The problem is that a number of Belarus units have been pictured with new markings of either a red square or red triangle similar to the Russian Z/V markings. It could be just mind-games or purely defensive in nature I suppose; but who knows.

Because a medical doctor has never been a psychopath and/or broken their oaths? Not that you even need to be a psychopath to make threats like that really; honestly seems rather tame as far as the spectrum of nastiness we've seen so far in this conflict goes.

A thing a lot of people seemed to miss in the early days was that the remains of a military vehicle which has been allowed to burn uncontrollably often doesn't contain what people can readily identify as bodies. The bodies are instead charred and shattered bones covered in black ash.

Assuming Russia's figures are accurate I also wonder if if they count the missing or just those confirmed dead?

I don't really get why anyone is surprised to be honest.

Even in the West with all of the widely and freely available sources and resources at their fingertips there are large swathes of people who constantly parrot the same inaccurate talking points about "MSM" and "leftists" and "cancel culture" and "Nazis" and "far-right" and every other bloody thing.

So just imagine what it must be like when your entire country, every social media platform, every pub/workplace/whatever is just full of the same echo-chambers repeating the same crap about Russia and the West. You would actually need to go very far out of your way to find any conflicting view points.

Of course you can automate stuff but will people buy it for that price as automation ain’t cheap. Even if exact process was done in Europe or US the cost of product would be 10-15 times the cost if minimum wage was paid and you had workers willing to work 9-9 6 days a week. Automation would cost more.

Unemployment in US is 3-4% and 6-7% in Europe that is with a population about 1bn working half the hours they do in China where you have the majority of workforce producing good for export out of a population that is 1.5bn and if you include India you can add another 1.3bn….. even with automation you would struggle for workers.

A complete narcissist. His lack of humility would be equally disturbing and bemusing to those of us in the West because we recognise it as an pretext to a particularly pronounced kind of tyranny.

There used to be a show on a channel called NTV that was launched during the Yeltsin years. It was called Puppets and was extremely similar to Spitting Image. It sent up prominent Russian people, including Putin. Shortly after Putin came into power, he had the head of NTV thrown in jail. Supposedly, the show bothered Putin tremendously, especially its parody of him.

Trump is right, how wrong it is for the world to watch on as innocent children, and adults gets slaughtered. History will not look kindly on that.

Trump said he would used fighter jets, give them to Ukraine, but also said he'd use drones to take out russian targets.

Biden is fearful of doing it.

Even a broken clock is correct twice a day, maybe he's on to something with lowering the price of oil ???

Didn't realise he redesigned submarines and nuclear weapons, I'm both shocked and awed

Why am I thinking "Flash Gordon's father, out for the day" ?

The refusal to help ukraine with stopping russian air attacks will reflect v.badly long term on the west imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,924 ✭✭✭ronivek

And we've priced ourselves into a nasty little box too because the cost of living and average wage in many parts of the West is so high that to actually...

    • Find land for a new warehouse/factory.
    • Build the new warehouse/factory.
    • Equip the new warehouse/factory.
    • Bootstrap the workforce for the new warehouse/factory.

... would require vast amounts of capital investment before even a single product rolls of the production line.

It's an awful shame companies were ever allowed to build entirely proprietary devices and actively encouraged to plan for obsolescence whilst discouraging the repair of said products. We may yet come to seriously regret consistently selling to the lowest bidder and rarely if ever considering long-term consequences.

Man seeing the poor elderly people in the Ukraine going about trying to salvage there homes after they ve been shelled is heartbreaking, the Russians and there military are scum it's outrageous we are just letting war crimes happen.

It's only a matter of time for Mariupol unfortunately. It's virtually impossible to be able to defend from the air/sea/land when surrounded on all sides and zero support from outside.

It also seems fairly clear that Mariupol is Russia's #1 priority right now; they want revenge for 2014 and to be able to claim the home-base of the "Nazis" in Ukraine for their adoring citizens.

Every piece of gear Ukraine has they bought, so why the flying fck can't the West continue to sell them the fighter jets they need, forget the word '' give'' sell them the fighter jets, what they do with them is their doing, not supplying them is stupid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,616 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Bottom line the world was a safe place with Trump in power, as you need an edge to prevent war. Same way Putin is using his edge to make the west cowl in fear by using the N word. Trump called bull sh i t on that threat straight away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

Ukraine has been given billions worth of military aid from the US, UK, EU and others. The West is paying out of pocket for this gear, and it's not the Ukrainian government buying it on the tick.

Who cares what Trump says? Anyone can say, "Ah, yeah, I'd do it better." Ex-football managers say it every week as a pundit but it doesn't mean top teams will hire them.

Given Trump's poor handling of the main crisis of his presidency (COVID), and his verbal fellation of Putin (and possible desire to actually fellate him) , and his refusal to unequivocally condemn sh*tty people (Charlotteville/Jan 6th), I can presume with some reason that Trump would have done sweet FA about Russia's invasion of Ukraine. He'd probably have blamed Zelenskyy for provoking Putin. Wouldn't put it past him anyway. He did literally threaten to withhold military aid to Ukraine if he didn't get information on Joe Biden. This is a deeply petty man with no principles and it is profoundly better that he is not in the hotseat at this time.

Putin is known to be a big fan of dogs. With footage of him being presented with various pups by various world leaders, frolicking with his dogs in the snow, and him bringing one of his dogs to a meeting with Angela Merkel, who is apparently terrified of dogs.

This Russian interest website has some of the details.

Maybe like the guy in the video you linked to, it's true that no one likes poor vlad except for the dogs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,616 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

No one moved faster than Trump on covid, but as every country saw no man was ever going to stop it. But that's off topic, would Trump have blamed Zelenskyy, hmm I dunno, maybe, people think differently when they're the ones in charge.

Why are they not going whole hog and providing this air defence for em?

To my eyes,it would be reasonable enough for putin to look upon the assistance and military aid they being providing as no longer being neutral,

They are sleep walking into a scenario similar to what the dutch found emselves at in srebenica....tying emselves in knots for political correctness, looking on at war crimes being committed on innocent people

Fyi, There's been mod warnings about bringing Trump into this thread, it's totally off topic and there are multiple other threads where he is the topic of discussion. Just giving you a heads up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,056 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Apparently he was just some randomer mouthing off - and he's not even part of the Ukrainian military, rather a civilian medic :

"In a statement since: 'has not engaged, is not engaged and does not plan to sterilise Russian invaders, let alone captured Russian soldiers'.

"Our mission is to save lives. The head of PDMS apologizes for his emotions, caused, again, by brutal threats to him and his family,""

If a Russian paper is admitting they have lost 10,000 men in less then a month then their actual losses are probably even higher.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 293 ✭✭strathspey

Also there seems to be claims that there are a number of desertions within the Russian army. Are these being captured as POW's and if so, how is Ukraine managing to look after them. Could they not be sent over the border to a NATO country and be used as bargaining chips?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,231 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

I doubt Putin would care too much about the fate of some deserters

What’s occurring in Mariupol is horrific, the West is standing by and allowing this city be flattened, its citizens murdered at will & even children being targeted. The propaganda machine is in overdrive on both sides. Russia’s actions are horrendous and the West’s response so far hasn’t prevented them from occurring.

However the far right battalion defending Mariupol don’t give me confidence either and I would question their own actions in Mariupol also.

It reminds me of the horrendous atrocities that occurred in Aleppo, which may never recover from what unfolded there.

EU Passport and 10k. They'll flip like Fredo. It would be so much cheaper too.

Marie Curie was Polish, not French. Amazing how many years I maintained an Idea she was French. I did read a history of the discovery of Radium and nowhere did it mention this detail.
