia as the significantly minor partner in affairs. And with Ukraine, Russia's military prowess has been shown to be ... wanting, somewhat.

Your join date is March 6th? Want to link to your post when the war started (24th Feb) that Putin would only encircle Ukraine?

Few millions died of starvation in Russia during 21-22. Cannibalism and all that. Pretty horrible. Just a collateral of the Bolshevik revolution (military coup really).

And then 10 years later, estimated 3-5 million died in Ukraine famine, which was at least partially (many scholars would say wholly) caused by intentional policies and actions of Stalin. Big part of that was to decimate any sort of nationalist Ukrainian tendencies which Ukrainians always had since the Middle Ages, and increasingly since the 1500s (Cossacks and all that), and russify them.

As for military tactics, they have been the same from the time Muscovy ascended and eventually created the "Russian" Empire. These are Mongol, brutal, inhumane tactics and since the 1700s have never changed - just swarm the enemy with massive numbers without any comprehensive plan or tactics, soldiers without proper equipment or rations or supplies, do all that at the expense of your own massive losses, loot and steal everything, destroy everything, raze it to the the ground, take hostages and move them to deep Asia (Siberia), never respect ceasefire, ignore signs of surrender (just kill them). These are brutal, backward, almost medieval tactics. You need to do more reading on history of Russian regimes...

Russia was never free or individualist country - it's a country of the elites and the serfs. Which is a stark contrast to the Ukrainians who have always been very individualistic, rebel spirit fighting for their own freedom and independence (from Poland, Lithuania, Austria, Hungary, Turkey and Russia).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,492 ✭✭✭McGiver

China is ascending anyway so what's the difference? It was always going to happen.

Russia is no superpower (or power even), it's an economic dwarf with GDP smaller than Italy and about 13% that of EU or China.

China will now make Russia a labour and resource hub, technically it's going to be a Chinese vassal state (quasi colony). Russia mentally and culturally belongs to Asia so this is a natural consequence. We don't want to have anything to do with Russia in our European cultural space, it doesn't belong here, and never did. It always outwardly pretended to be European but never was. It's a despotic backward Asian country which has very little in common with modern European culture and values.

Russia is failing badly at this war and its economy will sink more and more as sanctions hit and propagate through macroeconomic multiplier effects. Inflation will spiral, GDP will drop, living standards will fall. This is going to have permanent effects on Russian economy.

The good thing is that Russia has been shown totally incompetent and expended huge military resources which it won't replenish anytime soon. I'd seriously question its nuclear capabilities.

So in order to 'only take the Donbas' - Putin

    • Landed Paratroops at a Kyiv Airport, and forced them to hold it in vain until they were annihilated
    • Launched a ground offensive toward Kiev, shelled the city, attacked it from the air and using Ballistics.
    • Turned large amounts of units fighting in the east, 'Toward Kiev' - signifying the Russians would attempt an encirclement (Map 1 below)
    • Attacked the southern regions of Ukraine from Crimea (map 2)
    • And you maintain all of this - was so that Putin could take the Donbas? (Map 3)

When you post, are you actually aware of how ridiculous you sound? Or are we witnessing Cognitive Dissonance in action? I just want to understand whether you are fully aware of how foolish you are @tooka - would you care to elaborate on this? Or perhaps explain your 'military analysis'?

Because what you have stated makes as much sense as a someone attacking Cork and Kerry, from multiple directions - in order to 'secure' Louth.
