About 70 / 30 in local Tesco today among the public. A fair few people compromising by wearing their mask under the nose or chin.

Only spotted one staff however wearing a mask. I would say after week or two very few people will still be wearing masks.

Went into dunnes and saw the same. Though 50% with staff.

In boots no surprise 100% of people with masks on, I think many customers took them off when leaving (into a shopping centre!)

Woodies similar to Dunnes and Tesco.

    That's al from maskwatch 2022 :)

Great to go into school today and absolutely no mask in sight. Teachers, SNA’s, kids, parents outside. No masks. Everything back to normal in school too, all the bs measures gone by 9am. Much happier atmosphere around the place.

Dropped into Ikea then. About 50-50 masks no masks. Strangely enough, far more under 40-ish wearing them then the older people. Also, pleasantly surprised, barely any staff wearing them. Expected that type of multi national retailer would be the type to try retain mandates.

Not quite in our school. About 50% of the teachers at the gate this morning still had the masks on. A number of parents with masks on and my eldest, who is in 6th class, said around 8 kids in the class of 22 still had the masks on. Her teacher also had the mask on all day.

It was glorious. Still about 1/2% of staff & students wearing them but that's fine, they're entitled to. In a week or two, once those who aren't vulnerable realise the world is not going to end, they will be abandon them also.

It's full normality now. Great stuff.

Yeah I understand it won’t be like my experience everywhere, but at least the choice is there.

Some schools/staff/union reps have been a lot more vociferous on the issue, and I have heard from friends about schools that have told their staff to continue wearing them. Thankfully, we had a principal who’s only advice was, it’s your personal choice.

(the teachers and staff at the gate, I just never got. And still don’t, it’s outside, sure).

In my opinion, the government have very deliberately been quiet and vague on this on the hope that people will just keep wearing them.

And that's fine so long as it's a personal choice.

However, the attitudes from some of the pro-mask folks in the lead up to today is concerning and even now some are still lashing out.

Just back from Aldi, very surprised to see about 80% of people still wearing them. Even felt a bit stupid without mine 😳

I wouldn't - just enjoy it! That balance will shift over the coming days. The Irish are very slow to move against the herd and find safety in conformity, but as more people ditch them so too will these others find themselves not wanting to be left behind either.

    Yes in all situations.

I see some people in the recent comments calling the masks "bs measures" and "It's full normality now. Great stuff."

So Covid is completely gone then? The "7,956 new cases of Covid-19" today is a figment of everyone's imagination. Those in ICU are having a laugh.

There was plenty of muppets who didn't wear a mask when it was mandatory, and would give dogs abuse if you said anything to them. VV######! Whatever about shops, I think mask wearing should have remained mandatory for public transport. We'll see how the numbers go, but they would naturally go down anyway as the weather improves.

You keep fighting the "daily numbers" war. 👍

ICU numbers are plummeting despite "de numbers". I suppose some people will take a while to come around after the fear and doom mongering of the last 2 years.

Both of these reports don't mention the death numbers, why is that.

This month nearly 400 people are reported to have die with/from/etc Covid. While this often relates to past months, but you would expect that the death numbers would have declined in terms of reported numbers.

I was slightly surprised to see about 70% of people in my local supermarket still wearing one. I felt slightly self conscious without one but I'm not sick and it wasn't that busy so I left it in my pocket, felt nice. I think over the next few weeks more and more people will give up wearing them.

    Yes in busy Shops/public transport.

That goes both ways. The anti-mask crowd are just as bad.. hell, just look at many of the opinions posted about mask wearers on this thread. There's a really strange sense of bile attached to this overall situation, as if people are unwilling to accept that wearing or not wearing the mask should be respected as a personal choice.

I've no issue with people who don't wear a mask. It's their choice. As long as they respect others who do, or respect others desire for some distance between them.

None of this costs anyone anything. We can respect each others choices without the scorn and contempt that has been going on for the last few days.

Its hard for the number of deaths to decline much further when the deaths themselves are vastly over stated.

Same with hospital numbers, naturally there will be a certain amount of people admitted to hospital who happen to have covid so the hospital numbers probably won’t decline at the pace we’ve seen before

That's fine, but how does that excuse them not reporting those numbers.

They've also risen, but as I say that's a different argument.

    Yes in all situations.

I attended a veterinary surgery today (sign on door saying mask is required to enter), pharmacy (all staff masked, plexiglass and hand santiser still in place. Just me and one other customer, also masked) and Centra (all staff masked and about 75% of customers) today.

I've no doubt that numbers will drop off as time progresses, but masks are not going to disappear overnight, or completely.

    Yes in busy Shops/public transport.

I find it kinda sad that people are taking pleasure from mocking those still wearing masks, even though it has no effect on them. Plenty of posters above seem to be proud of the fact that they're mocking others too. Why comment? Why label these people when they have no effect on you?

Theres no longer a want or need to report single figure deaths from a mild disease on national tv every day

There are 30,000 deaths a year. Why don’t we broadcast the daily deaths of cancers and heart related diseases every day? These numbers are multiple times more than the over exaggerated covid deaths yet they don’t make daily headline news.

If you want to find the weekly deaths they can be accessed online. Theres no need for it to be broadcasted on national tv

What sort of person wears a mask at 23:59 but never wears one after 00:01?

Supervalu this evening had 75% wearing (about the same for the staff)

Pharmacy next door still had all the mandatory mask signs up with all staff wearing masks. A little old lady at the counter with zero fks given gave me the confidence to go in without mine too.

My mask report for what its worth.

Side note :- Out at two pubs this weekend and no staff wearing and saw 2 punters wearing pp2 masks.

My local filling station this morning 100% still masked (both customers and staff). Then onto Dunnes supermarket 50/50 and ALL staff still masked albeit some with the nose and mouth peeping out.

I stopped wearing mine 2 weeks ago and was never confronted. Felt great being "licenced" today with no mandate.

btw ..... I couldnt give a monkeys whether people are masked or not , just hated being MADE to wear one.
